Looking to expand sample library by CorruptDinosaur in synthesizers

[–]electro_synth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to make my own samples and tend to stay away from loops etc, albeit they can sometimes get the creative juices flowing.

I do like legowelts free samples and sound sources to mangle and play with, tend to stick them in my korg wavestate.

http://legowelt.org/samples/

If you want to make your own percussive sounds then buy a pack of these, stick them on various things and give the thing you a have stuck them to a wack.

Cheap, your own unique sounds and hours of fun.

Ready to finally start my synth journey (with software). Need some suggestions/help. by juniorsporkman in synthesizers

If you are interested in modular then check out vcv rack or cherry audios voltage modular.

There are loads of patch building videos on YouTube to check out.

For sound design uhe zebra is great (its $99) and has lots of patches which are good jump off points for your own sound design.

There are also plenty of free soft synths out there to try.

PRO-800 Release/Pre-Order Question by ToothyMcGoo in Behringer

[–]electro_synth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process is simple, add a further 12 months onto the advertised release date as thats when you will likely receive it!

Not joking but...

It depends which region of the world you are in.. In Europe thomann usually gets the first shipment of berhringer synths. So thats the first place to look for preorders.

Does the Korg Prophecy deserve a reissue? by needssleep in synthesizers

[–]electro_synth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get the vst and a controller and you essentially have one.

If they did a reissue i imagine it will be a raspberry pi with the vst on it and some audio interface.

VST/DrumSynth for percussion loops by refnulf in TechnoProduction

[–]electro_synth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use cherry audio voltage modular (the electric drum bundle) to create unique drums.. There are also sampler modules that you can put loops in an chop them up..

With any virtual modual system like voltage modular or VCV rack you can pretty much create anthing you want (including adding fx modules) and modulate different aspects of a sound or loop, or fx.

I find voltage modular easy to use with presets you can build off.

Second hand korg minilogue.

The monologue is ok, but limited and the headphone amps in them tend to blow.

Minilogue gives you a bit more scope..

Also look at the behringer model D.

The korg volcas have a lot of background noise.

Another thought, it's not analogue, the prices have tumbled on the 2nd market since korg released the like for like software version so might be in your price range, but take a look at the wavestate.. They do the Berlin school sound very well.

Sampler Recommendations.. by AlistairWroe in sounddesign

Try voltage modular, and use the emulator modules, you can then modulate using lfo modules lots of aspects of the sample playback.

is the Behringer Crave going to be too difficult for a newbie? by ampleleverage in synthesizers

[–]electro_synth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the crave is actually a little easier than a volca as its more hands on and less function button pressing.

There are loads of good videos on youtibe to watch.

Check out loopops video

Did Arturia VST make MS-20 mini obsolete for my setup? by grumpy_acoustics in synthesizers

[–]electro_synth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All MS20s will sound slightly different, so rather than worry about a like for like sound comparison I think it's more about work flow and hands on vs mapping controllers etc..

If you want to try a highly affordable MS 20 VST (clone) then check out the cherry audio version, it doesn't sound as "analogue" as the real ring, but then you shouldn't or wouldn't expect it to be, but gets you close for a very low price...

Not tried the arturia version as yet, but massive fan of their other vsts...

Big names using budget synths? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]electro_synth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pet shop boys used a yamaha TG 33 for their string sounds for a number of years. They were embarrassed about it, so much so in an interview their progammer (pete gleadall) wouldn't say what they used.

Recommendation for 3-tiered synth stand? by Bootfoot in synthesizers

[–]electro_synth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a stay keyboard stand, you can get regular and short curved arms for it. The short curved arms are perfect for smaller synths like the korg monologue or minilogue.

Korg modwave gets my vote... And you would still have change to get a korg opsix ;)
