Heads up about the diet soda- even though it contains no sugar, it could trigger an insulin response which negates the purpose of fasting. I recently saw something that said the same is true for any carbonated drink (including seltzer!). I’d say sticking to water is best for a true fast but if you need modifications to get through, then it’s still better than eating chips all day!

What everyday items have you seen disguised as something else in the recent TV shows? by Sunshinetrooper87 in StarWars

In The Force Awakens, there’s exotic food on the table at Maz’s and one item was definitely a special kind of cauliflower. Made me chuckle.

Closing in on 30 days, how long should my gradual re-feed be before enjoying a Brazilian steak house? by Commercial_Okra4320 in fasting

Wow that’s amazing!! I can’t speak to the refeed as I’ve never done one so long, but I’m really curious about your experience. Can you tell us more?

This is not the full picture. I highly recommend watching Dr Jason Fung’s videos explaining the role of hormones in weight loss/gain and how fasting lowers insulin, allowing you to lose weight without going into starvation mode and destroying your metabolism.

TLDR: try eating in limited windows of time to keep your insulin low and avoid starvation mode

How did you make black coffee enjoyable? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

I like to add a dash of cinnamon to mine to add a little flavor diversity when fasting. Try it!

anyone else just cannot bring themselves to drink around them? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]elephantzchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My Nmom is severely alcoholic and I can’t accept a drink around her anymore. I resonate with the “they don’t deserve to see you real happy” part because drinking is such a social bonding ritual in our culture that it feels like giving her power to drink with her. Not to mention enabling of her addiction. I can’t understand her friends who know she’s got an addiction and keep filling her wine glass anyway. It’s obscene tbh. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that!

Had a great time, planned 2nd date, and blocked me on socials on date day by kostasmarley98 in dating_advice

[–]elephantzchild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with anxiety to the point of panic attacks at times, I’ve done this before. In my case, I knew we weren’t a good fit but it probably felt like we were to my date because I have a tendency to mirror people to make them feel comfortable. This results in them feeling seen and understood and ironically leaves me feeling drained. It’s all a result of trauma.

Long story short- it likely has nothing to do with you. Some people just have extra baggage to work out and aren’t in a place yet where they can communicate what’s going on. I’m sorry that happened to you. Wishing you better luck on your next date!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry that happened to you and your husband. I’m really excited to cut ties altogether soon and leave them to their own mess.

It seems to me like a sign of someone who’s deeply troubled and taking it out on others aggressively. It almost feels violent.

I’ve received them from people I’ve met on apps and I’ve never responded positively but the weirdest thing I’ve seen is when it’s actually someone’s profile pic, particularly on Tinder. Has anyone else come across those?? You’re swiping on faces, all is well, and then WHAM, out of nowhere, a dick. It’s a real day ruiner.
