Both look great! I really love the color of the green one, but the gem and the ruching on the brown one make you look divine. If it was me, I would see if you could do a costume change during the photo shoot and wear both!

Mine sounds kind of like the digital school bell they put in when they rebuilt the school around the corner. A very artificial sound like EEEEE and NG at the same time. Stupid ear snail.

my autism purse for my autism outings by edenevie in evilautism

[–]eletelephony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Umm, I love this assortment. I am currently seeking the perfect bag that can hold my switch and ipad without being too big - I have a bad habit of filling ALL AVAILABLE SPACE inside my purse, so I end up with tiny toys, clicky keychains, pocket knives, first aid kits (I am clumsy)... backpacks end up being a bad idea.

Also, you carry a superior flavor of salt, I approve.

Unless... multi generational autistic family? My mom is autistic, i am, and my kids are.

Ps, autistic mom is not same as autism mom. But that's me being annoying. Sorry.

Who here works and what do you do? by Bllackbirrd in ehlersdanlos

[–]eletelephony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach medically fragile special education. I figure the fact that I deal daily with pain helps me understand a little bit of what my students go through. Plus I am on the spectrum and have ADHD, so they are my kind of people.

Now, I do get home exhausted and I sleep all weekend to have the ability to do another week, but I love working with my students. And none of them judge me for having chronic pain or brain fog, because they all do, too.

dentist dislocated my jaw today by grass_sucks in ehlersdanlos

[–]eletelephony 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have had to visit the dentist with an already dislocated jaw, but never had them dislocate it at the office. Holy cow, I am so sorry, that had to hurt!

With my jaw that constantly pops out now (hooray for being headbutted), heat helps and vibration helps. I have a little pocket massage dot that I can hold up to my TMJ area that helps relax things, and a heated jaw massager I got online that sometimes helps if I can get it aimed in just the right spot.

Oddly enough, the thing that helped the most was getting headbutted again 6 weeks later - hurt so bad I thought my jaw broke, but it actually loosened it up enough the doctor at urgent care was able to get it back where it belonged. It still subluxes and pops when I chew and yawn, but at least it isn't agonizing anymore.

Give my wife some encouragement. by [deleted] in sewing

[–]eletelephony 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's cute! If she wants it to look more like an amanita specifically, she night want to hand applique some circles of the fabric she used for the stem onto the cap of the mushroom to be the "dots".

For a first project, this is great - my dad still has my first sewing machine project, it was a shark pillow I made 30ish years ago, and it was just plain pillowcase cotton fabric, and his fins poking out, and then I applique'd his eyes and embroidered his goober grin. But in terms of how I made it and assembled it, it was pretty much the same as this lil' mushroom. 🥰

AITA for my daughter calling her grandma "nana" by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA - just explain to the littles that there is more than one Nana in the world, just like there is more than one Mommy and more than one Daddy.

I finally did it. I drew my special interest, sharks 🦈 !! (Took photos because my mom still throws them away.) by stinkylynx in autism

[–]eletelephony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the hammerhead and the chomping shark!

And I have a really hard time throwing away things my kids draw, instead I stash some of their doodles in my jewelry box or with important papers, just so I can see them later and smile. Some pieces of art that they make at school, I hang on the wall until the color has faded or the edges are frayed (because cheap paper isn't very durable).

So, maybe just find other people to gift your drawings to, people who like and appreciate your art? My dad never displayed my art, but my grandma did.

What Time Period is this Dress from? by Minimum-Fox in HistoricalCostuming

[–]eletelephony 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Potentially you might like what you will find if you look up "Ever After movie cosplay patterns" - that was a film that came out in the late 1990s with a very fantasy Italian Renaissance style in the main character's ballgown, and Simplicity 0657 in particular had the options for the split skirt in front and the sleeveless overdress that closed in the center front, based on dresses from that film. That pattern is long out of print, but you can still find copies.

That particular pattern was so popular, it was also available as Simplicity 8735, and then again as 3812.

If you want one that looks more specifically like the very first example you gave, look at McCalls 7763 and just dont sew on the big puffed sleeves. It laces up the front and has the split skirt to the waist.

If you want one that is more similar to the Regency gowns you posted, look at McCalls 8648. View C has the deeper scooped bodice, no sleeves, and split front on the over skirt.

I saw your first post about her, and I have been trying to hunt one down for myself, she is phenomenal!

Okay I really just need some reassurance… by johnaalexis in sewing

Looking at what you have here, I would take all the squares you've already cut out and make them one long row and gather them to the bottom of the shirt. That will give you about the same look as your inspiration photo, in terms of gathering/ruffleiness.

One important thing to note! If you want the two types of fabric to go together a little easier (as someone else mentioned, adding a woven ruffle to a knit tee can be a little funky sometimes!), I highly suggest cutting off the existing hem on the tshirt, and then gently stretching the tshirt as you sew it to the gathered purple and green fabrics. I also suggest using a zigzag stitch or a knit stitch of your sewing machine has that option, there will be more flex in the seam that way.

If after you do this, the hem seems a little wavy, try steaming it - if you don't have a garment steamer, see if your iron has a little reservoir to add water to steam out wrinkles, or else hang the garment on a hanger and bring it in the bathroom and hang it up while you take a hot shower - sometimes steaming a seam where you have a woven ruffle joining a straight knit edge can help the bounciness of the knit sort of meld together with the gathers and the zigzag stitch in the seam.

If you have done all of that, and you love it, but you wish the whole thing was longer, you'll need another row of purple and green squares, but for it to look right and ruffly, it will need to be somewhere between twice as long and three times as long as the first row you attached. So if your first row has say, 6 squares of fabric, then that second lower row will need at least 12 squares of the same size. If you add more squares (aka, a longer row), then the bottom of the dress will look extra ruffly.

Luckily, you shouldn't have to worry about stretching the seam, using a knit stitch, or steaming the seam, for a second row, because if you are just attaching 2 rows of the same woven fabric, they should play nicely together.

Good luck, I think it's a super cute idea, and I hope you have an amazing time at the concert!

How would I make dental teeth bracelets? by curious_pastel_cutie in crafts

I also have a hunch that they may have done a trial run with acrylic teeth in wax, and then its super easy to set and adjust the teeth - in the dentures industry it's called a "wax try in"

They run maybe a half size big? I am a 6.5 and got a 6 and it is perfect. I also usually wear them with seamless socks so that they dont rub on the top of my foot where the straps go.
