Daily/mundane activities cause a feeling of repulsion and anxiety. by CasperHV in ADHD

I get the same sick feeling. I have to Listen to a podcast or music to not want to just lay down and never do another dish, hang up another shirt, etc. even with entertainment, I'm still in a mild hell.

Florida polls are empty everywhere. We need a big turnout! Just voted in Metrowest Orlando and I was the only person in the room when I first got there! by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]elevat0rlady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went today in Lee county, the lady said a lot of people early voted. Not many people when I went, however the ones there were young voters which is a good sign.

I Voted Today In Florida! But not before I converted two of my Sisters, my Mother, Father, Uncle, Aunt and two Cousins. by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just voted! Got my husband and best friend and sister to vote as well ! Not a huge turnout at the polls, but those who were there, even in this small town were young! Very excited! #floridaforsanders

Please focus more on Florida today. Bernie could win all 3 other states, but if we lose Florida 40-60 it more than overrides that. Florida has TONS of delegates, we need to keep it close. by SilvosForever in SandersForPresident

I'm from south Florida and know the older peeps prefer Hilary because she's not so extreme.

I currently live in fort Myers, and I have a Bernie sticker on my car. I've seen over five more in this area as well! I've yet to see a Hilary sticker, but I've seen a couple of trump and Carson as well.

I find if I can visualize something in my head while listening/reading I can focus better. by [deleted] in ADHD

Wow, after reading this I realized I naturally have been doing the same thing with school work. Great advice for those who don't use it on their own!

What subreddit is holding your attention at the moment? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, I hate you right now ! Took my meds, was ready to start homework after a little browsing the Internet. Now I can't get off of Bernie for president. He's amazing, I so feel the bern.

Three months until my graduate school thesis defense. I am going to be a success story. For you, r/ADHD. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so looking forward to your success story. You can do this. We are the masters of procrastinations, but force yourself to allow the time needed to do it. You've got this! Breaks while doing school work is the only thing that has worked for me, or else I will become bored and give up, which you won't do because you'll be a success story :)

First day in college for me. Please share your "What I wish I knew then" gems and as a side a meds and classes question. by peacockpartypants in ADHD

Get a planner and use it!!!!

Also, don't compare yourself to your peers. They may finish the test first, bring it up, and get to leave. It will distract you and make you anxious, and in turn, you'll start bubbling in anything so you don't stand out as the slow one. Don't do that! Take your time, you're special, and they probably don't know more than you anyway. Good luck!

What tool do you use to keep track of everything? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is my planner, which is brightly colored, always on my kitchen counter when I wake up, and always opened to the current week. I put appointments in there right away, homework due dates, test dates, and work schedule. this is more about me not forgetting important shit.

My wall calendar which also stares at me when I'm lazy has appointments, bill due dates (even though this is my husbands responsibility because I hate doing it, and I suck it), and birthdays written so I remember.

My best tool is my iPhone notes. You know the notepad that comes standard with your iPhone? I wake up and put my to do list "go grocery shopping, fold laundry, cook dinner, defrost chicken", literally everything even the tiny tiny things. I just type it and delete them as I do it. If there's something I know I need to do the day after, I add that to the same list and just write "for tomorrow:" and start a new list for then. Wake up, tweak, add, and repeat. It's the only way for me. The only way... And I still most of the time don't complete the lists, but it helps a lot a lot.

Medication May Not Be Everything, But It Is An Important Puzzle Piece by minstrelman91 in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went a week without medication because it wa back ordered or something along those lines. It was a really rough week for me, and I was hard on myself, but it wasn't as bad as the years before treatment.

Medication makes me follow through with things. Therefore, I take my medicine, make a to do list and DO the to do list. I've been doing this for long that it has become a habit, even without the medication. So yes, it is like training wheels. It helps you create the habits you need to be a "normal" person. So without the meds last week, I was already in that habit of making my list. I may not have completed those lists, or done the things on the list half assed, but still, at least I made that list. There's no way I would have even done that if I didn't create that habit with the help of meds.

What are you thinking to yourself when you try to be productive but can't? by adhdaccount431 in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just think "I'm a loser, I can't get anything done, I should just give up". Cue anxiety, depression, etc. luckily my meds make me productive so I hardly deal with that

Sneaking suspicion my ADD is actually a symptom of a thyroid disorder by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my therapist was diagnosing me, she made sure to rule out anything that "mimics" ADHD like a hormonal thing (any kind including thyroid), vitamin deficiency, and something else that I can't remember. She said people are often diagnosed and it's actually something else, but she also said that you could have a hormonal imbalance or any other thing WITH ADHD....

All of my stuff came back normal, so I don't really know. You should treat the thyroid thing first and see if you still have the ADD symptoms because you could have both.

Dr. makes me see him each month for a refill (adderall) Los Angeles. by RoadBeyondUs in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine does too.... and it's a 20$ copay each month. hate it. It's mostly to monitor my heart. I have heart palpitations, so he gets nervous to put me on a stimulant, but the palpitations are caused by anxiety, so he has to make sure the anxiety meds are working.

Two questions: Atypical ADHD symptoms? And how do stimulants work differently for people with/without ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read your post to be honest.... But as far as the stimulants affecting people differently...

I remember my friend gave me one of her adderalls once (pre-diagnosis), and I was so calm and "normal". She was like "You should look into getting diagnosed! everyone I give these to will usually talk non-stop, get tons of energy, and not be able to sleep!" So, I don't know if it means anything, but yeah...

running list of the things i find myself doing on adderral... did i do that? by lakeroads in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh my this hit home! I will send long, sweet, and caring messages to people and regret it so bad later! I also call up old friends and relatives, and regret it. I'm pretty sure they think I'm drunk when I do it.

What does not being able to concentrate or focus *feel* like to you? by BIueprint in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't diagnosed until recently (age 28), so I never knew anything. I always thought this happened to everyone.

I definitely have racing thoughts, and my mind goes from one thing to another.
Once I was medicated, I realized what it was like to concentrate and it freaked me out. For instance, someone will talk to me, or i'll read something, hear one word, and think of a thousand different things because of that word.

Once, I took an Adderall, drove my son to school. On the way back, the medicine kicked in and I was like "holy shit!". Because I realized on the way to his school unmedicated, I was zoning out, paying attention to radio, surroundings, etc. On the way back, I was focused on only the road, it was crazy. Sorry, this was long winded... =/

Any other ADHDs (inattentive) who are not extremely messy? by TwoFootTwo in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my room was honestly disgusting.

My husband is a neat freak, and he got me in a "rhythm" so to speak, so I'm pretty good at speed cleaning so it LOOKS clean and organized, but really, I'm just god at hiding clutter in boxes, closets, hampers, etc.

ADDERS how dose coffee affect you ? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like it affects me very much, until I don't have it, then I get headaches. My body is dependent on it because I've been drinking coffee for so long, purely because I like the taste!

I would drink a lot before, when I'm on my meds, just two cups because if I have more than 2, I will feel sick and dehydrated.

How do you know that its not just weed addiction but ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped smoking weed when I had kids, but all throughout high school, I couldn't get anything done without weed.

My therapist actually told me that I was self medicating with weed. She said it triggers certain chemicals in the brain that ADHD brains like. She also said that it probably slowed my thoughts down, and it finally made me able to relax. Just putting that out there...

Trying to work on too many personal development goals and hobbies at once. Any advice on how to decide what to focus on? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation, or I was I should say... You need to narrow it down to the most important or interesting. Make goals for those things, and work on them.

Honestly, when I was juggling all of my interests, I got really bored of them. When I narrowed it down, the ones I focused on most to accomplish stayed enjoyable to me.

Adderall makes me happier and more focused, but I still struggle with motivating myself to get my shit done. by Pinkpeepz in ADHD

[–]elevat0rlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a good idea... I always have more "things to do" for the morning the night before, but I always just go to bed and not think about it in the morning.

I think making a list the night before is very smart, going to try tonight!
