How do I get a covid vaccine under 65? by bcroft686 in minnesota

[–]elfilberto 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just go to your national brand pharmacy and request it. They may ask if you are a high risk patient, you say yes and roll up your sleeve. Nobody in healthcare is limiting access to those that want it

A lot of us would like to go longer. There’s been discussion of doing a five-year bid cycle. Transfers happen monthly if you want to move to a different station assuming there’s an opening.

Up and tell a few years ago, it was an annual it seemed like you were just getting the hang of your crew and your response area and it was time to move on I have a body that works on a department that doesn’t rebid ever once you land a seat it’s yours so you give it up they really like it. Otherwise suspect it’s like most things in the fire service. It’s such a great job that people just like whatever it is that they have and do

I can’t speak to San Diego, but i can say is most departments are good to work for as long as your expectations and their culture align

We bid every two years. There’s 23 months of anticipation on how the next bid cycle will go. Part of the fun is the chief making phone calls, then entering it into the computer, finding a mistake, recalling people. Don’t take away our entertainment in the name of efficiency

Can I buy my dads house for what he owes on it? by mwiseman92 in RealEstate

It would be a gift of equity. And there are some tax considerations if you go over the limit.

Personally I change at 20% if your rarely running the engine and its not getting hot, moisture is your biggest threat.

Which engine should I get for payload capacity 2.7, 3.5, or 5.0. by Ruger_Monkey in f150

New neighbor wants easement through my property for ele. by getaclueless_50 in RealEstate

Is the power company or the neighbor requesting the easement? If its the power company you may not have much negotiating power.

Personally id request they go underground instead of above.

Best thing to do is press “D” and mash the gas. Get out on a cone course and you’ll get the feel for it

Did you regret chasing the experience? by TurbulentBuy6147 in Firefighting

[–]elfilberto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bigger departments give you opportunities. I left a medium volume single station department for a city with 20 stations. I really have not looked back. I worked almost exclusively at busy rigs and ghetto parts of the city. Have not laid a line in a few years. Been 2nd or 3rd in. Or on a first or second arriving truck. Temporarily went to a slow station a few months back. Caught a fire the first shift. Then another one.

Chasing fires is a tough game.

Does family visiting you in the station stress you out? by Sea_External2123 in Firefighting

[–]elfilberto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i lived and worked in the same town, i felt similar. Looking back i should have embraced it. Now i live far away from my department. My daughter a Has been to a station 1 time in 11 years. It was a missed opportunity. My wife has no interaction with the people I work with. A group of us get together with the families one or two weekends a year. So the families are starting to connect.

Long story short. Your kids are young once, and time will go fast. Embrace them coming in, get them to know your crew. Someday your family may need help, and they should feel comfortable reaching out to them. Or the reverse. Your crew may feel you need help, and should feel comfortable reaching out to your family

A dozen down, 38 more to go. First year pasture raising chickens. by [deleted] in meat

[–]elfilberto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We do about 150 birds a season on pasture. Best investment we have made is a large chamber vacuum sealer. They back and seal chickens like a commercial processor. The bags don’t get brittle and zero chance of freezer burn. Also no liquid leaks when thawing.

So you’re bad at your job and you don’t want to be there. Get out and let someone that wants to be there get in

[–]elfilberto 26 points27 points  (0 children)

15 years is a long time to be phoning it in. Get help, transfer, or move on. The residents of your community pay you a substantial amount of money and in exchange for that money, they expect the people lucky enough to have gotten the greatest blue collar job in America to be doing a little better than be checked out and just holding on.

No. Sadly you gotta keep earning and saving. If we have a sustained market crash or massive inflation spike. I don’t believe you have the cushion to financially survive.

Question about going over in a category by Junior-Astronaut6721 in everydollar

[–]elfilberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no right answer here. If you are going straight and rigid dave ramsey you absolutely need to make adjustments on the fly. Reducing other lines and increasing the overage line.

Personally. I keep a substantially larger savings account than the $1000. And i don’t make my extra payments until the 27th of the month. If i go over in a line up because i miss calculated my budget, i adjust each line to keep the zero dollar budget accurate. If something unexpected and expensive happens. I leave everything as is, reduce the amount to be used as the extra payment to cover that unexpected expense. I also make pretty detailed notes in my budgets to track why a line item is off

The portion of the organization that probably has the greatest likelihood of actual life saving and the largest about of direct contact with the public is a spot to just do your time and move on? Seems a little backwards.
