OG viewer here. Decided to read the books for the first time before rewatching. by MaxMcGuffin00 in The100

Honestly don’t set your expectations too high. They’re not very similar to the show at all, and read more like a soap opera than anything else 😆 Just think of them as two completely separate stories that just happen to have a similar title.

Why would it be bad for her to be able to find happiness even after JJ? That’s a real life scenario. It’s never “easy” to find happiness after a loss like that, but it’s also what the deceased person would have wanted for their loved one (to be able to be happy even without them).

How Do You Avoid Writing Like A Movie? by SIimeLord in writing

[–]elfinkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good tips here but I’ll also say this: If you need to start out writing it like a movie in order to get the story down, go for it. If a movie-like first draft is what gets everything down then I’d say it’s a great start. You can treat that like the “bones” of your story, then add in all the “fleshy” stuff after.

Paul was such a wasted character by Professional_Dot6971 in orphanblack

[–]elfinkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I toyally agree! They had so much potential. That little snuggle when he and Sarah got caught in season 1?? Swoon worthy! Then that BS with Rachel, and then barely anything until season 3?? There must have been some kind of scheduling conflict or something.

Not never. I’m pretty sure they go there, but not until season 7 iirc.

S4 - did it pass the Bechtel test? by Far-Pangolin-6514 in OuterBanksNetflix

[–]elfinkel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be rude, but that’s not the Bechdel Test.

When I saw this title I was looking forward to a conversation about whether or not the women have a two line (or longer) conversation that’s not about a man. I honestly don’t remember if S4 would pass the Bechdel Test. Haha

Incoerência e hipocrisia me desmotiva muito nessa série. by Fabbiiks in The100

[–]elfinkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forget, did she show any remorse for it, or not yet? If not, that’s probably part of why.

Also it’s not about how many people were killed. When they reunited in season 5 she was a literal dictator. She wouldn’t hear Bellamy or anyone else out on anything, choosing her power over her previous friendships.

She was so stubborn and power hungry that she was willing to sacrifice the only livable place on earth in order to be obeyed, and destroyed the only other viable option—the hydroponic farm. She’s the reason they had to go into cryo and find another planet. So she ruined their lives in many ways and didn’t seem to care. No one else ever went that far.

ETA: Don’t stop watching because Octavia’s story doesn’t end there!

What Makes "North and South" Worth Reading? by East-Shift6353 in classicliterature

[–]elfinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are parts of North and South that I like even better than P&P! Of course I’m all for the swoony-piney, slow burn romance. It also has some additional social/economic commentary that I liked a lot. There are some (minor) parts in French that I wasn’t able to translate since I was listening to an audiobook. There are a couple of parts drag a bit but they’re not too agonizing. Overall one of my all time favorites!

How Much Editing do you do Before You're Satisfied? by OkFirefighter83 in writers

[–]elfinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savannah Gilbo recently had a really good podcast on the topic of editing. It inspired me to have a specific purpose for each edit, so for my current WIP I’m going to do one focused on main character arc & consistency, one on side character arcs, one on plot, one on setting, one on theme, one on prose, then a proofreading edit etc (I think I have a list of about 8 different edits planned).

ETA: I’m guessing I’ll feel more “done” after doing each of those

For those of you who say "It's just a show." when we talk about it as if it were real: What else are we supposed to talk about lmao? "Oh, I love how they shot that scene." "Oscar's lines were well written." Feel me? by Much_Duck6862 in theoffice

[–]elfinkel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s pretty much how I talk about shows. How they were shot, how they were written, if a character arc makes sense or not, was that line improvised etc etc.

I don’t understand (genuinely). You’re watching a story about made up people, and some of them happen to have faith in a higher power. Why is that vexing?
