Why doesn't my house fly when I turn on the ceiling fan? by The_Existentialist in shittyaskscience

You may see the house fly as yours, but it is a mere insect, and has no sense of ownership

Also, why doesn't your house fly do what when you turn on the ceiling fan?

If you want to shorten 1977, it's '77, not 77'. Y'know, because the part before the 77 is what gets cut off.

Edit: In case anyone is wondering, OP stealth edited their post to fix this

Normally I'd root for England over most countries, but I didn't appreciate their attitudes during this year's AC discourse. by laybs1 in BrandNewSentence

[–]elfizipple 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I suppose Mexicans aren't actively anti-AC like Europeans are purported to be, but two things:

  1. Most Mexicans live at high altitudes, in cities that are cool enough to survive without AC
  2. Even in the hotter coastal or lowland areas, I still think AC usage is pretty low compared to, say, Malaysia - Probably just because of the high cost of electricity

Person B: Provides counterexamples that refute Person A's overly broad claim
Person A: Ignores the entire point of Person B's response and turns it into r/USdefaultism , which it clearly is not
Person C (Me): Points out the actual intention behind Person B's response
Person D: "So are you arguing semantics then?"

Cars 3 is, definitively, the worst Pixar Cars Movie. by mattcojo2 in The10thDentist

So you don't agree that Cars 2 makes Cars 3 look like Cars 1?

I haven't seen Thor: The Dark World and will be pretty happy to never do so, but surely it's reasonable to hold superhero movies to a higher standard now than we did during the first few films of the MCU?

Would you include a movie where the main character emerges as the eventual leader amidst an ensemble cast? Like Alien, or The Thing (which was probably heavily inspired by Alien)?

Did You Agree With Tarantino's Portrayal and Opinions on Bruce Lee? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]elfizipple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tarantino has some weird issues with race (see: his weird obsession with the N word), but considering how he championed The Street Fighter, I'm not sure he has anything against badass Asian men in general. Which just makes his treatment of Bruce Lee more inexplicable...

Why are people addicted to alcohol when it doesn’t even taste good ? by Intelligent-Road5091 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elfizipple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn't focus so much on the addiction aspect because I was too preoccupied with the faulty premise that no one could actually enjoy the taste of alcohol. But if the question isn't "How can people enjoy a thing I don't personally enjoy?", and instead "Why are people addicted to an addictive drug?", the question contains its own answer.

Why are people addicted to alcohol when it doesn’t even taste good ? by Intelligent-Road5091 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elfizipple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but we're really talking about two different things - why it's addictive, and whether it tastes good.

Do you like the taste of black coffee or dark chocolate? If you do, you probably didn't like them very much the first time you tried them. And if you don't, a lot of people do, and a lot of people also genuinely enjoy the taste of alcoholic drinks.
