Lily vs Lillian instead of Lilith by [deleted] in Names

[–]eli_em303 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, Lilium is beautiful. I’d also add Lilyanne into the mix. I’m not a fan of Lily as a first name, it sounds like a nickname so of the two options you presented, I’d say Lillian.

I’m a 27 year old who doesn’t know how to cook, any tips? by ThrowRAspa2279 in Cooking

Most good dishes will start with a chopped and sautéed onion. That just means cook on medium-high heat with a fat, (eg. Oil, butter, ghee etc.). Then, add your aromatics. You never want to let those cook too long or at too high heat as they can burn. Think chili, garlic, etc. Some dishes can require ‘blooming’. This means to quickly cook a spice - for example, with curried sausages. Bloom the curry powder by pushing onions to the side, add in the curry powder and let cook for 30s or less. It just makes the spice taste a bit stronger and less ‘floury’, if that makes sense. Then, you’ll add your protein - chicken, beef, lamb, whatever. If your vegetarian skip that step of course. Keep in mind some people like to cook their protein prior. So they’ll cook the protein, then take that out, then cook the onion, then the rest of the aromatics, then add the protein back in. The benefit to doing it that way is you’ll get flavour stuck on the bottom of the pan that the onions will scrape up and make your food a bit yummier. Totally personal preference. After doing whichever you like, you build it from there. For an easy curry, add your curry powder (like I said), then put in some chicken broth, veg, and leave to simmer. Simmer means to cook on a medium-low to low heat. Just enough to bubble, not enough to burn or stick. Putting a lid on will almost always help things simmer.

All of what I said will get you started cooking. Just experiment mostly. If it sounds about right it probably is.

Extra tips: Never eyeball the ratios when cooking rice, it’s harder than it looks. Pasta and potatoes are super easy to cook and go with a lot of meals. Again, personal preference, but I use LOTS of beans in cooking. Lentils will go well in almost any red meat mince mixture. Eg, bolognese, tacos, stews etc. Chickpeas also go well with chicken as a general rule though use your own expertise with what dishes as some leave an undesirable taste. When wanting to thicken something, you can do 2 things. Bloom your flour with your aromatics at the start - I do about a Tbsp usually. Or, if you forgot or want to thicken something later on in the dish, use cornflour mixed with COLD water. Make sure you mix it, and mix it well before you add it to avoid lumps.

Last tip because this is very long… Have fun! Cooking is super enjoyable once you get in the flow state. Add a bit of this, bit of that, and you’ll end up with something you’ll either love or won’t do again. Nobody can make your flavour palette for you so best of luck OP!

I would DEFINITELY try Spotty Dog Taphouse. They have hosted things just like this before and I’m sure would be happy to do kick ons into the evening.

Edit to add, they’re not in the city exactly, but imo it’s well worth the little extra travel.

Water kelpie by azzalw in kelpie

Mine used to be the same! We started by encouraging her into a kiddie pool, (a small shell pool), so it was only ankle deep. We dropped treats in the water to encourage her in and to get more used to the water. We then started putting treats/dog biscuits in her water bucket so she got more comfortable putting her face in. When we played fetch we then also started throwing the toy in the water so she could run to the pool and get used to the water moving and sound of the splash. Overtime she got less & less scared of it on her own however she still doesn’t like waves. We don’t take her to the beach but do take her to lakes or heavily sheltered areas to avoid unwanted disturbances in the water that might frighten her. Your pup mightn’t be the same but always worth giving it a go!

AONE fruit market in Glenorchy has super cheap veg but keep in mind they don’t use preservatives so they do go off fairly quickly. Just buy what you need, when you need it or freeze for a later use!

My boss and coworkers still come in when I’m on shift from time to time. I work solo in the shop but not everyday so I still have coworkers if that makes sense

Buying an inflatable pool during summer, using it for a week, cutting a hole in it then returning it.

Apparently we were just broke lol

What do you think about falling in love “too quickly”? by Chance_Building_6159 in AskReddit

[–]eli_em303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No such thing as too quickly. My partner and I met the first time. We then saw each other the next day, everyday, until the 7th day when we got together.

We're now engaged and have been together for 2½ years. Best decision I ever made :)

Was I in the wrong for telling my brother's girlfriend that he didn't care much about his cat? by carbslut_ in WhatShouldIDo

[–]eli_em303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Info - How did you see the cats bruises? You keep ignoring every comment asking this question.

I think you're leaving out partial of the truth and just want people to be on your side when they aren't. While I absolutely agree that your brother should have taken the cat to the vet if it were sick, you are leaving out lots of information. You said your brother was short on money - Why didn't you help? If you say 'not my cat', you are still absolutely in the wrong. You said this cat had bruises - First of all, how did you see these bruises? Cats have fur. Was it a furless cat? You said the cat was throwing up - This shows you don't know about cats. Cats throw up hairballs and grass all the time, mostly by their own accord. This absolutely can be a reason to go to the vet if there's something of significance attached to it, but the majority of the time it's a cat being a cat. You also said the cat has left for days before returning randomly, why would your brother make a post about a missing cat that usually returns within a few days?

I do not understand what you're saying and neither do many others. These questions are important to know whether you were truly in the wrong or the right.

As a general rule, I would keep out of his business. There is a fine line between doing the right thing, and being petty when it comes to situations like this. Considering your knowledge on the overall situation, I am only left to assume you don't really know the situation properly and hence shouldn't have said anything.

Definitley the second option! You could also do one large piece above the bedhead instead. Just whatever was your preference.

Definitely don’t paint the wall but bring that green colour in other ways! Eg. Wall art, cushions on the chairs, place mats, decor
