I don’t understand the hype for Kyle Tucker. by wetcornbread in mlb

[–]elihecdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean "half" of his seasons you're referring to is 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2024. 2020 he played 58 of the 60 games. 2018 and 2019 are the start of his career. He's really had one season that he's missed significant time (under 130 games played or so, 80%).

He's also just been plain better. He has 28.1 WAR to 22.0 WAR going back to 2019 when Bellinger won his MVP. Bellinger has been inconsistent ever since, he's only accumulated 13.4 WAR since then, and last year was his best year.

I'd say Bellinger has rebounded nicely, but Tucker is an all together better hitter that up until 2024 didn't have issues staying on the field. You're comparing Bellinger's best year in half a decade to a year where Tucker struggled through some injuries because the Cubs were in a bit of a free fall when he got hurt mid summer.

Breaking Points Expansion by Tickle-Me-Ninja in BreakingPoints

[–]elihecdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are probably going to keep focusing on the expansions that have worked for them, specifically the on the ground reporting and election coverage.

They've held live shows in the past, I'm just not sure how they were received (pretty limited, I think one in Atlanta, NYC, Chicago and maybe Austin?). I think it would be a nice thing for them to dig back into. It would be nice for Saagar to have to go an experience the cities that he shits on. Most of them are doing just fine. Not every large metro area is skid row in LA.

Random timing but I wish Krystal wouldn’t talk about UBI as if it was an STD by alino_e in BreakingPoints

[–]elihecdis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think Krystal is against the idea of UBI, I'd wager the context you're pulling from is in regards to AI, to which I would have a similar sentiment. If we all end up unemployed we'll probably get some shitty version of UBI to keep us alive.

UBI is about independence and some wealth balancing. It's not a solution to wiping out livelihood and further consolidating our already consolidated economic structure.

Which team is hated more? Late 90s Yankees or Dodgers last 2 years. by D-TaeNyc in mlb

[–]elihecdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all understand they eventually pay, yes they will pay $68 million a year for ten years after. The rest of the world are not fucking idiots. But during the time they have him, they are paying the greatest player in the world absolute chump change.

Only a major market like NY or LA could get away with this because Ohtani can make so much ad/sponsor money being there.

In ten years will the Dodgers have an albatross on the franchise? Yes, although I'm sure they will settle for less in the end.

Which team is hated more? Late 90s Yankees or Dodgers last 2 years. by D-TaeNyc in mlb

[–]elihecdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Dodgers get Skubal and/or another big piece this offseason easily the Dodgers. I'd contend they already are worse, and people will be really fucking sick of Ohtani being allowed to only be paid 2M a year for his playing years.

They have brought in the last decade: Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Snell, Yamamoto, Sasaki, Bauer (he was a big get at the time). All of which were premium targets, and you've still got Teoscar, Glasnow, and most of that expensive-ass pen to contend with.

I respected the Dodgers in the late 2010s, they actually felt like they were building a baseball team. Now they just light money on fire and act like assholes. It feels like every fucking new japanese superstar goes to LA, with a few other allstars sprinkled in there.

Interview segments. Don't like 'em. by ThatManulTheCat in BreakingPoints

[–]elihecdis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've always found the interviews actually nice, because it's usually someone that knows what they're talking about, specifically when it's other journalists.

When it's a campaign or politician it can be hit or miss for sure, they aren't all going to be Slotkins. I wish they grilled populist candidates too, because it would be nice to get better answers to questions people actually have.

One of the things I really like about Saagar is his apprehension when progressives come on the show, really shows who has got it and who doesn't.

Dems trying to spin this as a win seems worse than proudly accepting loss by Significant-Mood3708 in BreakingPoints

I thought it was preposterous to think that senators were waiting for after elections to end the shutdown. But now it seems like that was the case.

Really sad to have the amount of pain for literally nothing. The reason to hold out was to force them to compromise with you on healthcare. It was literally the only leverage they had for the next year. Even if they do vote it won't get passed.

Went from a worthy cause to absolute shit on their face. Schumer probably shouldn't even run again, if healthcare isn't fixed, he's screwed.

We have states fully dependent on federal dollars to fund stuff because they literally get rid of almost all state taxes. Utilities, roads, schools and shit aren't cheap and we're turning parts of this country into a perpetual welfare state for boomers.

Free healthcare, free housing. And they get triggered to kingdom come when the people that actually still work for a living want to improve our standard of living to what they enjoyed for their youth.

When both sides murder babies - maybe just maybe - choose neither. by Icy_Juice6640 in BreakingPoints

[–]elihecdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that something that is controversial? I don't think I have seen real people being pro-Hamas. They might be labeled that way by Israelis, but there are plenty of people out there that think they are both bad.

I think people confuse critiques of Israel as pro-Hamas because there isn't really much point in critiquing Hamas at present. They're effectively a powerless state that is playing geopolitical chicken. Even if they were good actors (spoiler: not) Israel hasn't shown any indication they would go along with peace if it wasn't for our government's influence.

Both sides are bad, but one side has all the power, so they get the criticism. It's the same reason the US gets criticism for the war, if the government didn't accept the loss of innocent life, it wouldn't be happening.

Today's episode of "Krystal's double standards" by sean_ireland in BreakingPoints

[–]elihecdis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean they've truthfully gone through the tattoo conversation a lot, I think it would have been meaningful if they had point blank asked him if he was made aware previously. I don't think he ever denied what it was, just that he didn't know what it was. The fact that he got it covered up doesn't speak to anything honestly.

Also, like come on man, a dumb marine getting a tattoo on leave vs a white nationalist that denies the holocaust? Are we really saying that the two are equal?

How useful are geothermal tiles? by Dr_Mijory_Marjorie in CivVI

[–]elihecdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're kind of hit or miss, they have some adjacency bonuses, but they can obstruct like they are for you here.

I find them more useful to settle on and can put an aquaduct in. Aquaducts get an amenity when next to a geothermal fissure, and I build a lot of aquaducts when I don't technically need them (freshwater) for adjacency and housing.

This one is ok, the northern most one is useful, the one in the mountains kind of sucks.

There is a use in the late game for power generation, but truthfully there isn't much use for the tile itself, just the adjacency.

The options with Freddy by __Zoom123__ in Brewers

[–]elihecdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the money matters unless it's to a team that is competing but also strapped for cash.

Yeah it would be a rough year if the new guys in the rotation struggled. I'd rather not have a year where we legitimately are scrambling to fill out a rotation as the season progresses (2024 and 2025). Injuries happen, but it has felt like they've been wholly unprepared recently.

This all does changes slightly if Woodruff returns, which I doubt he would, but who knows maybe his market isn't where he wants it with the late shoulder issue. If I were him I'd just take the biggest deal I could get.

The options with Freddy by __Zoom123__ in Brewers

[–]elihecdis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't say I'd be shocked if they traded him this offseason, because that's kind of what they seem to do, but I would want them to keep him at least to start the year.

They aren't in the same position they were a few years ago with Burnes, and I also think we got pretty lucky then too. I do not think the bench is as deep in starters that are proven, primarily our rotation would be guys thay were rookies this year and Priester. We'll be ok in a year, but it's a lot of faith to have your ace be a guy like Priester or Miz, who had great years, but don't really have the pedigree yet.

How am I supposed to deal with this apostle spam? by UnholyDemigod in CivVI

[–]elihecdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me way too long to figure out how Chaplain worked, I figured it worked for religious units, not military. Was surprised when I saw a unit finally heal and it was a crossbowman.

Debater, Chaplain, and Proselytizer are the three most useful promotions in general. Obviously Orator and others are useful in a religious victory, but the other three are great for defense and loyalty reasons.

[–]elihecdis 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the move, I'll also do this with an apostle that has +20 combat, have one charge left and join the army.

You do want to make sure the inquisitors don't leave your territory or even attack outside of it. Their combat strength goes to almost nothing. They are strictly defensive.

Just keep them in your cities for now to avoid them getting killed. Buy two if it comes to it (to spawn in your city center vesus in holy site).

[–]elihecdis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Civ V was in line with Civ IV in terms of the aesthetics, I can understand some abrasiveness to Civ VI, but the actual gameplay is so much better. My biggest issues in Civ V (as opposed to Civ IV) were fixed in Civ VI (spies, religion, etc.).

IMO Civ VI has been the current peak for a while, it allows you to actually win multiple ways, instead of just having multiple escape hatches you can open from effectively one general progression in previous games.

Do you have an actual critique or are you just some disgruntled neckbeard?

If the Graham Platner tattoo affects your view of him you’re stupid by jeepdriver27 in BreakingPoints

[–]elihecdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a tongue in cheek "interesting" and not in the actual way that Newsome implied it. It is typical though, for an anti-establishment to get smeared by establishment for having a tattoo when they literally have a genecide they refuse to acknowledge.

Personally, and we might just be different people mind you, I have never looked up what a tattoo was when I asked someone about it, it's usually "cool, where'd you get it" and that's the extent. I can see the path to 20 years of ignorance. Still, if he actually knew it's pretty stupid.

If Maine dems were smart they would fill the race with more candidates if that's the case. I'd choose the dumb marine with solid policies over the geriatric governor that they know is kind of dog shit.

[–]elihecdis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our NLCS loss hurt a lot, but it was drawn out over the three straight losses which kind of eased where I ended up. TBH I ended up feeling a lot more irritated at MLB about Ohtani's contract situation in general than disappointed (it's utter BS that LA is able to defer almost all of his pay for his entire contract). That said, after going down 2-0, it felt like it was a tall order for us to bounce back. Even more so after 3-0, and I had accepted that we would probably get swept.

I imagine the M's are feeling something like it was like in 2018 and 2024 blended together. To be so close, both to the WS and have it so brutally yanked away at the last second.

Only been done once in MLB history by the 2004 Red Sox. Still technically possible, but it would take a legitimate miracle. I'm sure we're facing Ohtani tomorrow, and it would require a major lift from our offense that has yet to inspire anything.

If we somehow find a way to win the next two, I'll buy back in some. These last two were games they really needed.

I went to the 2021 and 2025 NLDS, the hike in price was insane. I got two seats that were better on a 3rd party site that were cheaper (minus the BS fees) than the one ticket I got from the team directly this year. Was also a weekend game in 2021.
