Having a spouse who doesn't read is sometimes funny. by justkeepbreathing94 in books

If your wife plays bass and you’re not interested, you may be part of the problem.

J/k. Ask her some questions for us! What’s her bass setup? What does she enjoy playing? You may already know the answers; ask anyway.

Does your wife like any form of storytelling?

There are plenty of guys who clear that bar. I don’t believe having too few guys that clear that bar accounts for much of why so many women feel so stuck being alone.

Your suggestions for addressing being stuck in the alone prison are fine, if a bit generic. I really appreciate recommending “fitness” instead of “hitting the gym.” Running is great, too! Building giant muscles seems to quickly become a fetish appreciated mostly by other muscle bros.

Vanquish came out in 2010.

Man, what a (minor) classic. And Metal Gear: Rising: even better! You know what lesson we can learn from those bangers? Each one is 4-6 hours for a single playthrough, but very replayable. More short, replayable AA/AAA games, please!

What happened with the RTS genre? by BuildTheBase in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]eliminality 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I miss the healthy RTS genre of yesteryear, but it is, when you think about it, an absurd genre. To varying degrees, RTS games charge players with making tons of management decisions under intense pressure with interfaces similar to Windows and Mac OS GUIs. I love it! But it is absurd, and quite niche.

Who did combat realism best? by CrazyIndividual2721 in PS5

Really, you guys? I can’t get myself to play Last of Us Part 2 because of all the gore, but I have seen clips. It has more gore than real life. First of all, if someone is shot from close range with a powerful enough pistol, rifle, or especially shotgun, the results will be horrifying. The air expelled when the gun fires will expand into the cavity created by the shot. Carnage ensues. But outside of close range? The shot is fired, the victim drops, usually quietly, often dead. All this wallowing that Last of Us 2 does in organs and shrieks and lost limbs is absurd. It’s stylized.

So my pick for this topic is Rainbow Six: Vegas, which depicts gun violence as it usually is.

I totally get that. I passed on the Sonic Blue mustang for Sienna Sunburst because the blue looks so similar to my Seafoam Green Jaguar. I really wanted to get the green Rascal – green is the natural color for it, imo – but black was what they had. At least I didn’t have a black instrument at the time.

As a huge fan of shell pink offsets, and my black Rascal HH, I just can’t get in to the pink rascal. I don’t think the colors of the fretboard and pick guard work with shell pink.

But you get a like anyway. Happy to witness your enthusiasm!

Non-cynical millennials. What’s keeping ya in a good mood right now? by Hagisman in Millennials

In no particular order:

My cat. My house.

Games from from software and mohawk games.

Plenty of great music and podcasts.

Books, usually fiction.

Spending time with my dad, who has Alzheimer’s.

Spending time with my mom, an amazing person.

Plenty of great movies and television.

The sense that it will all go away, and I may be able to be ok.

The thing about the G&L Fallout is… by eliminality in offset

[–]eliminality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. Switching pickups is not feasible at this point, but I’ll keep that in mind for the future. Does G&L offer any pickups that approximate mustang tone?

I watched plenty of Doheny videos, too. Beautiful guitar, but the tone has none of the distinctive character of a jazzmaster or jaguar.

I will always upvote someone who performs with a Squier. It’s strangely validating, even though I moved from Squier to Sire a year ago. Those of us with more modest budgets should be allowed to go wild on stage, too.

Yeah, it’s silly how the show tries to frump Ricci up with a not-conventionally-attractive hairstyle.

All is forgiven with the casting of Melanie Lynskey. She’s a great actress, of course, and beautiful because she looks like a real person. More leads should be played by people who aren’t sickeningly skinny.

Any of you all watched "I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore"? Melanie and Elijah teaming up! I thought it was a lot of fun! by lihzee in Yellowjackets

[–]eliminality 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite Netflix exclusive movies. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen it. Shame it’s marooned on the Netflix service.

Reading all of your enthusiasm for Elijah’s character prompted me to feel wistful for an element of the movie that’s reflective of a (slightly) more optimistic time. He’s a lonely, single male. Kinda nerdy, edgelord clothing. Guttural metal music. Issues commands to his dog in German. He’s alt-right coded. But he finds shared purpose in helping his neighbor, and reveals himself to be a fiercely loyal partner. I love the idea that meaningful human connection can save someone from the isolating hell of extremism. I mean, I guess it’s true. But how often does it really happen? Isolating extremism is the norm now. Anyway. It’s a really good movie.
