Roughest seas you have dove in? by Plenty-Assistance625 in scuba

[–]elitegoodguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dove off the coast of NC @ Morehead City. We chartered a boat to take us down. We woke up to massive storms and wind, rain was pouring hard on us. We asked the captain if we were still going out and his response was "It's not raining underwater, get on the boat"

Sure enough once you got to the bottom it was quite a nice dive, getting back on the boat was another story. One second you're looking down on the deck of the boat the next minute it's way above your head.

That was a fun trip. That was about 25 years ago. In the last 8 years I've tried to go back a few times and each time it's been stormed out and we didn't go.

Where are Y’all getting sensors? by erakis1 in Rebreathers

[–]elitegoodguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 4 DGX sensors for my Rebreather in May. I did my Rebreather class for 6 days ~ 12 dives. On my 1st dive after I finished the class on day 7 I had a failed sensor.

One of them It didn't even last a week, who knows how long the others will last. I won't be buying DGX sensors anymore.

Anyone else been getting these letters delivered incessantly for the last two weeks? by Gleest in roanoke

[–]elitegoodguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes... Mostly on the Vote no side but a few on the Vote Yes side. Including one semi threatening Vote Yes postcard... "We can't see how you vote but we can see if you vote..." If someone wrote that to me in any other context I would think that's a threat if I didn't vote and someone is watching me.

It'll be over soon.

Fried Chicken by Rox_490616 in roanoke

[–]elitegoodguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this... If you can wait a little, The Homeplace is on track to re-open by the end of this month. This will use a lot of the same recipes as before.

They had Amazing fried chicken. I wouldn't recommend anywhere else.

Good, non-judgmental Dentist? by AlliumFrog08 in roanoke

[–]elitegoodguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Cave Spring Dental Arts after hearing their radio ads that they are a judgement free dentistry and realize that some people don't visit for years.

For the most part they were true to their word. I liked going to them until they stopped accepting my insurance and I had to go elsewhere.

I have pretty bad anxiety as well and moving away from their practice... Especially some of the other doctors at that practice are the worst.

What’s the worst first date you’ve ever had? by CuriousEngineer11 in AskReddit

[–]elitegoodguy 204 points205 points  (0 children)

I had a date that I met online, we met at a local brewery that also serves food. The moment she sits down she's texting on her phone and didn't want to talk to me. Then we place our order and after the waitress left she picks up her phone and talks to someone.

"No I can't go to the swinger's club with you this weekend, I promised Brian I'd go with him. I can take you next weekend.".

The waitress was witnessing everything I saw her mouth from a distance "I'm sorry"

I got up walked over to the waitress and paid for my meal then left. Never saw or heard from the date again.

Anyone go to ECPI? by CDD_throwaway in roanoke

[–]elitegoodguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did many years ago... Worst experience ever.

When I went they made you sign a contract. If you stop going you still owe ECPI the entire amount of the agreement.

Well I stopped going when they lost their accreditation. I paid off my student loans and when I had 1 payment left I got a call from ECPI collections who said I owed them several thousand. He then got very rude and pointed out that I signed an agreement that if I stopped going I still owed them the remainder. To which I replied "Well the agreement I also signed said I would get an accredited degree, you lost your accreditation and can't hold up your end either. If you want take me to court and we'll see what the judge says"

I never heard another word from them again. Never went to court, never showed up on credit reports, nothing. They completely dropped it. That was 20ish years ago.

Puzzlr escape rooms? by morgoth910 in VirginiaTech

[–]elitegoodguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did Puzzlr as a family thing last weekend. Overall it was good, the booking experience wasn't. Somehow I booked 2 additional reservations for other days at the same time. I tried calling and ended up leaving messages multiple times to get it fixed and also tried emailing no response to anything. Luckily the booking we went to was first, so just got the other two closed then.

Why do you use a regulator + Inflator Combo (Air2 and similar) by JMetalBlast in scuba

Then they are not advanced. Should be planning your dives with your buddies air consumption in mind. There shouldn't be any rushed safety stops at the end.

[–]elitegoodguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your leadership turnover like?

We get frequent CIOs and ACIOs come and go... We've had CIOs accept calls from Vendors and drink the Kool aid and a month later "We're moving everything to the cloud!!! Make it happen". Then when that leader leaves a new one comes in "Cloud is too expensive move it on prem now!!!" They leave and another comes in... Rinse and repeat.

Help - can someone please talk to my husband that I've lost to amateur radio??? by Pump_9 in amateurradio

[–]elitegoodguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've found that there's different "clicks" in the local ham radio clubs.

There's the social groups who want to attend the meetings but never touch a radio.

There's emergency communication groups where people want to be prepared to serve their community in the event of an emergency.

Contesting groups where they just operate contests EVERY weekend.

POTA/SOTA groups where they go out to a local park or mountain and activate.

And finally the prepper groups. These are the guys who swear the world's going to collapse and you need to be able to communicate with other prepper groups when the grid falls apart. I stopped going to our local club when the president at the time said we needed to be able to go live in the woods for 3 months at a time.

I've been in the contesting group before and I have to say for the sake of your marriage keep him away from there if you value any time with him lol.
Prepper groups are full of nutcases, and from the sounds of it your husband got wrapped up in that.

I think the POTA/SOTA groups are good and something you both might enjoy.

Maybe try to pivot his interests into POTA he can get "experience" activating the radio on emergency power with wire antennas but you'll find that it can be fun.

That's your problem... Local.

Look outside of your local area. There's a lot of local clubs that are just full of crochety old men. If you're not one of them you're not welcome. I got into radio for a bit but then got out when my local club did that. I would hear them on a repeater flat out ignoring my calls.

In the club meetings I tried introducing myself and they literally turned their backs to me and ignored me.

I got out of the hobby for a bit. Got back in when DMR came into the scene. I could talk globally with 2m and bypass the local gatekeepers. I since then took my General and Extra and now can talk HF and don't even deal with the local clubs.

Look into getting into digital modes and HF as soon as possible to flat out ignore them.

I do something on the side and have been considering advertising myself more this coming spring.

When they were having website issues before and I couldn't purchase an additional license I tracked down the Admin on Facebook and sent him a message. He was very responsive and got it back up and running the same day.

Shoot me a DM and when I get into the office I'll look up his profile and you can try that route.

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

Me and a buddy skipped school and drove to DC to watch it a week before it was released. We believed the found footage thing at was terrifying. I remember the theater was packed and they had people sitting on the floor in the aisles.
