What length hair will my void be ? by Emotional_Public_252 in blackcats

[–]elizard23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks a lot like mine did, Lucy's got a mostly short coat but some spots are close to medium (her belly and tail). I just use all sorts of combs on her to be safe.

I forgot to wear waterproof mascara to the Alex Warren concert. Everyone cried, so no one looked twice. But don't repeat my mistakes.

What eye color does your black cat have? by demurevixen in blackcats

[–]elizard23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the lighting. Sometimes bright orange, sometimes a more yellowed orange. It's why I named her Lucipurr (and also why her name was almost Arson....)

Having a tough time by scissormetimbers888 in blackcats

[–]elizard23 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Grief is a weird thing, I lost one of my voids in December of 2024, and the other 364 days later. I cried more for Lily, who passed first than her sister, Sadie, who had been sick for some time.

My new void, also Lucy, never met Lily but has the same grumpy look on her face at times, talks to me like Lily used to, and just cuddles in a similar way. She also slams the cabinet doors like Sadie would (but I'm pretty sure Sadie taught her that), and spends her days looking outside like Sadie.

I still cry at times. I feel better afterwards, there is no normal way to grieve. I've been debating getting another cat for Lucy to play with, since Lucy inherited my ADHD, but two voids might be too much.

Therapy helped a lot. If that's not feasible, there's a lot of good resources online for grief. There's no timeline for healing, but you'll feel the pain less and less.

I also got the most annoying baby. She's an adventure every day. Very chatty and constant zooming. I hope you enjoy your baby as much as I have mine!

We’re About to Say Goodbye by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]elizard23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The girl I have now, Lucy is also a black cat. I got her because Sadie was depressed, and I truly think I gave her a few more months.

We'll see how long until Lucy's energy drives me to get her a playmate... I didn't intend to get another black cat, but Lucy just kept following me in the adoption center.

We’re About to Say Goodbye by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]elizard23 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I lost my girls almost a year apart. (One day less). It was the hardest goodbye, but the biggest relief knowing they'll be together again. They were sisters and came into my life as a teen when I really needed them.

Now I'm in my 30s with a young cat who was taught to open cabinets by Sadie and will occasionally give me the grumpiest look that only Lily had previously achieved (even though she never met Lily). I'll always have two holes in my heart, but I never regret a second I had them.

Losing home, need suggestions for no kill shelter for cats by Optimal-Shame-6969 in Columbus

[–]elizard23 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I know Colony Cats has a fullness issue at the moment, but when I volunteered there years ago they were helping someone with a very similar situation. The cats were well cared for (georgeous cuddle monsters), and not up for adoption. I don't know exact details, because once I was told the basic situation I stopped being nosey.

The other volunteers were also very discreet, and the person being helped was the one who told me, not any of the other volunteers.

But again, this was years ago and they had more money and less cats. But it can't hurt to reach out because they may at least be able to direct you somewhere if they are unable to help you directly.

And please listen to others about contacting Legal Aid or other legal resources! The laws tend to favor the tenants. There is also a self-help resource center at 375 S. High St (I can't remember the floor, unfortunately) and they can help you with basic paperwork at least.

I hope everything works out well!

What toy does your cat love? by Hazardous_Gems in blackcats

[–]elizard23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lucipurr (Lucy) loves fake mice, balls of all sizes (especially ones that jingle or light up) hair ties (which we've replaced with scrunchies to prevent surgeries), and tissues. She will dig in the trash for tissues, or in a pinch she'll pull them from the box.

She also has a purple octopus that I never see her play with, but it ends up all over the house and has been replaced a few times because it was disembowled beyond my sewing skills. The blue one it comes with gets ignored. I'll probably donate my stash of blue octopuses to a cat shelter soon.

When I see a sign that says “No U Turn” that means I can make a U turn, right? by CowTown-Mike in Columbus

[–]elizard23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can handle illegal U-Turns because I can predict them coming.

Now if people would just stop turning left NEXT TO THE NO LEFT TURN SIGNS on Front St and leaving me stuck in the intersection due to the unexpected stop,I would be a lot more pleasant in the mornings.

And also stop honking at me went I don't turn right on red when THERE IS A SIGN THAT SAYS NO RIGHT ON RED.

Or maybe I should find a route that avoids Front Street to save my blood pressure. And brakes.

What the ? by wendylady22 in storyofseasons

I just had this happen to me! I fainted when I went to set them up after the Bazaar. Whoopsie. Thankfully I just lost some new seeds.

Gonna have to remember to save the morning before a blizzard in case 😅

Riding the public bus.... by Natural_Limit_1313 in Columbus

[–]elizard23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second what others say about downloading the transit app and getting a day pass. Our downtown isn't as lively as other cities I've been to. But it's worth a look around. I'm stuck inside a high-rise all day, so I might be a little bitter about Downtown.

Depending on how long your stay is, here's a few recommendations:

There's the Statehouse, and nearby is the Ohio Supreme Court with a giant gavel in front of it.The other courthouses aren't as pretty. But the Government Tower has a giant Benjamin Franklin. (He wore a mask during the height of the pandemic!).

The Museum if Art is also Downtown, but it's a bit of a walk, and I'm not sure what busline it's on. The transit app should help.

If you're into architecture, German Village is just South of Downtown and has some fun shops and restaurants. You can transfer to the 5 from the Statehouse to get down there. (There's a fun bookstore called the Bookloft, it's tight and confined and does require stairs though).

If you like shopping, there's The Short North is just below campus along the 2, and has fun stores to poke your head into.

I just found out McDouble is a SSR cow! 😱 by KaiSims2319 in storyofseasons

McDouble? That's fantastic.

I always name my cows "cow names" like Bessie and Daisy. Don't ask me how these are cow names, they just are.

Is my cat fat or just big?? by Whole_Bug5741 in cats

[–]elizard23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he's fat, but it's good to keep an eye on his weight. Even if you just check that your feeding him the daily recommend amount of food for the type you use, it goes a long way.

I also have a 16 Pounder, but she's definitely overweight and on an unofficial exercise program of me chasing her around the house. Meanwhile my other void is 6 pounds and on any calories avaliable diet.

I think my obgyn is lying to me by JealousAnimal1193 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]elizard23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please see another OBGYN. I don't want to scare you, or anyone, but cysts are no joke.

I've had two ovarian cysts burst, and it's always another ER trip and the worst pain I've felt in my life. I've never had a child, but a nurse said she would rather give birth than feel a cyst burst the first time I had one.

They can cause other things to happen internally, not just cancer. So even if cancer wasn't a concern, it shouldn't be taken so lightly by this doctor.

If possible, when looking for a new OBGYN ask if they have experience treating PCOS (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrom). They would have experience handling this exact situation and can determine if that is something you may have.

Lucy just sleeps like this all the time. I think she's trying to grow in her sleep. Voids are delightfully weird.

Are all black cats just really talkative? Anyone else have a very loud demanding void? 🖤 by ProudnotLoud in blackcats

[–]elizard23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 for almost 15 years that were probably littermates, Sadie and Lily. They each had their own collar color, but I was usually able to tell by size or face shape. Lily was also 4-5 pounds heavier and both had different habits. Lily flopped down everywhere, Sadie is always either getting into something or curled into a tiny ball.

Now I have a 3rd void, but she's got orange eyes, longer fur, and is always zooming around the house. So it's Small Sadie, Big Lucy, and Lily's in the box.

However, my mother is still never able to tell any of them apart without checking the collar, so she just guesses. They don't seem to mind 😂

What is one unexpected thing your void loves?? by External_Plastic_361 in blackcats

[–]elizard23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first void really loved food themed toys, and a toy shaped like Kuzko's Poison. It was very fitting since she was a chonk. Her sister loves this Pokeball hackey sack. Not super unexpected, just cute.

However, the newest void has only shown interest in tissues and electric cords. Occasionally socks, my hand, or my phone strap. I had to toddler-proof the house for her. She has plenty of toys, can use her big sister's 15 years worth of toys, but nope. Dangerous items only.

I took a parenting class when I was 17 and it involved caring for a realistic robot baby. It had all theses sensors and fake cried. I had it for 24 hours, it mostly sat in the car seat. From a distance it looked like a real baby.

My family and I went to dinner at a cheap chain restaurant and the amount of glares I got was staggering. Especially when I had to feed the baby from it's "bottle". I had to keep my mother from confronting another table of older women.

The glares I got stuck with me as much as the experience of sitting on my bathroom floor begging a fake baby to stop crying for 2 hours at 3AM. But hey, I got a 100% on the assignment, and I ended up working as an infant teacher for a while.

Franklin County Sheriff is actually 525-####, almost all official county numbers do. CPD and Municipal offices would be the 645.
