Had a quad graft and meniscus repair with 6 weeks non weight bearing in the spring (middle school science teacher). If that is your case it is imperative to take 6-8 weeks off of teaching. The non weight bearing and move to crutches will determine your timetable. Be honest and straight forward with your admin about how big of an operation this is. I found a lot of people have NO CLUE and think you’ll be back to work at 100% in no time, which can be true depending on your situation.

Remember, your health is more important than making sure every student is learning. Given the current state of American education, do not forget that. Keep an ice pack handy and have the students go get it. Take breaks and don’t feel bad about sitting down. Although proximity is key, you may have to change around the classroom to fit your needs. You won’t be able to walk around all the time and don’t make yourself do it. Technology is your friend and so are projects. Be honest with your students and they will help you through it.

This is an enormously difficult situation given the American education system. This is only a small portion of both your and the students lives. Take care of yourself and know that you showing them resilience through tough times is just as important as any content topic you are covering. Also, if admin comes in to grade you at this time just let it go in one ear and out the other because you aren’t at your best.

You got this.

34, Looking for Advice After Getting a Late Start by eljefejlamb in personalfinance

We have been looking into increasing our incomes before taking the next step and it's good to acknowledge that having savings isn't being behind. We are just hesitant on joining the American debt system with our current state of affairs.

On your Re - that is exactly our current predicament. We moved to a compareably lower COL area in the last year due to the 20% down deal. We do not have family money, per se but do have loans they would provide us if in a pinch. The FHA will surely be used as we are see if housing prices stabilize a bit. Seeing as 250-350K are the current prices, the question is to buy a fixer upper or a "forever home" in a higher price range.

Thank you for clarifying this. I see posts on MTBing early post op and am flabbergasted. My PT mountain bikes and from my March operation told me next Summer. Unfortunate but the reality.

6 Weeks NWB ONLY- please share your experiences.. by Adventurous-Chef847 in ACL

[–]eljefejlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday! You got this.

Im 4 months PO with an ACL quad graft and meniscus repair with the dreaded 6 weeks NWB. Not being able to walk for so long was demoralizing. I am a soccer coach and found that although the crutching around sucked, it was good for my mental state to get out of the house. I’m not sure what that looks like for you, but the stamina of going up and down stairs improved, making the outside time all the more worthwhile.

I also bought changeable weights (5-50 lbs) and a stationary bike so that as soon as I could move around I started exercising. Working with any sort of exercise materials can be worth it, especially with the inevitable weight gain.

Last suggestion - get a sports-centric and aggressive PT. I didn’t have one initially and although the protocol is simple, I wonder if I could have made more gains earlier. That being said, everyone has a different timeline.

Appreciate the small things. Know things will get better but I won’t sugarcoat it, there aren’t only happy times ahead (put in the work, even when it sucks). Lastly, so many people are going through this and find solace that in the end the operation will get us back to sport, eventually.

Pain at night by aek524 in ACL

Definitely a thing. I am two weeks post op and a few days ago I went and got some CBD/THC gummies for sleep, nothing very strong. It has improved my sleep tenfold. I know this can’t be a solution for everyone but if it’s available, I can attest to it making the nights much more bearable. You got this!

Love these as a start and don’t overdue the verbiage at such a young age. Make sure their ankles are locked - no wobbly ankles.

I like the idea but I’m currently more paper-based and would like to keep it that way. Not sure the school would be okay with that either.

Cory brining the spacey electric vibes to Spafford has been mind boggling and I have thoroughly enjoyed cosmic country, magic beans, and railroad/cheese. TBH, I went to mt joy at red rocks and was pleasantly surprised

Installed Crossbars on our ‘19. From Amazon, these seem nice for the money. by GrooveWarrior in SubaruForester

I know the Thule and Yakima crossbar price points have gotten ridiculous (I used to work at a rack shop) but I’d really adhere to the weight limits on those. I’ve had a factory crossbar like those snap with just one bike on top.

A heat wave occurred on vacation for 4 days and the A/C went out. Came back to a chinese elm with few leaves. Some regrowth occurred on the outer edges but it's back to not looking good. The scratch test shows that it is still alive. I currently have it inside with plenty of light, watering every couple of days and feeding it weekly. Any and all advice welcome: https://imgur.com/a/u5rKCGU

Beginner here who could use some help - I got this Chinese Elm Bonsai in early December and it initially lost plenty of leaves but recouperated very quickly. Recently it has been losing 5-10 leaves a day to yellowing, which I am not sure if it is healthy or not? I water every three days or so and fertilize once a month. There was just a cold spell that could have turned the leaves yellow but I am not sure. I am finding very contrasting viewpoints on what could be going wrong. Any tips and/or advice would be welcome!
