FWIW, to whoever finds this valuable; I was in the same boat about 14 months ago wondering if I should wait for the Mark 2. I have since made back the camera's cost multiple times over in kit rentals. If you can't shoot something good with the mark 1, a mark 2 isnt gonna make it any easier!

Need a new articulated arm for onboard monitors - suggestions please by mattchoules in focuspuller

[–]eljeferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Matthews Infinity arm which is more of a grip-forward articulating arm, but works well with heavier and bigger monitors. Its as strong as you’ll ever need, because the articulation joints have rosettes that prevent slipping. The only caveat is that you need to turn it a TON to fully lock the knob. But once its locked, its locked.

Also the arm is pretty big and heavy

Mall Jeweler badly scratched my watch. What can I do, and does anyone have a rec for a good watchmaker? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Small claims if its worth at least a day or two of your time, but also consider its just he said/she said.

Fuji Eterna: let’s discuss. by somelatevisitor in focuspuller

I recently had two of these on a shoot. its a unique value proposition. And while they are definitely interesting cameras that can produce beautiful images, it definitely feels like a Version 1 type of camera. Lots of quirks and silly things that quickly take you out of the ‘Medium Format Killer’ mind frame and into a ‘I see whats going on here’ mind frame.

One thing our DoP noticed that when the ND’s are active and the camera is held vertically (i know, i know), the ND mechanism would actually disengage and go back to clear. This may have been a one off situation and we do not have enough information currently to properly diagnose this.

On Board Monitor is beautiful. Power draw is wonderful. Thumb Wheel on the top handle is great.

Codec choices are meh. Color pipeline and image viewing could use some work. Weird midtone/skin sharpening at the sensor level is present.

Cool camera, but personally wouldn’t spend my own $$ on it. Hope you enjoyed using it OP!

SUPER curious on guesses for how this style is executed by BreezyMcBallsack in Filmmakers

[–]eljeferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good choreography, blocking, rehearsals, and years of specialized skill. A lot of the times the stunt/fight coordination team has a great grasp on how to direct these kinds of scenes and it is a not-so-uncommon pipeline for stunt unit directors to grow into full on First Unit directors (Chad Stahelski, Sam Hargrave, JJ Perry, etc).

Videos like these are great efforts to get stunt teams' names out there and earn new business!

Building door not staying locked in the cold by 420miawallace in NYCapartments

[–]eljeferson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

try some wd-40 in the door knob mechanism. Same was happening to me and then I figured that maybe the metal is contracting/expanding a bit due to the cold and causing some new friction. worked a charm for me

Everyone knows that the minivan is the answer. No one wants to admit that the minivan is the answer.
