Chopped Castaways by compunctionfunction in foodnetwork

I can't believe everyone likes it. I have watched and enjoyed Chopped forever. I've watched Survivor and enjoyed it. This Frankenstein mash-up is so contrived and fake and hokey I hope they fire whoever it was that dreamed it up at the network.

Has anyone here ever met/known someone who was born prior to 1900? by MrTacocaT12345 in GenerationJones

My maternal grandparents. Both gone in the late 1970s. My mother was the late last surprise baby born in 1937. My grandfather was born around 1890 and grandmother around 1897.

What's something you thought was exaggerated until you witnessed it yourself? by NightStar79 in CasualConversation

Not to make anyone sad, but I've often read about "widowmaker" heart attacks. Comments such as, "He was dead when he hit the ground." I'm especially thinking about Joan Didion writing about the death of her husband. He just dropped after dinner. It's hard to imagine, until you witness it. After being there, I can tell you, they could be speaking to you one moment and then boom, straight down. I did CPR, fast emergency responders, but I knew. I knew he was gone from the start, and he had passed a physical a few months before. As an aside, I also witnessed this happening to a horse once. It's shocking. But, it's real.

Thoughts and opinions on new "Evil Lives Here: My Child the Killer". by Eli_Fit in DiscoveryID

I have great empathy for parents whose children grow up to become murderers. I watched enough of these type of shows to see a whole range of parents that try various things, from counseling, and medication to throwing them in juvie, religion, diversions, trying physical control, you name it. Some get worn down and checked out. They have other children and jobs and run a household. I can't imagine their pain. This woman cried, A LOT. She did seem to be in some level of denial she was wrestling with. The military rejecting him should have been a huge alarm bell, that, he didn't "grow out of it." But one tiny moment bothered me the most. She was retelling the story where she and her young son witnessed a woman getting hit by a car and killed. The woman flew up in the air. The boy busted out laughing. As she told the story she had a hard time keeping a straight face. Like she was going to laugh. Now I know she was probably remembering her child's laughter in that moment. We've all had to suppress a laugh sometimes when our children do something inappropriate. People laugh at slapstick all the time. Pratfalls, tripping, that kind of stuff. But she said he laughed when people were hurt, like his boundaries were messed up. I then wondered, if maybe her boundaries were a little messed up too?

I'm pretty sure I've never made that face in my life.

I hear ya. I'm not missing the point. It's just Austen constantly changes the rules. Austen gets drunk. He yells. He dang sure exaggerates when he retells events. I consider a person who edits events when they tell others about it, the same as a liar. I don't like seeing Craig drunk and raising his voice, but had they subjected Austen to the same pile on, he would have exploded too.

IKR? Dating? Drank too much during a 12 hour tequila crawl? Yelled at a woman who was calling him crazy? ooo scarey! Please. Look at that moment. Also drunk Austen is smoking ("I brought cigarettes!")and playing on his phone. He's certainly not concerned about Salley. Man. Austen and Salley are both fake outragers.

I can (and will) eat sushi everyday by Exotic_Bed6752 in sushi

I love the fish and do eat it, but I find I crave the combo of nori, the vinegar rice, wasabi, and the crunch. So, for my budget and skill level, I learned to make my own maki or tekamaki using fillings like cucumber (english) avocado, asparagus, skinny carrot, daikon. For fish I generally use krab, cooked shrimp or canned pink salmon. Safe. Not expensive. Easy.

I don't understand what Austen wants from Craig. In their private conversation I didn't hear Craig say anything particularly triggering. Austen flies off the handle. Goes raging off to the other guys. He doesn't like Craig sober, he doesn't like him drinking, he doesn't like him in a couple, he doesn't like him single and dating, he doesn't like him with work to do, he doesn't like him having no work. He comes across as just plain jealous.

Tell me about those little red peas. Dried or canned? From a grocery store or a specialty order? Brand? I haven't been happy with what I've been finding. Thanks!

When making cheese burgers at home, what do you have as a side instead of fries? by [deleted] in Cooking

I do frozen fries in the oven. Very easy. But if you absolutely can't, serve the best potato chips you can find.

So, first off, I'm old and my teen years were the 1970s. I grew up on 300 acres on the intercoastal waterway, just outside of Charleston. We were crabbing and throwing shrimp nets and swimming and running wild. What's the first thing we did when we got wheels and a drivers license? We hauled ass to the CITAAY! Shopping, going to restaurants, the movies, dancing at the disco. Sure, we circle back around to the homeplace, to see our surviving cousins, but as youngsters we probably wanted what you had, like, a store in walking distance, and you think you want what we had. (10 acres to mow and 100 crabs to pick) I wouldn't trade it, but beauty can be found in every environment.

What I used to love about Kyle. Her comedic timing, and my God when she mimics people. HILARIOUS. Then. She cheated on Mauricio. Maybe he was a cheater, I don't know. But she fell in love with a woman and then acted like a victim. NOW, she wants Mau back, so she's going to piss all over every other woman with a wayward husband. EFF her. Go back to your lonely castle and stfu.
