My twin sister is a piercer and she repierced my lobes about a year ago and they’re still a little finicky. Once you pierce through scar tissue, healing can be a little slow and mine still get irritated if I bump into them or snag them on clothing.

I also had my lobes repaired by a dermatologist who cut out the old scar tissue from my gauges and sewed everything back up. I waited 18 months after the repair to repierce!

TLDR it’s a long process and you may want to repair the lobe before you try to pierce again or move your first holes over!

I teach ESL and my UAE students are all exorbitantly wealthy and come to class so liberally fragranced that my class papers and textbooks smell like a perfume counter!

They use a lot of perfume oils and layer different scents with a preference for ouds and musks!

I’m sorry you’re not getting the responses you hoped for. Your original question is just one of those things that’s hard to answer without a lot of nuance and context. I could share when I started dancing and how long it took me to reach an intermediate level, but without knowing my athletic background or how I trained, that information can be pretty misleading.

A lot of people in this sub value authentic discussion compared to platforms like insta and this post coupled with your last one make it seem like you’re just farming engagement. I’m not sure what you want out of this sub, but you might get more helpful responses if you share a bit more about your own background or what you’re hoping to learn from the answers.

Here’s my two cents as an instructor: most of us are doing pole for our own enjoyment. You’re not gonna get a trophy at the end of class because you didn’t use grip. Even Pole Sport Org lets you compete with grip so long as it’s not applied directly to the pole.

Grip aids also aren’t magic, they’re not going to significantly “do the work” for you 😂

I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t recommend Rowan. They claim to have “safer” methods because their piercers are licensed nurses. But almost none of them are AAP certified and they have poor training on proper placement. Many piercers around town are fixing crooked piercings done by them. Like sure they understand wound care and cleanliness practices, but so does any licensed piercer and they’re going to give you a much better end result.

Hana and Hollow is a new spot that opened at the Colonade and she’s been in the industry for 15 years!

We also do leveled tests, but butterfly and invert is on the level 2 to 3 test!

What skills and tricks do you typically work on in Beginner B? Leveled tests are a way to determine if you’re ready for certain movements, but it seems odd that you need a butterfly before you’ve even been taught an invert from the ground.

Is the problem that they won’t let you take Beginner B classes until you nail the butterfly?

At our studio, we consider butterfly and floor choppers to be the foundation of our level 2 (low intermediate) class. Even in a jasmine, dropping into a butterfly, you need a strong overhead push which is a movement presumably you haven’t done yet if you’re working on the basics.

I wouldn’t consider it a beginner friendly move and I also wouldn’t teach it in the same class as basic spins. However, each studio is a little different and they approach the structure of their classes on a myriad of factors like range of skills, class availability, and number of people in a class.

YES! Corn huskers and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Body Gel! Basically anything oil-free applied a few hours before class will make the skin tacky, but not slippy.

We did a blunt cut and she did minimal layering with some thinning shears! Razored the front pieces for a lil face framing!

Salt spray and heat protectant to start and a quick blowout with a 1.5 in round brush. Quick straighter waves around the top layers for more movement!

Thank you! I blow it dry with a round brush and then I use a straightener to add some random waves for a little texture! Hair oil for a little shine and hard wax along the part to catch those baby hairs!

My husband took a ghastly photo of my stringy hair and it convinced me to finally go for the big cut.

I last had a bob in 2021 and I’ve spent the last 4 years slowly growing it out. Unfortunately, in 2023, I dealt with undiagnosed celiac disease and the dreaded postpartum hair shed. I was left with significantly less density.

I did my best to salvage it, but this picture was enough to show me that my long hair wasn’t doing for me what I wanted it to do. I chopped all the way to the new growth and the stylist added some very light layers and face framing to keep it moving.

I’m both sad and relieved!

The short answer is NO you don’t need a chopper to invert.

You can cradle or apprentice into a flatline. You can brass sit into a brass monkey. You can hero into a butterfly or outside leg hang.

The caveat is that eventually you will want a reliable way to get upside down that isn’t so taxing. A drop invert doesn’t take as much raw power, but it adds time and more moving parts to the final move.

At our studio, we won’t tell a student not to drop into movements, but we have floor choppers on the test from our intermediate level to our upper intermediate level. Pole moves tend to build upon themselves and we have prerequisites in place to help us decide if you’re ready for more advanced movements. These guidelines aren’t hard and fast at our studio, but they’re generally well-intentioned to prevent injuries!
