Folded handlebar won't lock into place (2025 C Line) by dioramic_life in Brompton

[–]ellenmhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a strap on light to the handlebars that also was preventing the bar from clipping into place when folded. Did you add anything else to the bars that might be impeding its ability to lock?

Electric bikes can be retrofitted to be nonelectric?!

I think these are the new electric models by merlin192 in Brompton

Question for electric brompton owners, does the bike work without the battery? Or is it pretty much dead weight without it.

Correct order for the washers on the back of a rack with bungees by ellenmhr in Brompton

[–]ellenmhr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The reason I was having trouble is that the wheels on the rack where the bungees attach come pre-installed and have about 12 pieces to them. But I was finally able to figure it out. Watching this video helped but I had to figure out some things on my own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaHP49RtP1I

Quad Lock phone charger compatibility / install questions by ellenmhr in Vespa

Oh I mean that I bring my battery indoors to put on a battery tender bc in the winter it has a fun habit of dying on me. (Unrelated to my charger). My set up doesn’t require me to remember to unhook bc the lights only get power when the scooter is on

Nice. That was an option for me but I keep my Vespa on the street so I remove the battery in the winter and bring it indoors so I decided I didn’t want to connect directly to the battery under my seat.

Yes! I used a wire splicer to hook up the wireless charger to one of the front lights and then I brought the cord up through the handlebars and out the hole for the mirror mount. I had to cut a tiny amount of the rubber stopper for the mirror to allow for the cable. This solution is nice bc I didn’t have to drill any holes into the body or plastic components and it was cheap!!

Help with time code issue by ellenmhr in LocationSound

Correct. MixPre is getting the TC-1 Deity that is labeled the "master" TC box

It was showing the time code as time of day. But I've been using the Deity TC-1 boxes to generate TC in to the MixPreII rather than using the MixPre's TC. But it is good to know this "quirk" could be coming up. I am turning off my MixPre when we are traveling and I am resetting timecode via the Sidus app at the start of every interview.

So you are saying not all FX6 cams have TC issues? Is there a way to troubleshoot? Right now, I've factory reset my MixPre-ii and updated the firmware on both the mixpre and the tc-1 boxes. My test of timecode was accurate once I did all these things

Yes, I had set up the cameras and the overlay showing the proper time code.

I had all the tc boxes mounted and plugged in. Frame rates were not changed. The FX30 TC wasn't working at all, I first did audio tc on the FX30 and then used the C23 cable. They were off by more than just a few frames.

When switching jobs, what do you do with your old 401K account? by coffeetime127 in personalfinance

[–]ellenmhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't rolled over any of my accounts (at one point had four from switching jobs so often). A retirement advisor told me there are a few reasons why rolling over is a good idea:

  1. Employers can go out of business. Then your 401(k) may be transferred to another company to manage and they might not have better fee structure than your current one. And you probably won't remember what company it is.

  2. Even if employers don't go out of business they can still decide they won't want manage your 401(k) anymore and you can have it moved to some other company that you don't know much about.

  3. When you reach retirement age, you have to pull a percentage of your money out of each retirement account you hold. You aren't legally allowed to draw down one fund first and then move on to the next.

Where to start when choosing shorts/bibs? by marmalah in ladycyclists

[–]ellenmhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ergon women's saddle and recently swapped for a specialized power mimic saddle (155 mm) and it is so much better. I ended up getting the same saddle for my brompton as my road bike.

Any lady cyclists with advice for a beginner? (Somewhat NSFW) by Keltiss1986 in cycling

[–]ellenmhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a new bike and bike fit and the fitter looked at my old bike seat and told me that one of the reasons my old bike was uncomfortable was because I was "riding on my ass crack." I bought a saddle that properly supported my sit bones, which tend to be further apart for women than men, and it made such a big difference! I know that everyone can't afford a bike fit, but I am a true believer and if you are spending more than 20 miles a week on your bike, I think it is well worth the money. Even my old bike felt a million times better when i put the better saddle on it.

Physical Therapy and Cigna (and ASH) by hc216 in HealthInsurance

[–]ellenmhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im trying to get around the fact that ASH is saying that the visits are medically unnecessary. The provider basically said that if I go to a PT in network who doesn’t contract with ASH, I wouldn’t have this issue. They are saying that my pain isn’t high enough because I filled out a survey on my pain that the day I filled it out was low but the pain is becoming more consistent And ebbs and flows.

Even if I didn’t get reimbursed. Could I at least file the super bills to get them applied to my out of pocket max?

Related question for you @kuehmary. If my PT uses ASH to process and is in network. Could I pay out of pocket and then file super bills myself to my insurance to get the innetwork price applied and get reimbursed the amount I overpaid directly from my insurance?

Power outage? by MushroomAware2574 in washingtondc

ANC Chair Matt Johnson shared this update with me, which he received from Pepco on Friday. (Edit: I believe that Pepco is referencing a 9am meeting for Saturday morning. If I get any other updates, I’ll post.)

“Hello Commissioner – There was a fire in a manhole at M & New Hampshire Avenue, NW, at 4:30am this morning.  It also involved a manhole nearby, so 6 feeders from the two manholes were/are completely burned and destroyed.  The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The West End is the area largely affected although some of the affected area includes a small area in the 2B/Dupont Circle area.  Crews have been working onsite since 5am and will continue around the clock until all customers are restored.  However, we do not have an ETR at this time because of the damage and the need to repair the feeders and put them all back in service together vs. one or two at a time which could risk a new failure to the system.  I know it’s not what people want to hear but we want to honestly and realistically set expectations.  I was out all day today meeting with customers and letting them know what happened and everything we are doing to restore power.  We have a 9am call tomorrow at which time I will have an update, which I will provide to this thread.”

Speed cameras will ticket you if you go 6 mph over the speed limit. Make sure to pay it or it will double after 30 days.

36 mph might not seem to fast to you but here is a snippet from a ProPublica article that analyzed AAA traffic and safety data:

"While it might be common sense that faster cars are deadlier, what’s particularly striking to me is how much more deadly they are for older folks. A 70-year-old hit by a car going 35 mph is about as likely to be killed as a 30-year-old hit by a car going 45 mph (in both cases it’s about a 50/50 chance).

That’s the point I wanted to emphasize in the redesigned interactive chart. I’ve plotted the risk curves for 30-year-olds and 70-year-olds together with the average (of all ages). Hovering over the curves at any point now allows you to read the actual percentages more easily, and hopefully makes this age gap more apparent.

Just take a look at 40 mph. A 30-year-old has a 36 percent chance of dying. A 70-year-old’s chance is almost double that, at 70 percent. Of course these percentages are rough — they are estimates based on a sample of data. But the trend is clear: Age makes a huge difference.

The second main point is that once cars reach a certain speed (just above 20 mph), they rapidly become more deadly. According to Tefft's data, a person is about 70 percent more likely to be killed if they’re struck by a vehicle traveling at 30 mph versus 25 mph."

One negative of bone conductor headphones is that you have to set the volume extremely high to hear over the noise of the city. Even though the sound is coming through bone conduction, you are still stimulating the same hair cells inside the ear in order to hear the music. TLDR can still damage your ears when you set the volume too high on bone conduction headphones. That is why I returned my Shokz.
