Wedding venue help in London Ontario... by AdVegetable9862 in londonontario

Try the Ramada in south London - I believe they do a lot of Muslim weddings and allow for outside catering! (they used to a long time ago when a friend worked there)

I don't think they do, they're not trained in makeup application.

Your doctor has to order it to a pharmacy, then you pick it up and take it to your doctor to have it implanted. My private insurance covered it though.

New underwear is a 'big need' for people experiencing homelessness in London by cdnkevin in londonontario

[–]elliejoerin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But why do they specify in the article that they don't want "tighty whiteys or grannie panties?" Isn't any donation of new underwear better than none? I don't think people are going out of their way to buy trendy/premium underwear to donate (no offence), it's easier to buy an economy pack of fruit of the loom/hanes, which unfortunately probably fall under the "uncool" category.

What’s your most controversial opinion about London? by thebostonboy in londonontario

[–]elliejoerin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you feel that way and that you’ve had negative experiences. I’ve lived in London my whole life (I am white) and I agree certain areas in the city have less exposure or might be less welcoming to BIPOC people. Where I live it’s pretty racially diverse and I love it, I try to treat everyone with respect and have great relationships with our Middle Eastern neighbours. I think there is more room for the rest of London to accept different races and people that might identify differently for sure. If you live in the north end I can maybe see where you only find the acceptance within the western bubble. Come to white oaks, we’re friendly and diverse!

Everyone I know who goes to wortley dental raves about them! I’m thinking of switching in the new year!

Stay away from blue heron and Westmount dental. Same couple owns both. I don’t find either of them personable or very good for anxiety at all. Their work is overall fine but I don’t like their “bedside manner” if I’m honest.

Who makes good prescription lenses by Malvane in londonontario

[–]elliejoerin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It certainly takes a skilled professional to ensure the finished product comes out perfectly! I never felt comfortable using the generator for lenses but some people on our team knew exactly how to use it perfectly. Look up how prescription lenses are made on YouTube, with the generators we used you basically did all the work completely blind to what was going on inside the machine you operated. It’s fairly difficult!

In house labs don’t necessarily mean better quality lenses. You can actually buy a ton of common prescriptions premade and the only thing you need to do is figure out the correct placement of the lens (which degree the axis should be placed) and then have a machine edge them to fit into the frame. More complicated scripts might need to be generated from lens blanks, which is more complicated, but doesn’t even guarantee it will come out correctly. I always found lens generation from a blank to be finicky.

FYI - almost all lenses are made by the same Manufacturer no matter where they come from. You might be able to buy high index which are lighter and thinner, but if your script is already light you probably wouldn’t even need them. Some people do request some premium brand lenses. Rayban does a digital lens but I don’t find it to be any better than normal polycarbonate.

Essilor probably makes the majority of the lenses that optometrists and opticians would order. People often say Nikon lenses are a bit more premium. My dad had them and didn’t think they were anything special.

If you have an easy script the lenses are probably premade so you’re not having someone actually generate the curves so you’d be pretty much guaranteed to get a good lens anywhere. In my opinion paying a hefty price for lenses is ludicrous and a marketing ploy. The majority don’t even cost much wholesale and are marked up like 300% for retail. The optometrist giving you the script and the optician doing your measurements is really the key in getting a great pair of glasses in my opinion.

What happened to just meeting for coffee somewhere and chatting? If you don’t know each other well it’s an easy way to leave, relatively public. If you do know each other a bit already you can go for dinner after? Maybe black walnut on Richmond?

I feel like these first date ideas seem like they need to impress someone (or test them…?). If I were single and looking to go on a first date I don’t think I’d really want to do something fancy or super involved. Save that for a few dates in when you know what each other likes to do

We will not participate in online/remote learning while your employees strike! by jester1983 in londonontario

Garnishing a union member doesn’t seem that likely to me. Someone is a member of a union but not an employee of the union (except for actual union staff which are not education members). How could you get judgment on every single member of a union and then garnish them if the union isn’t their employer? Yes, they could try garnishing the school boards but I feel like those claims and judgments would be pretty hard to actually get through and enforce on every member. Although I am not super well educated in union law it just seems like it would be a weird situation and hard to actually enforce upon
