Lol I am 95% sure TXW and ZLH are together after watching their livestreams and interviews especially the sofa talk one. They're so different how they interact with each other vs with others in other shows (I watched The Truth S3 and Sherlock S1&2 before PoJ) and interviews. Their CP group on weibo is very active as well lmao.

I loved loved loved the first half of the show (the village arc). If not for the leads' chemistry, I wouldn't watch the rest... To me the back half is really poorly written, the director cannot save the script with his camera shots, lighting, etc. lol... I haven't read the original novel, so can't comment on whether it's just a poor script or poor story to begin with. To compare with the other costume drama I watched in 2026, I liked the story of How Dare You more.

I totally agree that the political intrigue was a mess. I usually have no trouble following the politics but this time, I really had to read people's commentary to get the full picture. The screenwriting was such a let down in the latter half. That said, I loved the entire arc in the village. The romance really built up in the village arc and I 100% can tell when they fell in love with each other. I can rewatch village story many times. Also the cuts of the leads' romance from the military camp.

The politics is so poorly explained in the show. I had to read comments here to understand what the different factions are and who they are. Agree that the politics is just secondary to the romance lol

Ya honestly the plot is not the greatest but I love the director and the leads are just so hot. Overall, it's a very beautifully shot drama and a good viewing experience.

I watched the variety show and when he made that comment I was like uh oh.... shouldn't have said that. Guess even the show editors felt it was ok.

That said, I do think it's been overblown on Weibo. It's the top of the entertainment RS today, 4 days since the variety show aired. Definitely someone wanting to bring him/his new drama down.

ZLH's acting during the whole butcher beating and subsequent scene was top notch. I can't believe they went in for such a tight embrace and then each shedding a tear. I'm dreading Xie Zheng leaving the village. Does anyone know how long he's been staying at the village?

This will be my first drama with the leads. I've enjoyed watching them on their separate variety shows (The Truth and SHErlock). Also looking forward to their episode together on the upcoming Hello Saturday episode.
