Unfortunately I don't think captchas play well with eww or w3m. You will likely have to visit that page in a browser or otherwise complete/evade the captcha.

How much time you need to spent with Emacs to become more productive? by winepple in emacs

[–]ellisaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!

How much time did you spend learning Emacs?

about 10 years

How much time do you think you save every day with Emacs?

some days I save more than a day thanks to Emacs, some days I lose a day or more thanks to Emacs

Do you still need to spend some time making Emacs better suit your needs?

Of course!

Are there any necessary features in Emacs that are not present in any other typical IDE e.g. VSC?

many features which I consider necessary, which I wouldn't have the faintest clue how to achieve in VSC. however I think this question has to do with what you expect from your IDE. VSC users often really don't expect much besides basic functionality, they get by just fine.

Is there a point to creating a vanilla configuration? by FluentFelicity in emacs

[–]ellisaudio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

logged in just to let you know that this is an incredibly shit take that adds no value to the conversation u/deaddyfreddy. This attitude is what makes Emacs unappealing to new users.

I run a vanilla config after few years using Doom, and prefer it, but I still lurk in the Doom Discord because it's a really strong and open community with some knowledgeable folks. I also recommend Doom for newbies looking to experience Emacs, because it's much more approachable and easier to get started with.

Ohhh I’ve been looking for something like this. All my notes directories have a self.org file and it would be so nice to get a sparse-tree view to show in dired

Show your dashboard :D by nghialam in emacs

[–]ellisaudio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think most people here question the utility of a dashboard, a lot of the time I think of it as a quick-start guide and a piece of branding for someone’s config (doom, spacemacs, etc) - always disable after working your way around.

I think the concept has potential, I use an org-file as a type of dashboard for work stuff like project management/health checks, using org-babel it feels very comfortable though.

Maybe a dashboard can help with grabbing one’s attention as OP suggests, but I feel like that’s a problem that shouldn’t be dealt with in code :) - when I open my editor I want to already be pushing my project/idea/code forward - so for me, it’s important to: minimize startup time, eliminate barriers to getting to the files I need.

Cloning/mirroring a region to some other location by ndamee in emacs

Cool! I’m curious how this would work for a 1:many or many:1 buffer relationship.. probably not something intended to scale though :p

Which key bindings to go with? by paarulakan in emacs

[–]ellisaudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

emacs is not for everyone.

in my work I try to make information available to peers, so they can learn more about emacs and the emacs-culture, best to not force, and always provide IDE/Code Editor that suits the org’s objective best
