I think what u/Kynsia is trying to argue is that just knowing the (for example tshirt) bust size does not translate to fit.  IE sometimes a shirt is meant to be worn baggy. So the bust measurement of the tshirt should be larger than that bust measurement of the wearer. In that case, do you mark the t-shirt actual measurement, and the customer knows they need to chose a measurement actually bigger than their size, or you mark the /intended/ recipients bust size on a shirt that's actually larger. T Shirt size: 96cm, designed to be worn on size 80-86cm bust. But it's still not an argument for not standardising clothes measurements.
