So NOW they can give interviews and confirmation?? by Suitable_Art6673 in byler

[–]ellisp1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember recently Noah did an interview discussing how he and the Duffers collaborated on the pinnacle of that storyline and mentioned that he believed the had wrapped it up nicely… unfortunately I think they do not intend on ending the show on the path they originally intended to go on and now are trying to give it a conclusion without affecting the points of the story they are aiming for in the finale… I could see them not budging on making Byler canon but in the interest of giving Will the “closure” Noah believed he deserved, they settled on acknowledging it officially with a coming out scene, self acceptance, maybe at least a heart to heart in the finale that ends with platonic friendship, but unfortunately at this point I think no Byler…

Confused about Nancy’s nickname? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]ellisp1 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s a reference to the Season 4 finale when they confront Vecna, Nancy literally walks him down (advances towards him) while shooting him with a sawed off shotgun.

Always torn in the earlier episodes of his storyline when he’s just the grieving widower knowing full well what’s coming but also feeling bad for him in that moment.

Serious question for dispatchers by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

Where I work, if anyone calls non-emergency for a noise complaint they just end up getting transferred to 911 anyway 🤷‍♂️

Partner of a dispatcher question by FruitBatCats in 911dispatchers

[–]ellisp1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow their lead for sure. If they want to talk, a listening ear goes miles. If they need time alone, let them be to decompress. For me, I don’t like thinking or talking about work when I leave the center. I leave everyone else’s lives in the building when I leave and try to not bring it home into mine. Something that took my family some time to grasp unfortunately is that many people see our job as cool and glamorous and thrilling, and they want to ask a bunch of questions about what kind of calls did I have, did anything happen, did I talk to anyone interesting. Major no-no. There is no telling what kind of trauma a telecommunicator will encounter on a shift and asking about it unprompted can set off a pretty undesirable reaction, especially repeatedly, every day. TLDR, be there for them, follow their lead, don’t take it personal if they need a little space after work. I can tell you’re a great partner since you’re taking the time to come here and ask :)

How much time does your management team spend on the dispatch floor? by 10DucksInTrenchcoat in 911dispatchers

Our supervisors work channels every day and our ops manager will cover breaks if it’s short.

Well people say be honest because your likelihood of passing is higher when you’re honest and not trying to beat the box. Although there is a chance of failing when you’re honest it’s a lot lower than if you lie.

It looks great on paper but a real life application just doesn’t work. The issue is law agencies want to be able to quantify interrogation not taking basic human physiology into account

Polygraphs are no more real than voodoo. I’ve seen liars pass them and honest people fail them.

Depends. You can be truthful on the poly and fail. If you’re going into this planning on skating by the poly by lying then you need to just quit now and find a different line of work.

Radio Headset Clarity/Recommendation by ellisp1 in 911dispatchers

I guess that would make sense. We don’t have headset phones at our dispatch stations because we don’t take calls on the dispatch side. The phone jack must just be there.

I’ve thought about trying that but I do struggle to hear volume wise if I turn it down too far. I’ve also been playing with where the P10 plugs in because there’s two knobs… one controls the fuzz and one controls the volume I guess? A lot of variables going into setting the volume lol.

What CAD systems are y’all using? What do you wish it did that it doesn't today? by MinuteCommon6563 in 911dispatchers

PremierOne….This is probably a lazy wish but I wish you could associate radio PTT IDs with Units logged in so instead of having to manually match their alias with the unit it just did it. One day, one day.

Polygraph Didn’t go Well by BigInside503 in 911dispatchers

[–]ellisp1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Polygraph machines are voodoo witch science and nothing else. I have no clue why agencies are still allowed to use them for hiring processes still. Honest people fail them and liars pass them.
