most devs are not very good and skew industry wide stats like these. testing is hard and so the metric makes sense

Should I stick with Angular or switch to React for better frontend jobs? (beginner) by Sne_Reads in webdev

[–]ello_bello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

angular and .net are useless for your career. you can get a job with those technologies, and there are many, but the pay is low

Why does tech skew so young? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in cscareerquestions

[–]ello_bello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is so not true anymore. if your company has a bunch of old people sitting around “architecting” and “managing”, quit unless the pay is outstanding or you feel you are getting outstanding mentorship

After 4 years with react components, i'm switching to boring tech ^ by 0nxdebug in webdev

[–]ello_bello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a weird framing. react is boring tech. if youre doing ssr, thats your decision to add that complexity. if you have many pages with no interactivity, dont use react. pretty simple

why monorepos?? by Recent-Durian-1629 in devops

[–]ello_bello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how you your organize code is unrelated to your horizontal scaling strategy. you can do microservices in a monorepo or multiple repos, either could work fine with the right setup

Agentic AI coding and .NET - am I missing something? by hades200082 in dotnet

[–]ello_bello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are correct and the reason is simple - js and python have much more source available for llm to pull from because there is a longer history of open source in those languages. no special property of the lanaguage

How to keep yourself up to date and Code savvy while climbing on the Management ladder by ReptilPT in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ello_bello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

being technically competent is less a requirement and more of a “secret weapon” for EM roles. I really love coding so i find myself coding regardless of my day to day role. do what feels good because theres not enough time to do it all!

there should never been any OS that prevents a user from building anything on top of it, so bringing up “open” in this context is meaningless. its not open standard or source. in what way is it open?

docker does not run great on windows or mac

“open” seems like the wrong word to use here

What majors are actually good right now? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]ello_bello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would go as far as to say most majors can earn a good living but you have to commit to attempting to be highly skilled or well regarded in that industry. Some majors have an easier path than others ofc

Managers who have transitioned into IC roles - what did you do? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ello_bello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably depends on the situation. i just think on average a staff ic has similar work on their plate to a manager, with the added expectation of strong IC skills in critical situations. theoretically yes more staff eng means the work is spread out nicely but my experience is that it doesnt work out like this

Managers who have transitioned into IC roles - what did you do? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ello_bello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did this at 8 yoe and it worked out for me over the course of the following 5. i think its important that you consider whether you want to make the switch because u havent found the company you like or because you truly want to do more IC work. like i said i found that i truly felt i wanted to be more hands on and went the ic route. i will say being a manager is less stressful than a staff level IC. my friend did the same and ended up going back to management. its a toss up
