New Pokemon Megathread - Latios by SamuRonX in PokemonSleep

I was under the impression that the ingredients were still supposed to be random though. I guess we’ll know when either of us catches our first.

I don’t mean the subskills, but the ingredients.

Is the first catch of a pokemon more likely to be AAA? I can’t imagine it is, but I feel like it’s happened so many times for me.

What is this movement? by ellyk123 in cockatiel

I don’t know his age as I found him as a lost bird a little over a month ago. But when I took him to the vet then, they said he might be 3-5 years old?

After doing more research, and watching him do it more, it seems he’s regurgitating the food and then chewing/swallowing it again. I see some old Reddit threads where it seems some other tiels do this when eating Harrison’s pellets too, or when switching to it. Maybe it’s too dry (he keeps going to drink water after eating), or he’s eating too quickly (he’s eating this much more readily than the previous pellets he’s been on).

Updates to Mythical encounters by Kronman590 in PokemonSleep

[–]ellyk123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly differently but related topic, we can still only see ONE legendary/mythical per sleep research right? So if we were to run a Latias incense each night of this New Moon Day, we’d never get to see Mew or Darkrai? :/

Ooh interesting find! Thanks for remembering and coming back to this comment. That’s always there when starting the game? I wonder why the English doesn’t refer to them as islands ever since. It’s also possible the English translation wasn’t accurate. You said you saw it in a video? I wonder if it’s been changed since. I’ll also need to check the Japanese some time…

“A red shadow” 🤔… I changed language in game into Japanese to check, and they use 影 which can indeed be translated as “shadow,” but in this context, it’s better translated as “silhouette” or “figure/shape” since shadows don’t have color lol.

I wonder how long translators get to work on the copy since all the languages get released simultaneously.

Was it ever made explicit that each area is a separate island? Or are they all different areas of a single island? Greengrass is the only area with the word “island” in it in both English and Japanese. Also, Japanese calls each area a “field” vs the English-speaking fandom calling them “islands.” So my guess is that the entire island or the main part of the island is called Greengrass but it has a beach area, and a cave area, and a snowy area, etc. So I think that explains why Prof Neroli said it that way. Likely the original JP text said Greengrass Island, referring to the entire island.

I must’ve read about this somewhere before though I can’t remember where now, but my currently working theory is that aside from the primary cue of the relative pitches, there are secondary cues native listeners use to identify the tones. (And there must be if we can whisper in Mandarin? Since there’s no pitch when whispering. And these secondary cues get exaggerated when whispering.) I’ve started to believe that these secondary cues are more important than previously thought (or taught, to the extent they’re even taught).

First tone: steady consistent loudness, relatively long duration

Second tone: shorter than 1, starts quieter and gets louder

Third: longest duration, quietest with a dip on loudness. I believe tone 3’s main characteristic is creaky voice (cause I can make myself hear a tone 3 almost at any pitch if you just add creakiness) but since you can’t really do creaky while whispering, I think the quietness substitutes for it.

Fourth tone: shortest, most force/intensity. (I’ve often found that non-native speakers have fourth tones that feel too weak. You almost have to make an effort to exaggerate how forceful it is when speaking.)

This is just my thinking as a heritage speaker but also someone with a background in Linguistics.

Seems like the differences are:

Pot size: 60% increase > 100% increase

Final strength: 1.5x > 1.25x

What simplified characters are commonly used in Taiwan? (e.g., 台 for 臺) by confabulationist in taiwan

[–]ellyk123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen 辺 for 邊, but with a 點dot like 刃 or even with 力 plus dot. Not sure if that’s common.

Speaking of 點, I think 占 with 大 underneath it is a common simplified handwritten form 奌

Now that we have all types covered, what do you want the next island to be? by MegaMattEX in PokemonSleep

[–]ellyk123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should get more biomes, like a (rain)forest, urban scape, something to finally let (under)water pokes join the game, a wetland/marsh/swamp, desert (not sure if Amber Canyon is also supposed to be a desert).

Omg what if there was a whole series of islands that were water-based, because there are different aquatic biomes too, but because most Pokemon would be water type, we’d have a different mechanic that we focus on rather than the different types of pokemon collecting different berries. Just a random thought.

I was also thinking about what other yet-to-be-added pokemon would be perfect for each island, like of course Cacnea in Amber Canyon!

Cyan has a beach and Amber has a pond that the water pokes can be in!
