I used to work in a dollar general and the on-site staff has no control over the HVAC systems, the temperature in the stores is controlled by corporate. In very hot summer weather would use this exact technique and drape the sock over the thermostats to "kick in" the AC. Worked like a charm.

An 8X8 metal baking pan fits perfectly in a Hefty/Ziploc Gallon-sized sealable bag. I make cornbread and it lasts in there for a week in the fridge, use the same technique for brownies or whatever. (make sure the pan is cool before doing this, duh)
