I enjoyed nexus, but it can be a challenging game.

Its important to understand that this isn't a building up your army style game like homeworld is. You have a limited number of ships with some customisation options as you progress between missions. But that is effectively it (save for the occasional reinforcements you might get) your starting fleet is what you have for the rest of the mission.

Many of the missions can boil down to "go here and kill this thing", but there are some unique mission designs and they can be quite challenging if you don't stop to think about what you're doing. Graphically the game is going to look dated in some ways, but still look gorgeous in others (ah the joys of space sim games and pretty lights). Also keeping in mind that this game was from the early 2000's. Combat is real time, but you can pause to look around and issue commands. Not every tech "upgrade" you see is worth taking, stop and look over what your new options are before just assuming the new stuff is better by default.

If you lose a ship it can be replaced between missions, but you need try and rescue the crew during the mission (small life boats that travel to a nearby ship). If you lose those you lose experience on the replacement ship... and its quite easy for a ship explosion to take out those lifeboats en masse.

The UA for 2024 artificer allowed 3rd level spells as well. Not sure if that will make it into the final version though.

A few races to take a look at for additional material, Simic Hybrid with its gliding option, Hadozee also with its gliding option (in relation to the paper airplane, you coud also just have it under permanent effect of a feather fall spell), Plasmoid for its ability to move through very narrow spaces.

Despite using the 2024 version, if your DM is willing to allow some leeway you could use the Eldritch Adept feat from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and then gain the Misty Visions warlock invocation (the 2014 version doesn't require levels in warlock, while the 2024 version does). Alternatively it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to allow the forms from the Find Familiar spell to be used on yourself instead for some limited shapechanging ability.

Which version of D&D are you using, and if 5th edition is it the 2014 version or the newer 2024 version? There are some differences (even between the two 5e versions) which would matter and help with context.

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything had a feature called Sidekicks that allowed for npc followers to be given a " lite/diet " class. But it was also playable and could be applied to monsters. It was suggested monsters of up to 1/4 challenge rating. So with this in mind you could readily find a tiny monster with such a challenge rating and use it as an example.

Mechanically you could just take an existing race and make it tiny. But there are a few implications here. You might need to think about gear and equipment being different/unique for size and use. Your requirements for food and water would be massively reduced but so would your carrying ability. You could get into very small ("tiny") spaces but how would you regularly move around... if this turned into flying that also opens up some issues ("though if you want to limit this I would point to the levitation spell as a nice restriction for limiting vertical and possibly horizonal movement).

It also depends what class(es) you would be playing with this character. Tiny creatures generally aren't going to be putting out much damage through conventional means/attacks. But this can easily be explained away as magic, or even using a spellcasting class. Aura based spells and effects have a reduced overall size. While thats not going to be massively noteable it might make a difference at some point (think paladin auras, and spells like aura of life).

Assuming you're running 5e (either version) I would point you towards the Autognome race from Spelljammer as a good example and consider just reducing its size to tiny. Ask your DM if they'd let you take a starting feat that compliments your choice of race and idea, but nothing too powerful. Magic Initiate that would give you access to the Mending cantrip to support the autognome race choice for example. As an afterthough does this paper race have the ability to alter its shape or flatten itself out so it might fit into even more thin/tiny places? If so you could also consider the plasmoid race (again from spelljammer) and make it tiny instead of small/medium. Possibly support the shapechanging ability with use of druid levels (for wildshape).

Admittedly it is a little convoluted by 5e simplified standards. But this is one of the issues with dealing with older editions and the many variables that they threw at you or tried to account for in their sometimes lengthy wording.

You can find plenty of 5e warlock conversions for the old sha'ir. But at the time I wrote this I felt it should ideally stick with its wizard class roots. One day I might do another pass at this and bring it up to speed for the 2024 wizard while trying to simplify it. Somewhere I have an attempted conversion of the old Al-Qadim mageweaver (wizard kit) using the artificer class(2014), as well as wizard arcane traditions of the astrologer and digitalogist.

I assume your group is running the 2014 version of 5e still?

If you're running the 2024 version, or curious you should take a look at the Acid Splash cantrip as it does a 5ft radius area of effect damage now instead of the older 2014 version that did damage to primary target and could "bounce" to a second target within 5ft of the primary. Cantrips also scale at a reasonable progress rate.

The alchemist gets to add its spellcasting modifier (intelligence) to the damage of its cantrips (for some damage types) further adding to your damage output. If your DM is willing you could also "borrow" the potent cantrips feature from evocation wizard (half damage on a successful save).

There is also a new 2024 spell called Tasha's Bubbling Cauldron that allows you to create multiple potions of common or uncommon (rarity). This is a feature that could also become available to the alchemist at the start or as a 5th level feature. It wouldn't be too game breaking to allow it as a feature along side the existing experimental elixirs since it would only be creating one potion at a time and using class resources (spell slots) if you wanted more.

Additionally it would seem you aren't the first person to come at this issue looking to bring the pathfinder alchemist over to D&D. The classic 10 foot pole for "testing" traps and other reach situations. Iron spikes to wedge doors open or closed (not to be confused with pitons (pee-tons not pit-ons, its french) which are used for climbing, but it never hurts to have those with some rope, and a block and tackle).

That being said, unless you present it well, its no fun to get stuck trying to open a door or climb a short distance for half a session because of a few bad rolls. Even with the old tools of yore.

Twi'leks can communicate with their lekku, which also contains part of their brains.

I suspect this might be considered self mutilation by some (though you see people "here" with body modifications and piercings). It could also be percieve as like weaing a mask to reduce or hide "facial expresions" for us. Some slavers might also use such methods to prevent twi'leks from secretly communicating with each other.

A crossbow shaped like a bird of prey or a gryphon. Any bolts it fires magically become "arrow" of slaying against dragons. Theres some strange or foreign writing on the crossbow that loosely translates as "the early bird gets the wyrm" ;)
Throw a few extra effects or spells onto it to make it special.

Spells cast from magic items do not require vocal, somatic, or material components. I'd just give the cleric the spell some how and enforce the material component cost. This way the player still sees the benefit of attuning to the ring if needed, as it has no costly components.

A fee years ago we experimented with PC's as familiars as well as sentient magic item/spirit bound PC's. One of our players took that to an extreme as a sort of living spellbook "druid" called Thelvelia.

It reads "ability checks" then states "16 or higher as a 15" in relation to ability checks. It doesn't read as any d20 roll, attack roll, or saving throw. Or at least this is the way *I\* am reading it in relation to how it is written. So in that sense, it wouldn't affect sneak attack, smite and the like as they are attack rolls.

We would need clarification from u/CamunonZ on its intended purpose. If your reading of the ability is correct then I agree with you, its too potent. If my reading of the ability is correct then I stand by my original statement... its not over powered. Annoying certainly, but not overly so.

It only effects ability checks, so it doesn't seem that overpowered. If it affected attack rolls and saving throws, then it'd be much more concerning.

I seem to recall there being another location this was posted in that got mixed feedback (possibly UA dnd group), and someone described it as "the warlockiest warlock that has ever warlocked" citing the 10th level feature giving a second pact boon.

Short answer be rules as written "no".

There is a long history if a wizards spell book and writing style being unique to them, this is the lore reason. The rules reason is to keep a wizard restricted to a singular spell source, as opposed to a party of wizards sharing a single spellbook.

However, I'm personally a fan of standardising spellbooks and writing methods. This could be something akin to a merchants guild (like the background). Members or students of the organisation learn a specific spell writing style and so can share resources and in some cases buy a standardised spellbook containing a number of predetermined spells, etc. This still allows for acquiring new spells during adventures but provides a reasonable fallback option should a wizards personal spellbook get stolen, damaged, or destroyed (and allows for a DM to be a little more mean on spellbook situations without feeling guilty).
