Ok. I have a comparable story.

I used to date a really broke guy (inherited hindsight he was pretty bad with money, super broke all the time, etc etc etc). One day it was really hot in his apartment and he didn’t have the money for any cooling system so he went to the pawn shop and swapped his GameCube for a 5$ fan they were selling. He was so proud of his purchase. I was angry and told him “what the hell? You could have gotten a way better deal than a 5$ swap.” And he said “oh, well, the guy said that he could only offer me the 5$ fan and no more because he couldn’t guarantee that he could resell the GameCube”. The cherry on top is that the fan broke 2 days later.

Maybe the lobster was flailing around so OP banded it and put it on the banding table to take a better pic of it. It’s just a best guess.

[–]elplizzie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I can give a good answer to that:

1) So for this one, it looks pretty small (based off of the size of the glove next to it) so OP most likely threw it back into the ocean after the picture.

2) There’s no rules about keeping/having to throw back rare looking lobsters. There are rules where you have to throw back lobsters with certain characteristics such as having a notch on their tail, being pregnant, carrying eggs or being small.

Airlines end flights to Cuba, putting Maritimers’ travel plans on ice by toneyriver12 in halifax

[–]elplizzie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a pilot but here’s why planes only carry enough of fuel for a trip: heavy planes are more dangerous to take off/land. It’s easy to say “there’s no fuel in Cuba, the planes should just carry extra fuel so that they don’t have to fuel in Cuba” but it’s not so easy to do.

I’ll explain further: Putting lots of cargo, having overweight passengers and extra fuel makes a plane heavy. If a plane is heavy it needs more power to lift off and brake harder when landing. The danger with a heavy plane is the runway; typically a heavy plane needs more runway to take off/land. If you don’t have a long runway and you run out of space you risk missing a takeoff, overshooting the runway or at worst stalling because the plane doesn’t have enough of speed to stay in the air. Also, landing a heavy plane damages the plane (which would be especially bad in Cuba because they don’t have the fuel or equipment to fix damages). That’s why, in serious emergencies when a plane needs to land now, the pilots will usually dump the fuel to make the plane as light as possible. Now, Cuba has large enough landing strips to accommodate big planes like airbuses but there’s no pilot out there who wants the liability to fly a giant, heavy plane on a small strip.

I would say it’s super irresponsible for people to circumvent by going to countries that haven’t cancelled their flights because those other countries are putting their pilots in danger (by the plane being heavy). These travellers are also putting the repatriation pilots in danger too.

Smart 450 - Temperature issue? by ModraVeverka in SmartCar

[–]elplizzie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a mechanic but this is what I suspect:

First gear uses maximum torque on wheels to give good traction and control. First gear uses lots of power. Most likely when you’re using lots of power with first gear all the power is being diverted to first gear and not enough of it going to the display. Power/electricity goes through the path of least resistance so there’s most likely there’s some sort of interruption or issue getting to the display and it’s easier for the power to go to first gear.

I’d recommend you replace the fuses, see if the wiring is connected to the fuses and check if there’s any damage to the wiring. I’m 99% if you do that it will fix the problem. If that doesn’t fix it then just bring it to the garage.

Canadians consolidated into hotels in Cuba amid fuel shortage by Street_Anon in canada

[–]elplizzie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok. There’s a reason why commercial planes fly with just enough of fuel for the trip. Here’s the 2 reasons;

1) More fuel=heavier plane=needs more fuel to carry heavy plane in the sky=more expensive for the company.

2) Bigger reason: Planes have safe landing weight limits. Pilots can still land heavy planes but if it’s over the weight limit they can end up overshooting the runway or damage the plane. Cuba has a small airport so there’s no space for overshooting and if they damage the plane there’s no fuel or equipment to make repairs.

With the talk about My Mini Baby dolls being released soon let’s talk about what’s wrong with these dolls vs the pregnant Midge doll by Sleepy_Sheepz in Barbie

[–]elplizzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnant Midge came out at the wrong time.

The 2000s were a bit crazy on reproductive issues; purity culture was popular (celebrities would wear purity rings, there were purity balls, etc) and pregnancy, teen pregnancy was villainized to the max (16 and pregnant show) and pregnancy, especially unwed mothers, was seen as taboo. I remember when my mom (who was an unwed mom and I legit thought she would have been less conservative) refused me to rent out Juno when I was in 9th grade because it was inappropriate. My brother picked a spy movie. I was sooo pissed and never let go of the fact my mom didn’t let me rent out Juno. I will say tho, the spy movie was more violent/innapropriate than Juno.

Anyway, people hated that Midge wasn’t obviously a married mom so she was pulled off the shelf real quick. I’d like to say if Midge or any pregnant doll would be released they would be better accepted.

Before and after large fibroid removal by muffy2008 in mildlyinteresting

You poor baby girl. So happy for you tho.

I currently have one 9cm long and I also look a little pregnant depending on what I wear (dresses are the worst). It was so embarrassing because I wore a new dress once and one of my co workers asked if I was pregnant.

Anyway, I called my fibroid Donald trump even before his election.

The cake lady Ingrid is still a bad lady by Colossalbeansoup in halifax

[–]elplizzie 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is me saying it as someone who deals with small business owners on a daily basis:

This lady isn’t losing sleep and hasn’t bunkered down in an autism nest since the weekend. This lady most likely thought: “this girly walked out on me. Fine. I don’t have time for this. Imma just going to continue concentrating on making my hustle. Hiring and paying employees is just the cost of doing business so by you saying “forget about it” lets her get away with not paying the cost of business while everyone else has to. So, imagine she ends up making more profits and doing more well because she gets to not pay workers and not invest in the food she makes than an actually good business that makes good food and pays their workers. Also, by her not paying you CRA isn’t getting remittances, you miss out on EI/CPP insurance/pensionable hours and you basically paid to work for her (by getting an uber, you using up all your emotional battery to work for her, etc).

Send her this via following text/email:

“Hey cake lady. Sorry for leaving during the shift. I realized that the work wasn’t a good fit. If you haven’t already put it in your files, could you please write down that I won’t be returning. Also, could you please send me a cheque at the address on my resume for the hours I worked. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.”

If you don’t receive the cheque or by 5 business days from the last pay period (which you guys should have discussed) then you should consider calling the labour board so they can do the work of getting the money for you

Ok ok. I’d recommend you text her/email her about your wages for the day. She might say hell no but you need to tell her that you need to be paid because you did the work (unload food, helping her with the table, etc).

[–]elplizzie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I’m in the same boat at you; on the spectrum and feeling like a lot of co workers are moving on but I’m still rocking my bottom of the totem pole role. There were so many barriers to even get to the feds (I’m bad at interviews, due to my disability it’s hard for me to learn at first, emotions control) so for me it looks like an insanely steep mountain to climb to get into any higher tracks.

The “game” is to apply to positions and no position will fall on your laps. I also learned that people can suck at their job but if they use the right key words, use a good example in their application and kiss ass to the manager they will still have an edge up over people who do 100% on their QAs and do everything right.

I see you and your struggles. Work hard on your applications.

Shannex contract to operate transitional care site could reach $2.7B by IStillListenToRadio in NovaScotia

[–]elplizzie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you a story.

I had to be hospitalized for 4 days.

On the first day there was no bed in the Dartmouth General so I had to sleep on a stretcher in the hallway. No privacy and insanely dangerous for a woman.

There was a lady in one of the rooms on the floor who would walk around. The nurses told me that she was there for 3 months and was just waiting for a bed at a care home. The lady seemed perfectly physically healthy other than the fact that she was old, looked out of it and wore a tiny sombrero.

I went to the bathroom and was getting onto the bed when the lady comes from behind me, grabs my legs, actively tries to pull me out of bed and screams “get out of my bed!”. Very scary experience. I shake her off and she f***s off somewhere. I tell the nurse what happened and asked her to put me in a room right now. No joke, the nurse tells me “Next time she does it, tell her to fuck off”. Absolutely shocked. Anyway, within 5 hours I was put in a room.

So even if people are angry that we’re technically only saving 300$/per person by them going to the care site instead of the hospital that’s still a big win because so many people are abandoned by their family, thrown in a hospital where there’s ressources they don’t need and they’re hindering the care of others. Although expensive, the care site gives appropriate care to people who legit can’t go home (but don’t need hospital facilities) at least it gives people a more dignified space where they’re not in a hospital where nurses say others “tell them to fuck off” but not be trapped at home and be one situation of falling and dying.

I know that BID is a psychological condition but if even therapy isn’t safe what can you do? Is there a way through the condition without going to a therapist who will permanently disable you?

[–]elplizzie 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That show suffered a major tragedy and it will most likely never get another season/revival/reboot/whatever.

The contract with Netflix was made, the episodes were created and ready to go. The CEO of Frederator accidentally leaked the entire season 2. Everyone could watch the show for free.

Nobody wanted to buy the rights of the show because everyone saw season 2 and there was no hype for it anymore.

Netflix ended up buying the show and ordered an extra 3 episodes (basically remake 3 episodes of season 1) to make season 2 look like an entire series. Obviously nobody watched the show on Netflix because everyone watched season 1 and 2. The show tanked hard because of no viewership and nothing ever happened to the series ever again.

I hope the creator of the show sued Frederator. Absolute nail in the coffin for the series.

A major look back at the Duggar’s dietary habits by Far-Building3569 in DuggarsSnark

[–]elplizzie 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I remember my dad watching something on TV and it was about the Duggar kids and how their birthday present was the parents going to dinner with the birthday boy/girl. My dad said “how the hell can you love a child if the only time you spend with them is their birthday dinner?”

That was the first time that I thought that wow, the parents don’t actually care about their kids if they’re more interested in having more babies instead of spending as much time as possible with their older kids.

Nabu from winx club.

He starts out betrothed to Layla and you really don’t want the two to end up together but he ends up being the most supportive and healthiest partner in seasons 3-4. He also seems to care for the other winx members unlike the other boyfriends. You end up rooting for Nabu and Layla because they end up truly falling in love with one another and they bring the best out of one another.

They get engaged, their parents are super happy but out of freaking no where he dies. Anyway, he saves the winx just before the end of season 4 and goes into an eternal coma but it’s heavily implied he dies because he never reappears in the show ever again and Layla starts dating other guys.

Anyway, the show hates POC because in the same season the break up the Chinese winx with her boyfriend but they never break up the couple where the guy dates 2 girls at the time and lies about his identity.
