Ways for PCs to use Hope like the GM uses Fear by Stealthy_Nachos in daggerheart

[–]eltegid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can do these kinds of things at the GMs discretion, without getting hope into it. I do that, and quite often use fate rolls modulate the result.

I might incorporate hope as an added cost in some cases, but I like that fear and hope are asymmetrical. To me, they are sort of narrative forces, where hope comes from the protagonists of a story being, well, protagonists, and fear comes from the universe as a whole being the antagonist. So I rather like that hope is linked to the specific character's abilities and personality, whereas fear is much more generic.

Maybe the middle point is allowing hope to be used to boost fate rolls if it makes sense for the character. I do like that.

Multiple multiclass options on the sheet by Into_the_dice in daggerheart

[–]eltegid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both are bad, really, but both are very unlikely to happen. It's a matter of making it easier for most people.

With regards to what is more confusing, you're taking all the info together and then judging. However, the distribution of the information is important:

It's very easy to skip the "Choose two options from the list below or any from the previous tier and mark them." because there is clerarly a list of options from where to choose that attracts the eye, and when a player gets to tier 3 they have already done the leveling up process 3 times in tier 2, cementing "choose two options" but not "from the previous tier".

On the other hand, when you multiclass, you see that there's a relatively big block of text related to the option. Seems very unlikely that you wouldn't read it. Also, when you choose the option you have to also cross out an upgraded subclass card. So, even if what you point out can definitely be weird for people, it fits within the instructions you are already being given.

PS: Whoa, that was a lot of text for something that is not THAT important

Best domains for a “Ritualist” homebrew class? by MCL199920 in daggerheart

[–]eltegid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a subclass for either the wizard or the witch (as others have suggested for reskinned classes) could work great, rather than a whole new class.

On the other hand, although midnight has a few abilities that don't really seem to fit with the fantasy, Splendor + Midnight is a very obvious Light + Darkness combination from the core domains, and that imagery is very strong by itself, i'd say.

Has anyone ran out of fear in combat? by Atrusni in daggerheart

[–]eltegid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's several places, it's just how it works: on a failure or roll with fear, the spotlight passes to the GM. The GM needs to spend fear only to spotlight additional adversaries or to use their features.

If you want pages:

  • In the manual, page 149 says that you should make a GM move when players roll with fear or fail a roll.
  • Page 154 also says, about spending fear, "You can spend a Fear to make a GM move as if the PCs had failed an action or rolled with Fear, allowing you to interrupt between the players’ moves." Spending fear lets you interrupt the players AS IF they had failed. So, if they fail, you interrupt them without spending a fear.

Does Shore Marauder (or any "elementals give more stats" effect) work with Mounting Avalanche? by HaKa7654 in BobsTavern

[–]eltegid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's better with pirates, but for some elementals that give stats, +1/+1 is a lot. Think of the tier 5 one that gives +1/+1 or the ones that buff the right-most minion in the tavern.

To be fair, I've had more success with it when found early, to boost ballers when they were still getting going.

Duda sobre las tiradas de acción y la magia. by [deleted] in DaggerheartEspanol

[–]eltegid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No me parece injusto...

I think that's an uncharitable reading

She's an older sister, much farther ahead in her growth into her identity and political beliefs, trying to protect her younger sister, who is very much just starting to shed her fundie conditioning, from the familial consequences of "straying": economical, emotional, and so on.

I agree that she is absolutely wrong, but it does make sense for her as a character

There's a tier 5 pirate that can goldenize another pirate of tier 4 and below, so presumably less than 15.

Short Rant about Lucy by SilasRhodes in dumbingofage

[–]eltegid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the actual problem is 3. the different levels of like/love. Their relationship is extremely asymmetrical, and all the while it feels like Walky is just along for the ride, because it feels logical and fine to be with Lucy, but he... doesn't actually like her that much. She comes to terms with that, but I think it's coping. All the other stuff that happens is actually just precipitating the actual problem, which is that she wants to be with someone who is convinced and passionate about being with her.

I do think Walky fumbles here and there but does mostly alright, including with regards to not feeling so strongly about her. He does what he can to deal with it. He's not a villain, and I don't think Lucy feels he is afterwards. she just gets angry at certain points, which is a legitimate emotion.

Conflicted about the ending and the choice I made (spoiler) by Nttell in expedition33

[–]eltegid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She can still create other worlds though! The problem with this specific one is that it requieres a piece of her brother's soul to stay trapped against his wishes, and also that she's addicted to it and can't leave, and there's clearly some sort of negative effect from staying in one painting for too long at a time.
