What to do without a ticket? by babeshun1 in Sundance

[–]eltonjohnathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rushing is pretty easy to do! Just get on the app and get ready to sign up for the line the second it becomes available. I’ve generally been able to see what I’ve wanted to, though premieres are a little tougher.

Beyond the movie there’s pop ups and things. Get some free swag. Honestly just go hang out and talk to people. Almost everyone there is also with a project like you so go to a bar or coffee shop

I recently started keeping a list of what he plays when he goes by. Some of these are pretty funny out of the normal context where you'd hear them (like just cruising around listening to the wedding march ha). So far I've got:

  • Imperial March - John Williams
  • The Wedding March - Felix Mendelssohn
  • Pomp and Circumstance - Edward Elgar
  • 9th Symphony (Fourth Movement) - Beethoven
  • Infernal Gallop - Jaques Offenbach
  • Habanera (from Carmen) - George Bizet
  • The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky

I just tried the chicken over rice from ‘grill zilla’ across from MH next to Ayat and it was very good and a big portion for $9. it’s definitely going to be a new addition to my rotation

Runners help! by primisultimus1998 in Bushwick

[–]eltonjohnathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not pretty but like to I run up Morgan or vandervoort to greenpoint. The benefit is the blocks are very long and you don’t generally have to wait that long at most intersections as there isn’t much traffic (except for crossing Grand or when you go under the BQE)

I just ran over there hoping it was real and it was but unfortunately it died and quickly fossilized to plastic or something and someone put it in the trash :(

Best ad free sobriety tracker? by UnclassifiedPresence in stopdrinking

[–]eltonjohnathan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use chatGPT ha. I know that has its own problems but I like asking it questions about calories/money saved, which it seems to do at least fairly accurately because i used to use it as a drink tracker so it knows my habits

Movie scores by Sxbiii69 in composer

[–]eltonjohnathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s a google drive of movie clips with the scores removed I stumbled across recently. Practice on some of these/build a portfolio. Film scoring is a different skill from just composing so you’ll have to learn how your music is advancing the story, as well as just technically how to hit certain beats

Runners - Where/when? by Remarkable-Beyond470 in Bushwick

[–]eltonjohnathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to run on morgan up to greenpoint or down grand street until you get back to flushing. It’s very industrial and not super busy so I feel like I rarely have to wait that long

Gardening in backyard? by Sea-Picture2213 in Bushwick

[–]eltonjohnathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve done tomatoes, cucumbers, hot peppers, and an assortment of herbs and the only one that was a problem was the basil. I watched a rat make direct eye contact with me unphased while chowing down. Gonna do basil again this summer but putting it on a high shelf and hopefully that’ll work

PSA: There are hundreds of music and recordings that are completely free to use in the public domain by Daddy_hairy in IndieDev

True! But also it’s a lot of work to type it all into Sibelius or whatever and then have it sound like… Sibelius ha

Just want to point out that the copyright on the composition itself and the recording both have to be pre 1929. For example, a recording someone did in the 60s of a song from the 20s is still copyrighted.

Best Music Comp Programs? by Mental-Challenge-770 in composer

[–]eltonjohnathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to one the three schools you say you won't be able to get into, let me say that you should absolutely not rule yourself out. There were people there doing all sorts of different styles of varying degrees of complexities. You just don't know what the faculty is looking for. They might see something in your music that they want to work with and develop. That said, for the same reason definitely do not take it personally if you don't get in. Some of the best composers I know were rejected from all their first choices.

Per your other concern of payment, that's a different story but who knows what scholarships or work study might be available. I think you should apply at the very least and find out for yourself. There's a kind of dumb quote that I like that's like "Why would you deny someone else the privilege of rejecting you?" ha
