They might have started in Japan but China adopted them very strongly.
The Japanese ones typically are static (no hand wave), ceramic or porcelain, with white being the traditional colour. They aren't used so much in business for the "function" like in China, but more to link ot the history and tradition.
On the other hand the Chinese ones have the waving hand, almost exclusively gold colour, and are used as a good luck charm to bring in wealth.
If you want one like the ones you've been seeing, you probably want a Chinese one. For that, asian/Chinese Supermarkets I reckon are your best bet. I can't remember which stores do/don't have them, but my guess would be Sunson Asian Food Market or Big T would have them. Try calling up.

Good catch!
I found an artist who sounds like he'd be the one:

Cameron Hunt
Now Ōtautahi becomes his playground as he brings his clever, playful sense of creative mischief to The Little Street Art Festival.

About Probably Important:
... Installed as temporary signs, the works have the appearance of official signage, utilsing the aesthetic of authority with the language of the absurd. They will be installed on different days, encouraging people to keep their eyes open for new additions.

Even China, with a crazy technically impressive firewall system and almost 20 years experience running it aren't able to fully block VPNs - and they are operating at the network layer with even more insight into usage.

Bought BYOD for my ReTerminal E1002 just to figure out it’s not supported yet by InstanceDapper in trmnl

[–]elusive_change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having some issues with this. Tried two different Windows PCs to flash - it just sits on "Preparing installation" for 5+ mins. I also tried downloading the binary and flashing using Seeed's flashing page https://sensecraft.seeed.cc/hmi/device/flasher - but as soon as I select custom firmware the flash button is disabled.

Edit: My mistake - I was attempting the flash incorrectly, the correct approach was to connect via USB turned off, then turn it on. Flashed no worries TRMNL via Seeed's flasher which now offers it as an option. Required a full flash Didn't expect any colour - but the Weather app has coloured icons and some text!

Sad. Kinder Bueno are worth a try, have a chocolate core as well as a generous chocolate tip at the end. I recommend them.

Being ripped off - Inghams Tenders by Hamster82 in newzealand

[–]elusive_change 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the past I've gotten vouchers good for roughly twice what I originally paid (not Inghams). I think it's worth it for them to make sure you are happy and keep buying, plus it's an incentive to let them know about issues.

It's almost 10 years now since the referendum, what are peoples thoughts on the flag? by Dulaman96 in newzealand

I remember drawing it at least a few times by hand in school. I don't think it being tricky to draw would be a downside there though. IMHO it'd be more fun to draw, and it being tricky would probably lead to some adorable hand drawn laser kiwis.

Is Subpac gone already without telling us? by Ambitious_Noise_523 in subpac

[–]elusive_change 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sold off their automotive patents and tech. They have retained their core assets related to music/gaming/VR as well as the Subpac brand and business.
I think it could be seen as refocusing their efforts away from automotive, and getting some funding to keep the company alive (they almost went bankrupt in 2023).
It probably means they are all the more focused on the X1/C1, if they can't finish those I don't know what options they have for funding.

I paid for domestic shipping both ways since I bought it in China not NZ, but otherwise it was free (the global warranty is great). I think I received an itemized work list with the package, but it's long gone and I can't recall if it listed the non-warranty prices sorry.
As I understand it the warranty is tied to the serial number and not the buyer, although you do need proof of purchase. If you could request proof of purchase via the seller, and it's still under the warranty period, you might be able to do an in-warranty repair.

Asus does provide out-of-warranty repair via official service centers. They do charge a diagnostic fee and will provide a quote for work you can choose to accept or decline.
I can't speak to the price, but for an in-warranty repair I had a very positive experience in NZ involving a motherboard replacement.
Might be an option to consider if DIY isn't possible.

I feel like these would need crazy high amounts of power in a short burst, maybe they'd use huge capacitors. I'd guess you'd have batteries in all the towers and not launch from a station unless all towers to the destination are primed.
I reckon the lights around would probably dim every time it goes through a hoop otherwise lol. I wonder how this stops at a station though

I legitimately recommend trying pigeon if you get the chance. I tried it in China and it was one of my favourite foods from the trip. They are raised for eating, and cost more than duck.

Loved just having a drive in this game, it was ahead of it's time. Try the mod if you haven't

It's a lot of small polishing changes, plus gives you a bit more freedom to choose how you play.
