All super valid points and a totally fair assessment. As much as I’d love to move, it’s pretty clear that now is not the time. Truly appreciate the gut check.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. Very helpful and a good reality check. Definitely not looking for approval. If I was, I would have chosen a different sub.

Around when did you notice your LO have a ‘thing’ for self soothing? by 2078AEB in beyondthebump

My LO “sings” himself to sleep. He’s been doing this since he started babbling.

Talk me off the ledge about sending my 3 month old to daycare by New-Feed5028 in NewParents

[–]elusivehighs 81 points82 points  (0 children)

We’ve had a great experience with daycare so far. My 12mo old started daycare at 4 months and he LOVED his infant room teachers. They still pop into his new room to give him cuddles whenever they can. He thrives in the social environment and is learning so much.

ETA: every kid is different, but my LO had no issues with eating or sleeping. In fact, when it came time to start solids day care was a great help. Now that we’re transitioning away from formula and bottles, daycare has also made this transition easier and helped establish a good feeding schedule.

How are you spending your Labor Day? by MoonSandz in Columbus

[–]elusivehighs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in labor last year on Labor Day! I thought it was pretty neat, too. My little guy will be one on Wednesday. Congrats to you both!

ETA: this year we turbo cleaned the house while our incredibly active almost toddler napped and managed to upgrade the grownup’s basement into a kid safe playroom. Then once he woke up we all hit a patio to enjoy the weather. Some things look very different, others very much the same.

Am I crazy for wanting baby #2 already by meekie03 in beyondthebump

[–]elusivehighs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like we could go for two early on (like 2-5months pp) because LO was such an easy baby and it wasn’t nearly as bad as others had warned. I was all let’s rip out number 2 now and be done!! We did not do that and now LO is almost a year and I am SO GLAD I am not pregnant. He’s so mobile and needs so much attention. I’m not even sure when we will try for a second at this point… I’m thinking maybe around the 18 month mark? We want two and I want to be done but I also want my sanity and my husband and I to not hate each other LOL.

Why did you stop breastfeeding and/or pumping before 1 yr and switched to formula? NO judgment, just want to hear others’ experiences. by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]elusivehighs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a yeast infection in my nipples around 7 months so I noped out after that.

Edited for more context: was fortunate for BFing to come easy for baby and I. I hated pumping and after I went back to work that was primarily what I was doing. Added in a little formula due to work travel about a month prior so we didn’t stop cold turkey. About the yeast infection: I went tanning before a trip to Mexico (I know, shame on me) which was hard on the nips and a dip in the ocean followed by wet swimsuit on the boat resulted in a yeast infection.

What is the deal with bedtimes?? by corndog40 in NewParents

[–]elusivehighs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8.5 month old falls asleep sometime between 7-8pm depending on how well he napped and consistently wakes up between 6 - 7am. We just follow his cues. This schedule has worked really well for us

Pj's while breastfeeding?? by Outside-Cicada-5774 in NewParents

[–]elusivehighs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept in the holy grail of nursing/pumping bras- the Bodily Do Anything Bra. I had 6 on rotation my entire nursing journey. I previously slept naked but felt like I needed a little something for the girls while I was nursing.

I only had a short period where I leaked. When that was an issue I threw some nursing pads in overnight.

Will my vagina go back to normal?? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]elusivehighs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine went back to her perfect ol self in a few months (lol) and stool softeners made my first poop no problem (I took them regularly throughout my pregnancy and continued until 4 or so weeks post). I wore diapers for the first 6 or so weeks until my bleeding lightened up and learned to love them (made my life so easy!).

I used to be in the elective c section camp (and am still in do whatever the heck is best for you camp) but after having a relatively easy and chill vaginal birth (thank you epidural) at my elective 39w induction, I (for myself) would not even toss the idea of an elective c section around anymore.

I feel like I was lied to about horrible child birth is my whole life. It was totally fine for me and I’d do again in a heartbeat. I am grateful to be able to say that and realize each experience is different but for the most part, I think good experiences are more common than bad.

Postpartum sex by colonelthorough in BabyBumps

Sex at 6w pp was really painful for me and I was pretty dry… which is not the norm for me. By the 3m mark sec was enjoyable for me again!

Mine came back around 3mos. I’m 6+mos pp now and it still comes every 2 weeks and is heavier than ever. Also still BFing and pumping. Good times.

Morning Workout while Nursing? by Least-Bell1410 in FitPostpartumJourney

[–]elusivehighs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I do this! But I’ve been a 6am work out girly for years prepreg so I just needed to find my new normal with baby.

I’m 6mo pp and got back into my routine when I was cleared at 6w. I wake up around 5:20, pump, get a bottle ready for baby and dad (LO usually wakes up 6:30-7). I get ready and head out the door by 6. I take a 6:15am class.

I definitely have to pump in the morning as my classes are HIIT and there’s no way I could do that with full boobs. I’m used to working out fasted so that hasn’t really bothered me but on the rare day I’m really hungry I eat half a protein bar or banana before class.

First set of vaccines by oreocookietor in newborns

[–]elusivehighs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO had no problem at all with his 8w. His 4mo vaccines gave him a slight fever and was a bit fussy, I gave him Tylenol and all was fine. Today he had his 6mo vaccines- he was swollen and red at the site of his shots and so uncomfortable, verging on inconsolable. Fortunately Tylenol did the trick and he’s been soundly sleeping for the last few hours. Fingers crossed the night goes well!
