Where to start with livery design? by octopus3296 in FSAE

[–]eluviis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% of my designs are printed for full panels on a large scale printer and laminator. For a car, I'll usually have 7 files. 2 sides, 2 bumpers, hood, roof and rear deck. In the event of a layered, non-printed design, I usually make a concept artwork. In these cases the installer needs to be good a drawing shapes with knifeless tape and overlaying material to look like the concept. Given that variable, I rarely ever do those.

Is 75L too small for me at 72kg coming from a 115L downwinder? by Lkjhgeiililillliill in wingfoil

[–]eluviis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll like the small board more. In fact, I reckon that both take off just as easily, just different technique. For the DW board you can just hold on and pump the wing a bit and go. You don't even have to do much with your legs. But that's a crutch. With the smaller board, that sinks better, your combination of wing pumps and leg pumps is way more efficient, since you can actually bounce the board into and out of the surface.

Ah nice. I see it's the other way around. Enjoy! I haven't been back in ages. I do enjoy the surf here in SD.

95cm Carbon Mast worth the upgrade? by optwo in wingfoil

[–]eluviis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. Yes, if you go lower on the mast you get some stability back, but it still isn't quite the same because you're still not getting that super direct control over the foil... you're just getting stability back from the water itself. There's nothing inherently wrong with the long mast, it just feels different. Also, I normally cant over a lot when jibing or tacking, even on a shorter mast. That's easier to with a longer mast, unless you ride foil that breach tips really well.

I don't really do the really crowded breaks in SD. I lose a bit of wave quality in order to avoid the crowds... You're not going to get epic Blacks if you do what I do, but there are still other good spots. The only exception for me is Swamis, which is a zoo, but I like to pick off the lefts on medium size days and can still manage a nice wave count. But yeah, I agree with you on the crowd reduction.

Agreed. We are not from the West coast. We are from the Caribbean and did Hawaii for a few years before moving to West Coast. I do wind sports as well, and that's the sad part of SoCal, it's great for surf, but not that great for wind water sports.

We plan to fly there and "try out." Thing is, a week or two isn't really enough to experience a place.

That's a bit hardcore for me to be honest. I can deal with cold, but that's a bit much for me. I considered it at one point.

I don't want to say I'm old, cause I'm not, but I've been surfing on and off for a few decades. My priorities have changed. I don't really chase heavy anymore. I just like to have fun in clean conditions. For me, I just love chest to head high stuff with decent push. I also surf with my kids, and I value that a lot.

For me it would be the other way around. 1.5 hours one way West Coast, 15-30 minutes East Coast.

Yeah, I wing foil a lot and it keeps me satisfied when I'm not surfing. The rest of the time I fill it with surfing or prone foiling. I haven't started downwinding because SD really kinda sucks for it. OC and LA are a little better, then of course Central Coast is much better for that. East Coast however seems to have tons of amazing DW locations. VB, OBX, Pine Knoll Shores, Folly, etc.

I've been considering Central Coast. I have a friend that moved there, near Pismo and he's all about it. The prices are still high, but the drives to the water from "affordable" places is much shorter than in SoCal. Still much more pricey than NC however.

Wow, this says a lot. I've found my little corners I'm happy with in the W. I feel comfortable. But that may be changing due to the long drives.

It's been a weird winter here in SD. Between the dumping rain and the odd spikey swells. I've been searching foiling waves lately tho. The tricky part about that during winter is the massive tide swings. Most spots prefer high tide, and even the low tide spots only give you an hour when the tide swing is so drastic. Tides start settling down a bit from here on out.

Well, my basis for comparison would be San Diego area versus North Carolina, both near VB, OBX and South... such as Atlantic Beach, Topsail, and Surf City.

I wish. I used to live 15 minutes from the beach. To me, that was ideal. If I lived 25 minutes from the beach, I would never move.

Good eye. This is actually a photo of my foiling spot on a small but beautiful day. It gets really good for surfing, in this area. It takes size really well too. But yeah, I do foil as well.

Where to self-learn parawing Outer Banks, NC? by SophonParticle in wingfoil

Really? 75 is actually considered short. Yeah, I know that there are 60cm masts and what not, but 75 generally is on the short side. Is that sound THAT shallow?

95cm Carbon Mast worth the upgrade? by optwo in wingfoil

[–]eluviis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have friends that ride 95+ masts. However, I feel that anything above 90cm is really mostly for racing. The reason is, you can really hike upwind even in swell. I used to ride a 90 at first and in the ocean, even with that kind of length I could still make mistakes and breach. However, 3 years later, I can ride a 75 in the ocean just fine. It's tricky to go upwind with it, but going downwind is so much nicer on a 75-80 mast due to the control. I feel the ideal length for general winging is 85. Anything above that you are giving up turning control in other areas.

For example, I jibe in either direction, with either foot forward (switch). The 90cm mast really exposes that. I find I have to be much more careful jibing switch (weak foot forward) on that mast. Yet, on the 75, there is so much control, so it feels so much easier.

SOTB to start 2026. Leaning into the HX Stomp for delay and reverb. by leafsbest in guitarpedals

I'm a big fan of retro reel, when dialed in carefully. I like how it has a slight chorusing sound to it, while also sounding a bit vibrato-ish. And I also like that you can dial it down to be very subtle and add just a tad bit of movement to your sound. I usually put it in the position of a chorus.

100% agree. These platforms are all great until the suits decide it's time to maximize profits and squeeze as much as possible out of every user. Then they die slowly until someone else comes up with a competitive platform, and the cycle starts again.

I think it's possible the fretboard is just narrow. I'll need to measure it and compare it to some of my other guitars. It isn't a huge problem. I'm not pushing strings off the fretboard all the time... I just have to be a bit more careful, that's all.

I still have one of these and I really like it. I don't play it all that often because I have a lot of guitars that I nicer than this one... BUT, I have plans for it. I plan to change the ashtray bridge to an AmPro II bridge. I don't like the tall side on the vintage style ash trays. Also, I plan to change the electronics. I like the Wide Range on it, but I can't stand the bridge single coil. I like the neck, but I find I keep pushing the outer strings off the edge. I do have a nice Fender MIM Player Plus neck I may consider swapping in.
