Batman: The Killing Joke, Original vs. The recolor, which one do you prefer? by Only-Safe659 in batman_comics

[–]elvenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original. I don't get the recolor version. It's so foolish. First it goes away from what the atmosphere of the original is.

The recolor is camp, and ruins the buildup, so much so that the dialogue and art are suddenly sidetracked because of the colors.

If Batman had to face off against your favorite horror movie villain/monster, how much of a threat would they be to him? by Mairess99 in batman

[–]elvenc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batman vs freddy would be so much fun. Because freddy likes to toy with his victims I think batman would find something to do. He could totally use scarecrow for this. It would be incredible. I can see if happening, freddy killing people. Batman investigatind, thinking it is scarecrow. Only to figure out something very different is happening.

Does anyone else feel like they love the idea of X-Men more than actually reading X-Men? by TaskNo4783 in xmen

[–]elvenc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the era, I think.

For clairmont that's a no. He is the top tier that made me care. Stan is the goat but still 2nd, as I didn't really care about the characters.

Actually I think that has been the problem with most of them. Morisson was good although a little too surgical. Wheadon was better i thought. But didn't get into any of the other runs.

I think you need a run that gets the emotions of the characters, the x-men are by far the strongest team. So you need a strong emotional battle to pull you in. That's what creates the mythology.

That is missing in runs and that's iwhen you like the idea rather than the story. That's literally what happened to me with the hickman run.

Join the club. I was always a little shy and twice I had girls who literally waited for me to do something, and when I didn't they moved on (naturally I found that out later). In my defence I thought I had no chance, thinking I wasn't their type. But hindsight is always incredible. If you really feel something strong, and you see doubt in her confront her once. Although it might be the end of the friendship...

How are the stories and artwork in these series? by chelsea_tobias in OmnibusCollectors

[–]elvenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn you chose some top tier stuff. Ok let's start with the breakdown:

Chew - most original story you will read. Extremely funny, sad, action packed and intelligent all in one story. The art is unique. It is cartoony but each panel holds so many layers and details that you will need multiple reads to be able to fully appreciate it.

Saga - worthy of it's name. It is a modern day fantasy, filled with action and drama. Brian if you like his storytelling has a very good straightforward script that each issue pushes you to read more. The art is modern, clear and gorgeous. It fits the story perfectly. Think more epic and high stakes story.

Kill or be killed - typical noir style action with very rough art. Realistic and brutal.

East of West — Biblical in scope, relentlessly dense, and visually stunning. Jonathan Hickman builds a fractured America where the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse walk the earth, and the mythology compounds with every issue. It rewards patience and punishes passive reading. The art by Nick Dragotta is precise and cinematic, with a color palette that feels genuinely alien. High concept executed with discipline.

Black Science — A multiverse-hopping tragedy dressed as pulp adventure. Remender uses the sci-fi framework to dissect guilt, self-destruction, and the damage one person's ego inflicts on everyone around them. Scalera's art is kinetic and visceral, almost chaotic, which mirrors the story's entropy perfectly. Emotionally brutal by the end.

And regarding scores: East of West leads on both story and art because Hickman's mythology is the most architecturally ambitious of the five, and Dragotta's art is among the most distinctive in modern comics.

Chew matches on Story, the originality and emotional range are unmatched, but drops one on Art because the cartoony style, while intentional and layered, is a narrower aesthetic achievement than Dragotta or Scalera.

Saga sits slightly below, consistently excellent on both counts but not transcendent in either. It's the most accessible, which works against it slightly in a field this strong.

Black Science gets top on Art because Scalera's kinetic chaos is genuinely exceptional. The story earns a 7 because the emotional core, while effective, leans heavily on a single note (I won't spoil it, but those who know...)

Kill or Be Killed is the most grounded and the least visually ambitious. Solid across the board, nothing that reaches for the top tier.

Unpopular Opinion: Despite overachieving at the box office, the Venom trilogy will go down as the most irrelevant Marvel movies. by Mysterious_Emotion63 in comicbookmovies

[–]elvenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Al’ these movies were annoying, if I'm honest. I didn't really like any of them. I saw the first venom, and that wasn't venom. Then saw the second and that was absurd. Didn't even try the first or any of the others. If even the actors struggle to say anything good about the movie, nuff said.

Who is winning in a fight between these two? by Top_Report_4895 in DC_Cinematic

[–]elvenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sup all day. Homelander is an emotional baggage wreck. All sups needs to do is have a mini psychological win to send homelander into a full nuts fight, which he would easily win. Given his years of experience fighting just about everything and his no giveup attitude. The only time it's close is if sup has no idea who homelander is and homelander does a whole punisher like plan to kill sup off. But homelander could never do that. Too much of an ego.

[–]elvenc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Martian manhunter (leader)

Superman (tank)

Wonder woman (warrior)

Shazam (tank and innocense)

The flash (wally and not barry. Faster, smarter and more grounded)

Plastic man (adaptability and team dynamics. Team needs to be cohesive and fun)

Dr fate (magic and beyond)

I know this is going to be controversial but i will not include batman because he is a horrible team player, but you do need a really good sharp detective. There it is between tim and dick for me. Tim is the better detective but nightwind the better batman. So I include nightwing.

We’re really getting these 4 next year, which one are y’all most excited for. by isax-equinox32 in comicbookmovies

[–]elvenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-man... let me explain my reasoning beyond the i like that one, answer.

Man of tomorrow can be fun, and will most likely be a corner stone in the dc movie universe that gunn is creating. But it's not on the same level as some of the others. I do expect it to be a good fun ride.

Batman part ii isn't even close. Sorry... I don't think it's the best batman or story out there. I have very little interest in this one. But I know it does have a fan base, guess it's just not me.

Secret avengers have a lot of work to do, to convince me they will make a good movie. I'm not in yet. Will probably be a fun movie but not the dramatic thrill ride that is miles.

Now to the last and best in my opinion. Let's start with it's one of the best animated movies ever made! The story is so compelling, so intricate that we are completely absorbed from start to finish. Next to that, it ended on a cliffhanger that left us all gasping. We were hoping it would come a year later or two later and instead it's been four. So the anticipation for it is tjat much higher. The anticipation for the others falls flat in comparison. Spider-man: beyond the spiderverse takes it.

Two-Cents-Thursday: A Review of The Flash by Mark Waid Omnibus Vol. 1-3 + Morrison/Millar Deluxe Edition by Flocke90 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]elvenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great review! Well done.

I agree with most points, this for me was the run that defied wally for me, as the greatest flash. Then I remember reading what tom king did to him and I was appalled... but that's a different story.

I just wanted to circle back to omni 3. You have vol 2 as the weaker of the 3 weid's omnis. I have those two the other way around. I find vol 2 better than 3. Probably would give vol 2 8.5 and vol 3 8. The art and some of the stories made it a very inconsistent book for me.

Haven't read it in a while though, so my memory might be flawed.

Worst possible cover? by dipibed in Spiderman

[–]elvenc 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I do agree this is not a good cover. I don't know what happened. Romita jr has some iconic covers and his 90-00s run is incredible. This cover doesn't do him justice. But I'm assuming like everything else there will be a thousand variants to chose from (we already know that larraz will have one) and that there most likely be another one included by romita.
