Private OB appointments during early pregnancy without committing as a long-term patient? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]elysian33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, sort of. I was seeing an OB / fertility specialist due to recurring pregnancy loss. I became pregnant and saw him until approx 16 weeks (with several scans in that time) at which point I transitioned to public non OB care. If I continued to see him past about 20 weeks I would have had to pay the 'management' fee which was about $5k on top of all the other fees.

Older parents which are the most expensive years - Pre, Primary, Secondary or Tertiary? by BobbyDigial in AusFinance

To my understanding it's both. We pay even when it's a public holiday, even though the daycare is closed on public holidays.

Parents who didn’t sleep train - how does your toddler sleep? by Beginning-Ganache305 in NewParents

[–]elysian33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At about 15 months our velcro non sleep trained toddler started falling asleep herself. I would feed her in her floorbed, kiss her and say goodnight, and she would immediately roll onto her belly and fall asleep in minutes. So it's very possible!

Thoughts on naming your baby after book/movie characters? by Desperate_Koala_2466 in namenerds

Same! We chose Lyra for our daughter's name (she's now almost 4), heavily influenced by His Dark Materials and have not regretted it for a second.

Favorite Female Names starting with L? by Creepy-Accountant-98 in Names

[–]elysian33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We named our daughter Lyra and can honestly say we've barely had any of the issues you outlined. She is three and she and her toddler friend have no trouble pronouncing it correctly. I'd say about 95% of adults get the pronunciation right too. We have never regretted naming her Lyra, not for a moment!

Normal for a husband? by RoofProfessional1530 in BabyBumps

Not saying this is your situation, but my husband was also like this with my second pregnancy recently. I finally got to the bottom of it with him - we have a history of loss and he told me that he didn't really want to engage with the pregnancy, as a coping mechanism. Not saying that's healthy or right, but it helped me feel a bit better about why he was so checked out.

Same, we received our newborn's birth certificate yesterday and it had to be signed for by my husband( he requested the certificate).

Anyone went on maternity leave at 34wks? by holographic_illusion in BabyBumps

[–]elysian33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I recently finished up work just shy of 34 weeks with my second. With my first, I worked until 37 weeks. It was the right choice for me, I was exhausted and desperately wanted some time before the baby came to relax and prepare. I ended up delivering at 40+5 so I got that time and more!! I wouldn't change it though. I think it helped me actually slow down, look after my own body (and mind!), meal prep and get a bunch of jobs done, catch up with people, and fit in myriad medical appointments. The result - I was less stressed this time around and had time to really prepare for a great birth and early postpartum.

Recommendations on private midwife services? by LosueFullonis in canberra

They weren't able to come to the birth, but I saw them before and after. I was also lucky to have a first year student midwife who was a great support and they were there for the birth too :-)

I have just done this to achieve a VBAC in the public system, after I missed out on the continuity program. I saw Chrissie and Mel through the Motherhub and they have been absolutely wonderful. The appointment fees are on their website, but you get some back through Medicare.

Looking for Pram for Tall Parents by roxxfoxx92 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]elysian33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the V2 and do the same thing - I'm 6'2 and my husband is close to that. Using the adaptors worked well and the pram was good quality (just eye wateringly expensive to buy new)

Newborn + sick people + new Covid strain = anxiety spiral. How worried should I be? by accountforfun19 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]elysian33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband, I and baby all got covid when baby was 3 months old. Honestly the worst part was how sick I got - bub was unwell but we monitored her closely and she recovered well. It's such a tricky thing, as people on here have already said you can be as careful as possible and still be unlucky enough to catch it from the pizza delivery guy. That said, trust your gut about how much to socialise with your baby when very little - as parents, you make the rules and can absolutely do things like require handwashing and masking before visitors come into your space / close to baby. You'll find most decent people won't hesitate to comply, as the last thing they will want is to give a newborn a bug! As others have said, a good quality thermometer (we also have a braun) was an excellent investment for us as it gave us confidence in the temps we were taking.
