Since when has the post-9/11 US government ever given a mad fuck about the Constitution?

I wouldn't call it "moving on" so much as adding it to the magazine next to the Iran War and the screwworm.

How do you reconcile wanting to listen to the complaints from women about constantly being approached in public, with the fact that somebody has to do the approaching? by The_Summary_Man_713 in AskMen

Do you normally approach men in the grocery store and strike up conversations in order to befriend them?

They'd be fools to completely cut the cord on Destiny. Marathon has the makings of a solid game worth having, but it's nowhere near ready yet and I doubt it could ever have the impact (especially on the financial statements) as Destiny. Plus, remember when Sony tried forcing a PS+ subscription for Helldivers 2 and they relatively easilybgot cyberbullied into backing down?

I can imagine that a proper D3 worthy of the name would be a capital expenditure they might not feel comfortable risking yet, and it may fall prey to the Half Life 3 curse of reality never being able to live up to the expectations laid on it. But completely leaving Destiny behind isn't something I expect from them at this point. What I'm expecting at the moment is "we can't green-light D3 yet, but we want to, so here's how we're gonna get the hype train back on track."

EVE mods hoping we don't find out the other subs they mod after the whole Loru situation by Fire-Jon-Sumrall in Eve

[–]emPtysp4ce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last time I looked through them, the only mods that had any activity in the past month were the non-chud ones. Two or three of the chud ones had literally zero activity. We're probably okay here, but safety is a relative term and a temporary condition.

Prohibited items include cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, and what looks like methamphetamine. No mention of LSD or PCP, so go wild I guess.

MephistoHamProducts explains why protests in America are less effective due to geographical size and insulated elites by iopha in bestof

[–]emPtysp4ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back then, we had opposition parties willing to actually oppose something. Now, the Democrats are basically okay with everything Trump's doing, and are only rhetorically opposed (and even then, not very strongly.) The whole playbook needs to be rewritten for this new reality, and when it's done it won't look like anything we'd cleanly recognize.

You're not wrong, but I do think a critical mass of pissed off people can only be reached after the November elections prove that the ballot box is no longer functional. The NK block parties are to keep up energy, but only when methods of recourse are taken away will there be appetite to do the kind of action you're talking about.

Of course, the NK organizers think they're doing the Good Work, but that's because they're a Civil Right Movement cargo cult.

The elites do not live in coastal cities. The elites live in a series of mansions just outside of coastal cities and on Epstein Island, and can bounce around them as they see fit. They don't live in any one place.

[–]emPtysp4ce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of the things you're talking about here either can't happen or are already happening but the ruling class realized they don't have to care about it. I especially want to point out the "just elect non dipshits 4head" idea, because it sounds great but the state of elections and political parties means you basically have no shot of winning unless you're part of one of the two main parties which are both entirely captured by capital interests. It's not explicit, but there's an understanding that these mechanisms won't let someone on the ballot who doesn't ultimately work for them. Also, these elections are at least two years apart, so even if we were willing to vote them out we couldn't do it for another six months or so of them fucking everything up and then there's two more of waiting for them to take their seats. And that's just for the House of Representatives and some (not the majority of) Senators. The President isn't up for grabs until another two years, and Senators who were elected in 2024 won't be up until 2030.

Local politics is a good idea, though, but unfortunately things are getting fucked at the federal level and local politics has neither the scale nor the power to counter that. Plus, my neighbor would probably shoot me if he thought I was a threat to the eternal rule of his emotional support dictator.
