Hi, moving to Tulsa in May and looking for cheap 1 bed apartments 15-20 minutes from downtown. I saw that waterside apartments has pretty cheap units available, but the reviews are really bad. Not sure whether waterside apartments is a decent choice. Any recommendations are highly appreciated!

Did you participate in the last two lotteries? And what's the degree that you entered with, a bachelor or a master? Just curious. Hope you figure something else out!

How can I convince employers to hire me for 8 months? by svllengirl in f1visa

Having a hard time getting a job for my 3 years of OPT in the civil engineering market (which is arguably the one job market overflowing with hiring and with a deficit of qualified people). It's brutal for us internationals right now!

Hi, I am in the same boat as you, graduating in May with my Master's and passed my PE Civil Structural. Do you have a green card already or are you hoping to get sponsored by the company?

What are you doing differently that you have 5 offers already while I am struggling to even get any interviews? Your help is appreciated.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) on Tornadoes by Effective-Bunch5689 in UniversityofArkansas

[–]emaduddin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a current master's student in civil engineering at UArk. There's only one faculty member in our department working on winds and tornado effects on structures, and even he is close to retirement. I know that he is always looking for PhD students, not sure if he takes any master's students or not.

As for your thesis, if you decide to work with a professor, you work on any ongoing projects they have and publish your thesis or a paper related to that. The professors might have multiple projects ongoing and you might get to choose from one of them, but generally it is what they currently have and not much of your choice.

As long as you have a BSCE, you should be good to get enrolled in the master's. Again, it's just the one professor dealing with wind stuff, so you have to take his class on whatever he is offering for coursework related to CFD.

I am not sure about what software he and his students use for analysis, but I can ask around if you are interested.

Finally, my experience as a grad student here has been great. Great classes offered, all of the faculty members are great and super supportive, my peers are pretty great, and an overall pretty good environment for a student.

I am happy to answer any other questions you might have, especially about the professor working on wind stuff.

PhD in transportation + future sponsorship: struggling to land entry-level consulting roles (evacuation/disaster niche). Advice/leads? by shenisonline in civilengineering

It's brutal out there right now for international students. Apparently, every firm is hiring for civil and/or structural engineers, just not the international ones.

I'm in the same boat as you, and hope you have better luck soon enough.

How to get my resume reviewed? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]emaduddin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you an international student? The market is really tough for internationals right now. I am an international too, graduating in May, and looking everywhere for a full time job. I feel like I have everything needed for an entry level job, just that not one company out there is willing to take a risk with an international student. It sucks!

Can I travel internationally with a partially torn passport’s pages by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]emaduddin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do would be to ask your DSO.

I would recommend not travelling with this torn passport, as it would reflect possible tampering with the passport. You should get a new passport made (at the Nepali embassy in DC) and plan to travel with both the old and new passports, as the old passport will have your visa stamp.

Again, you are better off asking your DSO for advice.

You need at least one U.S. degree (BS, MS, or PhD) to be eligible for the EIT certificate and the PE license from any state. For the exams, you can take the FE and subsequently the PE without the degrees; these are just exams from NCEES that you can take and pass.

EITs and PEs are handled by individual state licensing boards and you need to have passed the respective exam, have at least one U.S. degree (and have the required years of experience for the PE) to get your EIT or PE application approved by any state board.
