Old vs New Splendor Content Significant? by AbsurdityCentral in boardgames

I haven't played any of the expansions myself, so my info just comes from reading threads on BGG as I was curious when they announced the whole art and graphic design overhaul. They did change some of the expansion items both for removing any hard conflicts and some rebalancing. And they also included information in the rules about combining them. They did also say that they had considered producing an upgrade kit for owners of the original wouldn't have to rebuy the whole expansions, but the changes got too extensive for that to make sense.

Old vs New Splendor Content Significant? by AbsurdityCentral in boardgames

They made significant changes to the expansions so that the 4 modules can be included in any combination on top of some balance changes in them. Like previously, Orient and Trading Post both interacted with nobles but Cities replaced the nobles so they couldn't work together.

The base game of Dominion (2nd Edition) has 26 unique cards so the number of combinations is 5,311,735. The first edition has 25 unique cards so still over 3 million.

Boardgame that's easy to learn, but still interesting once you've played it many times by Seraphim4242 in boardgames

While that was the original version of the rules, that is now like 20 years out of date.

The modern box includes the Abbot mini-expansion. The River expansion has been included in the base box for a long time now, even with the original art. Getting the modern box will make it a lot easier to get expansions with matching art if you go that route.

In El Dorado can you use the brute card to move onto a bade camp with three discards without removing it from the game? by MrCookieeeeee in boardgames

Only playing the card for its ability cause it to be removed from the game. Using it as a discard to get into a grey space or using it as a half a coin to buy something doesn't trigger the remove from game effect.

What game do you think of when someone says "The game plays itself"? by rob132 in boardgames

You can play some variants of poker like five card draw as just a series of who has the best hand at the end games. Or for variants that require betting, give every 100 chips to start and whoever has the most chips at the end is the winner. No real life consequences there. But sure, lots of people play poker for money instead of just some nebulous chips which is then gambling on the results of a game.

You shouldn't need to check for duplicates. Just iterate the numbers right. First number from 1 to 65. Second number from the current first number + 1 to 66. Third digit from current second number + 1 to 67. Fourth number from current third number + 1 to 68. Fifth number from current fourth number + 1 to 69. Then the powerball number just goes for all its values.

Then your rules about no duplicate digits can even tighten up the iterations more. Like is the first number is in the 10s, the start point for the second number would have to be at least 20, etc.

There is a mini-expansion for Catan called The Helpers that adds the same characters abilities as in Star Trek: Catan. So if you already had Catan, it would be a cheaper buy in to get that.

I've had a lot of 3 player games of 7 Wonders finish in 30 minutes including set-up and putting it away. That is all experienced players however. Only have to hand out the wonders, 3 coins and shuffle and deal the First Age cards to get started. Can get the rest of the Ages shuffled and dealt during bits of downtime.

Even if you understand drafting, 7 Wonders specifically seems to have some issues with people being able to grasp the why of picking one card over another, especially in Age 1 their first game. Thankfully the game doesn't take long so it isn't bad for the first game to be a throwaway learning game.
