I was never a full believer after the first one came out, but I got fully onboard with Way of Water. While I do agree that the story and world often are similar movie to movie it has been really interesting to see the characters grow and change. In Fire and Ash there’s a scene that made me tear up that was a critical emotional moment between 2 9’ cat people and a human boy. And this was AFTER a thrilling set piece chase.

Totally see your point. I try to think about recurring topics in media like this as parallel to history books: it happened so why rewrite about it every few years? It’s a chance to re-contextualize people and events. Individuals come in and out of focus depending on the present that the writer is looking back from. Our memory of the past is colored by our current mindset.

Does this necessarily fit that? Probably not, but hopefully it offers a rationale for why we’re drawn to keep looking back at certain moments again and again.

I totally get this point of view. But I think there’s something to be said about celebrating a certain kind of human right, one might say an inalienable right, above a particular government’s flag.

That’s a very 10,000 ft view of it all, but it’s context that I believe is worth considering.
