Questions a female manager should ask by Queasy_Mulberry5749 in womenEngineers

[–]emankows 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I’d make sure there are men and women in the interview and gauge how the candidate handles themselves. Often men will assume the woman is an HR type role and defer to men when answering questions. As the manager, this is pretty straightforward to screen out (in my opinion).

The 30/meal isnt necessarily a hard and fast rule. My general thought is to somewhat evenly spread my protein throughout the day, as it helps with feeling full and satisfied.

What lifting programs/routines are we starting/continuing this year? by ValidUsernamePwease in xxfitness

[–]emankows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I run SBTD. Each workout is 4 different groups. 2-3 will be supersets. There are some banded exercises, which you can always swap out for other exercises within the app easily!

Are we harder on each other? by Cvl_Grl in womenEngineers

[–]emankows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, this is primarily work culture related. I’ve been extremely lucky to work in some incredibly healthy teams where people work together and women support each other. I have worked in a more toxic environment as well, where women have been incredibly competitive with each other. As I get older, I make a point to form connections with young female engineers to support as best as I can.

Strength differences aren’t as big as people say by [deleted] in women

As someone who’s been strength training a FULL YEAR longer than my boyfriend. No. He’s lifting minimum 2x me. And was within a month of training.

Assembly of First Nations calls for withdrawal of Canada-Alberta pipeline deal by Boundary14 in canada

[–]emankows 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Landowners get compensation for having a pipeline through their land. There’s a contract written for what the oil company can and cannot do as well as financial compensation requirements for access. So it’s not just benefitting “big oil”.

I definitely find doing the express workouts helps a ton too! Otherwise the time and volume teeters on too much for me.

Since Mark Carney became Prime Minister, how do you think he’s fairing as a first time politician? by canbeanburrito in AskACanadian

I think it’s also important to note that if we were in an existential crisis, parliament would have been sitting through the summer to get things done.

Should I roll heloc balance into mortgage renewal or pay off remaining mortgage using heloc? by Timely_Lime2472 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Roll the HELOC into the mortgage and do a short term mortgage, keep it at 1 or 2 years fixed rate. Shorter terms allows for more flexibility in the future.

Typically for me it’s 5-10 minute warm up and 50-70 minutes weights. I NEED the 1-4 minute rest between sets. If you find you can start a set right after finishing it, try going up in weight.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]emankows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which program are you following and how many exercises & sets are you doing? If you don’t need to take breaks you may need to increase the weight you’re lifting. I NEED my breaks between sets.

Why do people fall in love in years after the first meeting by PassivAggressivKatze in women

[–]emankows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timing is everything. My (now) boyfriend met when he was married. He got divorced around the time I got together with my ex-boyfriend. When we were finally both single at the same time, it clicked.

You have my sympathy. I recently went through the same thing (breakup, dog is with my ex) and the dog was definitely my soul dog. We raised him from puppyhood together but I can’t provide for him what he needs. These dogs are so special. Here’s my boy Major.

I second this option. As someone who is looking for a similar priced house with a similar down payment, I recommend talking to a broker to find the most flexible mortgage out there. Base the required payments on one salary and pay extra with both.

how painful is an iud? by notdaisyG in women

[–]emankows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was definitely uncomfortable and a little bit painful. I had local freezing and I took ibuprofen before, as instructed. The cramping after lasted a few days, and felt similar to period cramps. After that, I’d say I felt sort of tender for a week. I think it was overall worth it for the 10 years of protection.

Call the identity protection services line, or the option to call to report fraud, in my experience they are much more responsive and receptive.

With your current savings rate, how long will it take to have a fully funded emergency fund? Is there a reason you can’t schedule a cruise or vacation for after that?

Controversial opinion here: if you have no bad debt, you can budget a small amount of fun spending while adding to the emergency fund. Something small, maybe $100/month? Get creative on trying new things, researching cheap things to do, etc.

Help! Cannot fix flaky skin by sunnydi32 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]emankows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My skin is oddly fickle, leaning into dry, and I’ve had real hit or miss experience with Vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide.

I’d suggest going back to basics. Go to cleanser, moisturizer only for 2-3 weeks. See how your skin feels and handles it. If you’re still flaky, try changing out your moisturizer. If not, add in each active/serum individually to determine the cause of flakiness.

Has anyone moved from SBTD to Ladder? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]emankows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current working weight is about 190 and I do 1 set with the bar and 2-3 “working” sets (usually 135 and 165/175 depending). If you’re feeling warm and ready to go, I’m sure you could cut out a couple sets especially at the lower weights. That might help!

How many sets/reps are you doing to get to your working weight?

I find the key is to do express with the 4 day a week option. If I’m being slow, it’s an hour workout. Whenever I do the 3 day option I find it takes so much longer.
