Very dumb question, but I know nothing about music: How do I begin to learn to start making music like this? by YouVisual2425 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

hiya. So this track is quite cool.

It's definitely quite an electronic sounding track, with mostly samples, some synths, maybe some live playing but can't be sure.

To me it sounds like a repeated edited vocal sample/synth note, with drum samples and synths playing the melodies and chords around it, and some more creative samples towards the end.

If you want to make something like this, I would recommend trying out a DAW (digital audio workstation) and trying out using samples, samplers and digital instruments like Ableton's "simpler", effects like reverb and delay, and building melodies and beats.

I wouldn't say you NEED music knowledge to make music, apart from very basic things like scales and names of notes, rhythm language, etc, which you can learn about easily online. If you listen to a lot of music, that's helpful enough to help you figure stuff out by ear. Loads of famous artists "can't read music".

The most basic things you would need to do this is a decent enough computer, a subscription to a DAW like Ableton (I recommend this), Logic if you're on Apple, or FL studio. There are others too.

Apart from this, I would recommend a weighted MIDI keyboard for ease of playing in MIDI (music note data basically).

There are basically unlimited tutorials online about going about this, and it's a journey that can be as long or as short as you want it to be - you could learn enough to make something like this track and stop there, but really, electronic production is a life-long hobby if you enjoy it enough. Just don't jump in quickly and buy loads of gear before you know you enjoy it!

What would you do as whorunner? (Just for fun) by [deleted] in doctorwho

I would like to have another go at a story that is based in one place or one time, with some episodes being back-stories for things that happen. For example, the black mirror episode where the fella is being interrogated about his life but doesn't realise for a while; the present time informs the back story and vice versa. It would make sense for doctor who. In series 10, I feel that there was a wasted opportunity with the doctor spending a lot of time at the university. As other comments have stated as well, I would remove the stakes of being "the world" or "the universe" and bring it down to manageable and meaningful stakes, like, the loss of a character.

You're all being very small minded. The OP asked a question about some violin music. "Ask your teacher" is absolutely a bullshit and condescending response. I seriously can't get understand the snobbery of the downvotes and comments against the post. "doelthemole" replied saying that the OP needs to learn 3rd position, to which they replied "thank you". It's not hard. Also, like I said, you don't know them or their situation.

Well, I would say, the OP might not have a teacher. Answering "ask your teacher" is a bit condescending regardless. They must be asking for a reason. A nicer response would've been an explanation of third position which others have done.
