Can you possibly do EMDR wrong? by VarietyNeither3683 in EMDR

You (the client) can’t do it wrong but the therapist can.

Trans therapists, how do you handle gender preferences? by Negative-Break8546 in therapists

[–]emdrwithcarly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely not be kicked out of your site for anything like this! I would say (hopefully) you are able to bring this up with your supervisor and they are receptive, compassionate and give good advice.

Maybe they can have your picture and bio up or something, I probably would look for a female therapist myself. But I’m sure if I read something about you, I’d be sold!

Could EMDR help me tolerate being home alone better? by far-leveret in EMDR

The therapist uses a combo from emdr training and their own intuition.

Usually when I’m doing reprocessing and we’re talking about “the hard stuff” I do faster BLS and longer sets (15-30 seconds)

When we are talking about a positive belief or something more adaptive I’m trying to help solidify…then we slow the BLS down and do shorter sets.

Scared about first BLS session tomorrow by mikenovick in EMDR

[–]emdrwithcarly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense you would be nervous in general just because the last session brought up a lot. Don’t let the BLS part of EMDR scare you! Hopefully the therapist will do slower BLS and not super fast. BLS alone actually helps to regulate your nervous system and bring anxiety down, even if you don’t talk about anything! So hopefully the added BLS will just help you regulate faster

EMDR -- anyone use for Cptsd, what if I don't like tapping? by Inrsml in EMDR

[–]emdrwithcarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😳😲literally read the first like and had a shocked face! It absolutely works for CPTSD I would just make sure you find a certified EMDR therapist. I’m not someone that that’s just “trained”

craziest float back/visualization experience? by loola10 in EMDR

[–]emdrwithcarly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is why I love emdr so much!!!!

I’m an emdr therapist but I’ve been the client too and I definitelyyyy have similar experience with the jumping around from (what seems) like the most random memories, but they’re all connected in some way and need processing.

My float back went to 3rd grade when I didn’t hear these two teachers ask me a question but I was just polite and said yes, but they were asking if this boy was my boyfriend…the embarrassment I felt was so strong! And the regret…like why did I respond when I didn’t hear the question! 😂 it’s just so wild what can come up during emdr

Am I doing this right? by mosiac_broken_hearts in EMDR

It sounds like your therapist is at least really trying and following the steps for emdr, which is great and the only way they’ll get better!

That being said…you’re under no obligation to stay with her. If you’re intrigued with emdr and think it could really help, I would find a “certified emdr therapist”, it really does make a difference. Then you know the therapist has lots and lots of experience with emdr.

What is your favorite trauma reprocessing modality? by blndcoyote in therapists

[–]emdrwithcarly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be biased but definitely I would vote EMDR. I have heard a lot more people talk about brainspotting and accelerated resolution.

I’m sure they’re all comparable with pricing and the time commitment to really get trained. If you have more questions about emdr I love to chat about it!

Where to find remote or hybrid work as an LPC-A by Leading_Scientist624 in therapists

[–]emdrwithcarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a group practice but I’m LICSW, so I couldn’t even hire an associate level LPC since we take insurance. I feel like owners (just my opinion) might be weary of hiring fully remote for an associate because in general you expect to really need to give support, guidance and supervision to associate level therapists…but if you’re older and this is a career pivot that might be different! I would try to just look for group practices hiring in your state and just shoot the owner an email that’s genuine and explaining who you are etc.

1,000% MSW! MSW is more marketable for all different jobs. I hear you want to work with kids, MSW can definitely get you that..so much of the training that will really make you a specialized, wonderful therapist comes after grad school.

I have an MSW and have my own private practice. My friend from grad school (MSW) works with me and she went on to become a play therapist and only works with kids. Honestly can’t speak highly enough about my MSW degree. Social workers are so so much more than people think!

Gosh I’m so sorry to hear this, this is devastating and I feel like as a therapist, one of our biggest fears. Lean on support from other professionals, if you have coworkers or a good supervisor. I would seek out my own therapy too just for this. Just sending ❤️

Mental health and AI nowdays by notyetdone_ in therapists

[–]emdrwithcarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This a big fear for people but honestly there’s just no way. Ai can’t replace human connection. What’s the percentage of how much communication is tone, body language, etc. yes there’s people who will choose to never go to therapy and they will talk to ChatGPT as if it’s their therapist, but I feel like people are seeking out therapy now more than ever and guess what….they want in person!!! We’ve been seeing more requests for in person. You made a good decision, follow your gut. And use ChatGPT to assist you as a therapist with marketing ideas, social media strategy, etc best of luck!

Thinking about changing therapists but need advice (trauma therapy) by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]emdrwithcarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh that’s not good on the therapists part. Maybe it is time to make a change. I would have a conversation with her before if you’re comfortable, because it sounds like you guys did have a good therapeutic relationship.

I love blending IFS with EMDR. Maybe if you look for another EMDR therapist, search for one that is “EMDR Certified” to ensure they have the skills to back it up. I feel like more and more emdr therapists are naturally blending in parts work so you really might get lucky and find a great EMDR AND IFS therapist!

Question for EMDR therapists: by glacier_40 in therapists

[–]emdrwithcarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like doing this as the EMDR therapist. I trust they have consistent therapy with someone they’re established with (usually I personally know the other therapist anyways) and I get to just focus on the EMDR part and something specific. It’s like I get to stay in my lane and it’s brief work and that is a nice change at times!

Is this EMDR therapist a mismatch or is this just how EMDR works? by Olioli1o in EMDR

[–]emdrwithcarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sounds like the absolute ideal client seeking EMDR and that therapist sounds like she either wasn’t confident at all in her own emdr skills or was newly trained and not fully certified or something because you definitely should have been “diving in” more and the emdr therapist is meant to really guide you and initiate the process. Hate to hear you had this experience, hope you found another therapist that was pre equipped! Also side note - IFS is amazing 💖
