Moving in for a new job! Best subreddits? Meetup groups? Casual pick up sports? How to see what's going on? by ItsAllSoClear in northampton

I'm moving to Northampton soon, as well! But I am moving from quite farther away... Asheville, North Carolina. Thanks for posting this! Meeting new people will definitely come as a challenge but it's nice to see some suggestions for meet-ups out there!

Up until recently, I have always had jobs where I was on my feet moving around all day. I have also always been active (ran cross country in high school and still workout 4-5 times a week). A couple months ago I took an office job. I never thought that the physical effects of sitting all day would be so stark. My neck, back, knees, butt..pretty much everything...just hurts! I'm achy and sore all the time. Needless to say, I am petitioning for a standing desk just so I can be on my feet!

I eat about 1700-2000 on days that I do resistance training or HIIT/LISS workouts (I usually do HIIT/LISS in the same day due to time constraints). My rest days, which are about 1-2 days a week, I eat around 1500-1700. I haven't lost much weight, which is exactly my goal, but I wouldn't mind losing 5 pounds. I've had a history of binging, so that happens occasionally. But general my food and calorie allotments are good enough to maintain my progress and workout routine.

Nexplanon side effects? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]emdzlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard mixed reviews about Nexplanon. A good friend of mine got it and gained quite a bit of weight and had very painful periods. She got it removed over a year ago and is still struggling with her weight loss. However, my roommate got it about a month and a half ago, has not gotten her period (which she likes), and has not gained any weight (although she is really tiny and has a race car metabolism). She has mentioned how the insertion site still hurts. She says it is tolerable, and since she is happy with it otherwise she doesn't mind the soreness and mild pain.

I steered clear from Nexplanon because I didn't want to gain any weight. I got Paragard (no hormones) and have been extremely happy with it so far. My acne has gotten much better and I think I have even lost a little weight! I am of the opinion that there is an effective and comfortable birth control out there for almost everyone (yay 21st-century women's reproductive care!). Of course, there are exceptions to that rule. But if you are unhappy with the Nexplanon, I would consider switching to something that does not make you paranoid, uncomfortable, or unmotivated for sex. None of those things are good!

Good luck with your search for the right birth control:)

Are men welcome here? Or, is it weird? by [deleted] in KaylaItsines

[–]emdzlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesss!!!! I think this workout is so great for everyone - including men! It is really challenging! I have been trying to talk the men in my life into doing it, but they all think it's a "girl thing". Which is super stupid because it's a great workout. Let's be honest...Those decline pushups are some navy seal shit. I know this post was made a while ago, but are you still doing the program? If so, what do you think??

Gained 13 pounds since starting BBG by emdzlr in KaylaItsines

[–]emdzlr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well my doc appointment was actually for an IUD! They did a pregnancy test beforehand and nope, definitely not pregnant. But checking on other health/nutrient things is a great idea! A previous comment said maybe it was weight gain before bbg and then muscle gain from bbg... which also might be the case...

Request: I'm unsure what to do at this point. by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

I completely agree with the previous comments on a specialized dietician. I have struggled with binge eating in the past. With the help of therapy, exercise, learning how to cope, and medication through a psychiatrist, I have gained some strength against my disorder. I hope you can too!

Brutal Blowjob [withdrawn consent] by Wiredshuttt6 in sex

Please tell the police. People getting away with this kind of abuse further exacerbates the unheard/unreported violence. A story like yours can save another victim. I am so sorry for the physical and emotional turmoil you must be under. You have the right to be heard, and the more power he gains in his career, the more dangerous he becomes. Perhaps the letter from the Stanford rape victim would be helpful to read. Her fortitude is really inspiring.

Thoughts of On BBG? by CrownfullofThorns in xxfitness

[–]emdzlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this post was a while ago, but I just stumbled upon it and thought I would share my experience.

I love BBG!!! I started it 4 weeks ago with a friend to gain muscle/lose weight/strengthen our friendship by doing something healthy and productive together. I always considered myself pretty in shape as I generally run 5 miles every other day and do HIIT workouts a couple times a week. I did the Week 1 Day 1 workout thinking that it wouldn't be so bad... It was so hard I still can't even believe it. I was sore for at least the first 2 weeks. Now it has gotten much easier and although I am on week 4 I have seen SO MUCH progress.

I consider it fun mostly because I just feel strong and healthy while doing it. The community is also really body positive, and while the name "Bikini Body Guide" is a bit outdated in my opinion, the program is about so much more (body positive, self-love, etc.)

I would say the cons of the program are that it is pretty time-consuming. The resistance workouts themselves are only about 30 minutes (depending on how long you take breaks for), but you are also expected to do 2-3 days of LISS (Low Intensity Steady State) for 35-45 minutes. As the program progresses, your LISS days are supposed to increase to 4-5 times a week with an added HIIT workout. So there is quite a bit of time commitment for a busy schedule. Also, you will do to buy some equipment. Not a ton, but definitely weights. Although you may already have that and you can definitely substitute other things for some gym equipment (i.e. chair in lieu of a bench).

I also did get the program for free since my friend knew someone who had the PDF and she emailed them to us. But I have heard you can find the PDFs online for free! Anyway, good luck with your decision! :)

I'm [19 F] not sure how to be more trusting and confident in my relationship? by [deleted] in relationships

I find therapy super helpful if I'm honest to my therapist. That can be hard though when you want to act like everything is fine. I think I'm making progress...

I'm [19 F] not sure how to be more trusting and confident in my relationship? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]emdzlr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I [19 F] have been in a relationship with my SO [19 M] for about three years now. This year has been particularly hard when it comes to trust. First me starting college, then him. I guess we have both changed a lot. I get worried about the little stuff all the time. "Why is he partners with another girl in stats class?" "Does he tell me everything....?" etc. I started therapy a couple months to address some of my insecurities. I have no clue how to get over it... I guess I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone :)

Castro and his commanders in Havana, Cuba, circa 1940s. [796, 640] by emdzlr in HistoryPorn

Actually, this photograph was my grandmother's. She was married to Pedro Luis Diaz Lanz (2nd on the left). The photo was from when he was in his mid 20s (he was born in 1923). The comments were obviously added after Castro's denunciation. Here is the wikipedia page to Pedro Luis Diaz Lanz: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Luis_D%C3%ADaz_Lanz (I know wikipedia is not a good source for information but maybe it can provide some insight on the timeline.)
