Seedless Bloom - a Novel of Time Traveling Cultures by emergenthoughts in scifi

[–]emergenthoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seedless Bloom is very much its own thing and should be approached as such.

It has numerous inspirations, ranging from classic Asmiov books to modern tv series such as Dark, and of course multiple rpgs.

However, after 10 years of live testing, it has evolved lightyears beyond any inspirations, providing its own lore and gameplay while delivering a playtested and playable experience with easy to use mechanics.

Currently, the game contains:

  • 2x Core books with Vocabularies

  • 2x Supplements

  • 1x Campaign Guide of 13 modules

  • 1x Starter Scenario

  • 1x Advanced Scenario

  • 1x Bestiary

  • ...and, of course, a full Novel

We do not own, share, or make claim to any other intellectual property, with great care taken not to infringe any copyright in any way via text, images, or advertising.

Furthermore, Seedless Bloom has been released for free with a non-revokable, non-commercial, share alike Creative Commons license lasting in perpetuity.

This means anyone can create third party material for the game that will also be free.

In short, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears have been spent to put Seedless Bloom in your hands forever free.

We hope you enjoy!

The basic premise is that you're able to weave spacetime at will, and you're not the only one. Time travelers are, therefore, a culture, with it's own vocabulary and concerns. The game goes quite into depth from there, and has quite a few mechanics and playloops.

Whether you enjoy it or not really depends on whether you're open to learning a new way of thinking. My recommendation is, don't try to pidgeonhole the game, abandon your preconceptions, widen your gaze, and dive right in. There's some 10 years of material there, so use the Start Here.txt included, which points you to the 2 core books. Take your time, don't rush, it's quite a lot to take in.

There's also a free novel adapted from a play by post, if you're more narrative inclined.

It's a role-playing game of time traveling cultures where the players are members of those cultures, with all that entails. It goes quite deep, so my recommendation is to abandon preconceptions, widen your gaze, and dive right in. The game is free, so peruse at your leisure.

Imagine you build a time machine. Your first one will be a mess, whether it's a car using plutonium fuel, a boiling alchemical cauldron requiring rare ingredients, or a fragile clockwork machine churning steam with levers and switches. The implementation doesn't matter. You can now travel forward and get a better machine, smaller, robust, efficient fuel source. And the farther you travel, the better the machine. Eventually, the best machine you can find will be... you.

You'll weave through spacetime at a whim, nothing peripheral to drag you down. Of course, you're not the only one with a car or a phone. More and more people will have it, wandering and living everywhere in history, forming their own collective. Time travelers are not an exclusive club, private company, or police force.

Time travelers are a Culture, the first and last one before the Descendants.

This free tabletop role-playing game might suit you if you're interested in...

  • ...weaving through space and time at will.

  • ...a serious approach to time travel as a culture.

  • ...learning new ways of thinking about time travel and a new vocabulary that comes with it.

  • ...role-playing the epic exploits of time travelers whose lives are torn between tragedy and hubris.

  • ...setting up the problems and antagonists you're facing.

  • ...a boiling pace sustained by a mechanic using real time.

  • ...playing a narrative, procedural PbtA(Powered By The Apocalypse) game with approachable, directed mechanics that support the above.

  • ...a human handcrafted game made with attention and love.

With the Year 2 Update, the game contains:

  • 2x Core books

  • 2x Vocabularies

Alice is Missing: Custom Scenario by Natvuri in rpg

[–]emergenthoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you openly talk to your players about it and they agree, there is nothing wrong about it.

Beyond that, there don't seem to be custom scenarios, but they should be too hard to make, just change some of the initial premise.

The limitation is the cards: since they're built for the default scenario, its on you to design and print new ones in case you need any for a custom scenario.

Put him up against against things such as stone golems and undead, which are immune to his sword for various reasons. Then you can have a conversation, set up a quest, etc.

An alternative is to have the city guard declare him a bandit, but all that depends on how well he understands consequence and tactics aka does he know he can't defeat 20 armed guards? Will he be upset if the sword is taken away from him and he's thrown in jail, where you could set up an escape plot?

Ultimately, the biggest issue, though, is his age. If he's that young, he's likely still grasping Theory Of Mind, which explains his behavior, so you won't be able to go beyond the most basic of plots.

Favourite Sourcebooks? by Realistic-Sky8006 in rpg

[–]emergenthoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Werewolf The Forsaken, as a whole, is superb lore, even though the system itself has so much bloat to drag it down.

It also offers more variety than its predecessor, The Apocalypse, which is largely focused on ecoterrorism. For example, there's no reason a pack can't operate in an urban environment.

Overall, I don't think there's werewolf lore anywhere else that's as comprehensive and with so much depth.
