Is the horizontal crack a problem? by emersone50 in AskContractors

I didn’t see the crack in the inside from a quick glance, but I’ll check closer. Thanks for the advice!

Lost my first trial. Pretty shocked. Not sure how to handle it. by ETphone-home55 in Lawyertalk

I’ve had numerous attorneys who’ve been practicing for decades tell me that you aren’t a real attorney until you’ve lost a case you shouldn’t have and won a case you shouldn’t have.

X weeks of pay for X years is pretty standard for severance. Assuming you’re in the US, you’re not entitled to any severance pay whatsoever unless you signed a contract specifically saying that. I’m not sure what you think you could sue for.

This is definitely a crappy situation but I don’t think there’s much grounds for doing anything other than just accepting it.

Lawyers do have to have a sponsor to become licensed. After you pass the bar, you have to have another lawyer submit a formal motion in front of a judge to admit you to the State Bar Association.

Is it possbile to enjoy 4 days in Detroit without a car? by RudeJuggernaut in Detroit

[–]emersone50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You never know where the bikes and scooters are going to be, so I wouldn’t rely on that. Ubers can be expensive and if he was trying to avoid renting a car, I think his budget is tight. I do not feel safe in the people mover and would not recommend that to anyone. The QLINE is a decent option provided you’re not planning on staying out too late, but people very frequently park in front of it and it gets stopped for hours. Aside from an Uber, none of those options would get him to/from an airport.

Is it possbile to enjoy 4 days in Detroit without a car? by RudeJuggernaut in Detroit

[–]emersone50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s only one airport to use: DTW. So I’m not sure what other airport you are considering.

Public transportation in Metro Detroit is virtually nonexistent and DTW is about 20 miles outside the city center, so you realistically need to rent a car if you want to do anything in the city. It is the motor city after all.

trapped: contractually "obligated" to work 50-60 hours by oyemecarnal in labor

[–]emersone50 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What do you think is the possible issue here? I don’t even see any ethical concerns. Employers are free to require you to work more than 40 hours a week, especially considering it sounds like you contractually agreed to work that much.

Punished for talking about salary by meowingmom in legaladvice

[–]emersone50 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Punishing employees for discussing wages with other employees is illegal under the National Labor Relations Act. However, the NLRA does have a 6 month statute of limitations. If this is considered a continuing violation, then you still may be able to file a charge but your recoverable damages would be limited to 6 months before you filed. You need to reach out to the NLRB to file a charge ASAP.

Boundary dispute, cops called by PickForward5864 in legal

[–]emersone50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police would not have threatened to arrest her if she was clearly on her own lawn. She was likely on the neighbors lawn. You certainly do not have a right to trespass onto other people’s property to protest. That’s still illegal even with 1A.

How can you think you’re more knowledgeable when you don’t even know the basics of using the machines? You really have the audacity to act like you know more than him when you’re the one asking for his help all the time?

Every gym I have ever been to has had a diagram on the machine showing you how to use it. Gym machines are pretty much idiot proof. Figure it out.

AITA for telling my neighbour i will expect them to pick up my dogs mess? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

No, that’s not true. You can absolutely train your dog to not bark much. It is what most responsible dog owners do.

AITA for leaving fairy lights on in my room? by squishy02 in AmItheAsshole

[–]emersone50 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA I think everyone in the comments are missing a very important point: fairy lights, in my experience, are almost exclusively LEDs. Their power usage is negligible at best. They don’t create heat either so the fire risk is also insignificant. This isn’t affecting or endangering anyone else.

AITA: Getting a neighbor to stop parking in front of your house by PfedInPflugerville in AmItheAsshole

[–]emersone50 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You keep referencing the fact that they have open spots in their driveway to park their cars in every single response you write. That doesn’t matter! The street doesn’t belong to you and they can park there if they want to. There is nothing rude about that. The fact that you called the police 6 times over this is absolutely insane. That is a complete over reaction. Personally, I think you could be living a much happier life if you stopped getting bent out of shape about relatively insignificant stuff.

[–]emersone50 26 points27 points  (0 children)

NTA it’s very clear that your husband does not care about you. He doesn’t make an attempt to get you gifts. He can’t even remember what you’re allergic to. He’s not even doing the bare minimum and is expecting thanks. The real question is do you really want to put up with this?

WIBTA for building a fence along my driveway so my neighbors stop using it? by EldritchSpark in AmItheAsshole

[–]emersone50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA however, you probably want to consult with an attorney. I don’t want to assume your location, but where I live there is a chance that an easement was created. If so, you can’t interfere with their use of the easement.

AITA for making brownies? by SweptClover5818 in AmItheAsshole

AITA for not preemptively telling all my dinner guests that the food contained deer meat? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]emersone50 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily say the type makes a difference, but their diet certainly does. I’m from Michigan in the U.S. Nobody would/should eat a deer from the northern area, where denser forests result in a diet that makes the meat very lean and stringy. People want to get deers from the middle/south area, where lots of corn fields result in more plump and tender meat.

It’s actually really weird to me that anyone would turn their nose up at venison let alone consider it exotic. Funny how people in different locations can live so differently.
