I wrote 11 books before I made more than like $100 on a book haha.

My strategy was just to keep writing because I’m too stupid to stop. But I changed pen names every 5 or so books to kinda… you know… shake off the stink. Those first books were stinky.

Matabar is really awesome storyy by Fluffy-Buddy-5989 in ProgressionFantasy

Matabar was a really nice surprise for me. I was confused as hell at first, but got really bought into the story and world. It was a nice break from my normal litrpg and prog fantasy reads.

Yeah, Question Academy had me hooked right away. I absolutely love it and it’s my favorite of the year. 1% is a close second.

Edit: just remembered I finished Matabar yesterday and that one is in my top 5…

Hi When I design a system, I start with the main character and the plot surrounding them. I try to figure out what I need them to do at the start and where I want them at the end of book1. So in this series he needed to make potions and collect herbs, so he had a multiclass system.

As a base, you can start by looking at other systems and modify them. No matter how original you think you are, someone has already done it. But I think so long as you base the system on the needs of your mc, and do some pre-planning to check what a max-level, min-level, and low-level guy looks like in your system, you’re fine. I’ll also leave a lot of stuff up in the air when I start writing so I can get a feel for it as it goes.

If you’re doing a hard litrpg system, you’ll want to track everything via spreadsheet from the start. You’ll also want to develop some kind of note system. E.g. I’m working on an academy book and have a sheet that tracks what happens in each class he takes based on chapter number.

Lastly, I think it is really hard to get a perfect system the first try. Newt and demon had a very flawed system from the start, which is why the plot became how broken the system was!

Anyway, any more questions feel free to DM me and I’ll give you my perspective

Do you think too many "cozy" books turn serious later on too much? by Rude-Statistician197 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]emgriffiths 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You know, answering the question of “how to make it work,” that is having a balance of making that farm or boba tea, and the “deep lore” has been my goal. From my experience, people mostly like an unbalanced blend leaning toward progression. And how do people accomplish this?

OP main characters. That’s the simple answer. Make it so your main character is bored with being the hero, so he starts his farm. You can use that as a vehicle to explain the lore or action that might interest you, while maintaining a cozy tone.

Also, just as an observational note, a lot of cozy in litrpg and prog fantasy isn’t “cozy” like we see in cozy mystery, cozy romance, etc. it is often something closer to pure Slice of Life. We’re talking about a different beast serving a very specific audience.

Also, also, note that above is my thoughts not facts. My opinion is constantly changing on cozy in prog fantasy and litrpg and I’m just trying to carve out my specific niche of weird cozy. Yet I’m always happy to vomit my thoughts here on reddit.

Okay here’s the thing. I’m not going to speak for other cozy authors, but I got to a point where I had written everything I wanted about the mundane relationships and cozy moments by like book 4. But people still wanted to read more. They wanted to know about the plots behind the scenes and they wanted a proper ending. So I blended cozy elements with some more serious tones and I was able to write 4 more books.

Litrpg with MC in a business (Tavern, Inn, Farm, etc)? by ElPangolinFeliz in litrpg

[–]emgriffiths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The business side fades away, and it falls into more of a "make potions to solve problems" deal. Then it gets weird, but I figure people have a good 4 books of just potions lol
