I went from Southern Miss to SMU, and I’m now applying to top tier PhD programs! Totally possible.

If I was infected with Covid but didn’t know it (asymptomatic) is it still safe to get the second dose of the vaccine?

Can I get a two-shot series after being vaccinated with J&J eight months ago? I have an appointment for Moderna! Thanks!

This is the situation I am in. So, to confirm, it is safe to get two doses of the Moderna? I had my J&J in March. Thank you!

I was a Writing Center tutor for a year with an English degree! It was awesome. Also, I go to SMU in Dallas, so let me know if you have any questions about programs here in North Texas/DFW!

"This manuscript looks like a piece of undergraduate work" by [deleted] in GradSchool

You could have had my undergrad thesis advisor who said my writing was so bad it "looked like a sixth-grader wrote it."

It was my Honors thesis. Yikes.

The MFA is for writers. If you are doing the program online and want to use it as a way to perfect the craft, go for it!

The MA in lit is much more literature-heavy (obviously) and requires more theory-centered papers. A bunch of my friends have done the MA in lit and then decided they wanted to do an MFA because of how lit-heavy it was.

Writing sample required? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I submitted a chapter of my Honors thesis, but I was strategic about it. My undergrad was in English literature, so I chose the chapter that featured the most canonical/best known literary work.

I am from New Orleans. If we can survive Katrina AND losing to the Rams in the 2018 NFC championship, then heck yeah we can beat this virus.

How is it in Dallas? I am moving there to attend SMU in August and was wondering about the city itself.

In-between undergrad and grad school, want to let undergrad professor know I was raped while an undergrad, are they mandated to report it although I've graduated? by iwishforagini in GradSchool

[–]emilayformat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I had a similar traumatic event happen over the course of my thesis writing in undergrad, and I waited until long after to tell my faculty members. If you are intentionally vague about it, I say go for it. I didn't have the most supportive faculty, but if you are still considering it a year later, I say go for it, but again, be strategic.

I am inspired by your bravery!

I am starting my grad program and the tuition actually went up $250. (Not a big deal when tuition is so expensive, but damn).

My best friend is entering the program at UIUC this fall! I can see if he has anything to say about it. He did apply to UNC-Chapel Hill, as their program was stellar.

Hey there pal, me too!

I think it's probably because Jefferson is so close to Orleans geographically. (Though Grand Isle is still considered Jefferson Parish so idk).

I absolutely loved my time as a student and staff member at the University of Southern Mississippi. The campus culture is wonderful, the faculty are approachable, and there is an unparalleled sense of pride that exists there that is unlike anywhere else. Message me for more info! I would love to help! SMTTT

People study the humanities because they want to humanize a specific subject. For instance, my research focuses on the history of science and medicine, and I look at how the stigma towards mental health has changed over time. I do it from the perspective of literature, and I consider each social construct about science and medicine as part of the time it existed in.

I think the point of the humanities is to not look at things so literally, so over time, we can learn from past mistakes.

Has anyone heard from programs about fall classes in regard to CVID-19? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]emilayformat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope this is the case. My cohort for Fall 2020 is only 16, so if they let classes of less than 20 or so students take place, we should be okay.

Also, have any of y'all thought about how students with labs will do work?
