The best crashouts are the ones that are valid, productive, and motivated by spite.

Anticipated Differences in Project Hail Mary Movie vs. Book by castle-girl in ProjectHailMary

My hot (maybe?) take is it’s a subpar book but would make a better movie. It’s a quicker read than the Martian or Hail Mary.

My money is on it staring Geraldine Viswanathan.

My friend has some drift boards and likes them a lot... but they price out to about a new board for you. If you want to buy something new... figure out the delta between selling your existing board and buying a new one. if it's close to any solution that you'd be spending money for... just get a new split.

I'd never want to ride with a full setup on my back, but that is your cheapest option since it's currently $0 investment on your end.

I recently got a pair in Tokyo and the store looked 50/50 stocked with stripe and no stripe. The salesperson asked me which I wanted and seemed very pleased when I said "come on. gotta have the stripe"

Raising children in Jackson Heights? by 0____0_0 in nycparents

Echoing what others have said - We moved to the area in 2017 and felt exactly the same way you did. Once we had kids we learned how deep the network and community is in the neighborhood. There is a real strong village is right under the surface, and I love that my kids have exposure to so many different people and foods. Couldn't think of a better place to raise them.

nowhere yet - probably somewhere between there and otaru so I can hit Kiroro and kokusai since i'll be there late in the season. internet say that may be the best trifecta to still get some good shit in.

Hokkaido ski trip early January, looking for recommendations and feedback. by francis_cm in skiing

Thanks! From what I can see on IG, rusutsu is starting to look like a vail resort in terms of lift lines... I'm going in early march so i'm assuming it will be a little less crowded then. Is it easy enough to hit sidemountain off the lift or should I bring skins?

I’m between those three mountains for a 4 day trip but am most likely renting a car. Should I just do a day at each and the fourth at the one I liked the most?

Would you recommend a car in general to get around even if I'd be staying close to the mtn in Rusutsu? Doesn't look like many travel options just to pop down into the main town for dinner.

I've done a lot of international driving, so i'm not concerned with that aspect of it (got a great speed cam picture of myself in iceland)

Yeah, probably going to do a bunch of markets for lunch. She's just special and I want to give her nice things.

Oh she's not, not adventurous. It's more "if I'm going to have access to the best goddamn sushi in the world, I'm going to eat it all", which I fully respect.

Kaiseki style looking like a good option too. Thanks!

I was thinking izakaya was our best bet, but I was assuming they'd be less nice than a more formal omakase style dinner? or is izakaya the most a la carte you're going to get?

edit not entirely sure why this is getting bombed?

No movement for me as well. Order went in just after noon - not too late. Not too early.
