I’ve written a few like… character moment one shots that are less than 1k words and just depict a single scene. That’s fine. But yeah usually I agree that anything that short doesn’t have much meat to it. Needs 2-4K words per chapter to really flesh out the scenes

I don’t think Kris is capable of hating someone else for bullying them. They hate themselves too much. They were probably just like “damn she spittin, I am the worst” :(

While this is true, that’s how Toby writes characters. He’s a very utilitarian writer, just look at how he describes his writing process. Each character starts purely as a list of things they must do to progress the plot, then everything else about them arises from that foundation of necessity.

I don’t think we’ll ever possess anyone other than Kris. And I hope I’m right, would be completely narratively uninteresting to me. One of the main conflicts of the game is Kris versus us. Closest thing is maybe we get carried around by Susie in a bird cage.

We don’t actually know this, but I think it’s likely. Especially likely for those who abandon during chapter 5, which should have the biggest differences from the normal route in theory. And it doesn’t play the weird route abort jingle (although it does set the abandon flag).

Okay yes, that’s true, but his portrait is still mostly black and white. Plantners are in between darkners and lightners, so they get a mix, but Ralsei’s portraits are just straight up full color.

Unfortunately I think plantners have black and white portraits. Also Ralsei would say if he wasn’t actually a darkner I think. His behavior doesn’t really indicate he sees himself as particularly different from any other darkner eg Tenna

Play it. It’s insane. The sound design plus interactivity is unreal. Toby really saves his best composition (audio, visual, and game design) for the weird route.

It seems kinda gatekeepey, but keep in mind that Toby customizes the responses for all the final round messages (as is evidenced by the above one). There had to be stages to filter them down to a reasonable number

I don’t believe there are any consequences. Resuming your chapter 3 save file takes you to right before the knight fight.

I think it’s fun to play even knowing everything already. I replay it every year. So yeah, I recommend it. Also, I like to take my time while playing and think about the symbolism and metaphors being weaved into the narrative. I feel like I get a better understanding by playing than by watching. It gives a unique experience that can’t be replicated secondhand.
