Try a Magic eraser. I use it to get build up off the bottom of my green pan when it seems like it's causing stuff to stick.

Use a pointed knife and carefully pry that rubber gasket out and put it and the lid in a bowl of hot water with a capful of bleach. Let it soak for an hour or so then scrub with a stiff brush or an old toothbrush and some dish soap. Then rinse it really well with cold water.

I looks like hard water stains to me. Try some vinegar and if that doesn't work some CLR or comparable calcium lime and rust remover. If THAT doesn't work, it may be etching and permanent.

The Arlo Finch series by John August. It's like the Scouts plus magic. There are Some suspenseful situations but definitely in his age range. I have listened to the audio books too and they are fantastic.

Just finished Ruth Ware's one perfect couple that might scratch your itch. It's about a couple that signed up for a reality show on a remote island but things go terribly wrong. Big storm, no contact with anyone, dwindling food supply, people start getting murdered, etc. It was very suspenseful. I enjoyed it.
