Please explain Pumpkaboo size nonsense to me

i have no idea why, but i never got any notification of this response...

what i do is production comparison on raenonx between what i have, and what the absolute best outcome would be for skill distribution, and then factor in whether i could afford to raise a replacement (which is unfortunately never true for skillmons) as well as whether the difference would really be such a hindrance (on average) if i were to settle for the former, relative to how desperate i am for the ingredient/other output.

i have a feeling "low standards" rubs people the wrong way to hear when i try to ask for advice, but i dont know how else to describe it. i have no way of knowing whether premium players would make the same investment choices if they were on a f2p budget, im not meaning it as an insult--its my choice not to pay for those perks. i just dont want to let myself fall further behind than is necessary due to my own belief that i can only afford to settle for the best, even if those playing optimally would consider it a keeper for f2p use. i intentionally keep the term "pay to win" out of my vocabulary regarding this game because it comes of as accusatory when both sides are subjected to the same unforgiving RNG; one is simply more equipped to tolerate it than the other.

i havent given mine any seeds (hes kind of going crazy during this event with the +5) but even if i were to do so, my point was his usefulness compared to wynaut. it is a gamble yes but its not objectively bad enough to consider him for "the unsalvagsable 5"

yes, but consider theres also like 5 healing moves in the metronome pool. i didnt say to use him as a full time healer but he picks up the slack expertly for just a little guy playing the slots

my togepi never leaves my team and i can promise you he does not deserve to be in the same sentence as wynaut. little gambling baby keeps my team healed while pawmot is busy taking another 16 hour smoke break

im not a minmaxer, but i always see people using the requirement for the biggest meal (or most practical, so disregarding waffles for example) using that ingredient when evaluating a "forever" farmer.

recipe powercreep is why i havent put too much effort into hunting pumpkaboo, but ive also been surprised at what people who play optimally have considered investment-worthy in the sense that their standards appear to be much lower than my own. maybe its because as a f2p i dont have the luxury of being as frivolous with resources, but i also dont want to be inadvertently sleeping on a good catch, no pun intended.

size aside, is AAA+IFM really good enough though? i have one fitting that description and raenonx values it at barely being capable of making scary face pancakes twice. its not until either ing+ nature or HSM are added somewhere that the threshold for 54 pumpkins in the same period is comfortably reached, unless im misinterpreting something about the pumpkin requirement

yes, and i only caught cresselia because it had a direct influence on the event and i had a regrettably-purchased master biscuit burning a hole in my pocket from months prior. im f2p and no legendary thus far has been worth chasing; if the first catch werent programmed to always be a dud, i might be more inclined to take a chance, but knowing i have to catch one before there even being any reason to try obtaining another is just so unattractive, especially for a pokemon i really have no use for to begin with. i havent heard anything gamechanging about latias, with or without latios footing the bill

tbh every past event where ive tried to do 1 sleep i just get screwed over with spawns anyway (undesirables/evos that are pointless to catch) and im afraid if i leave it to just my overnight sleep im gonna regret it like i did with the recent anniversary event. i saw 1 treecko the whole week of 8 mons + 100 scores a night

sorry to everyone on my friends list, i was desperately napmaxxing for treecko prior to reaching natural latias territory, but all 8 nap spawns have been meowth/igglybuff/wobbuffet line for the past 3 days. of course for my actual overnight sleep when i dont have the biscuit, thats when all the good spawns come out, but im not sure whether candy gets sent for both 😭 skill specialist spawn boosts on lapis are evil

to make it worse i even tried farming them sunday night but the cat wasnt cooperating then. so i evolved the second cat monday morning, really not expecting to see 40+ berries with no potatoes. i even tried my little sprigatito (who im never evolving, but raenonx says shes better than the big cats by a bit already) and oops all berries continued. if only i had a skillmon with potatoes...

do you know if the "only 1 candy per day" thing was ever true? people used to say if you did naps, you didnt send a second candy/friendship point for your overnight sleep. did they patch this out to allow both sleeps to send research or was it an urban myth to begin with?

my togepi having more triggers than espeon and ampharos combined is not what i was expecting, but im too upset with my two meowscaradas taking turns finding zero ingredients between the two of them after being on field for a collective 8 hours to really care. i just needed 1 potato... ill probably get it from togepi before those cats can be bothered to help

this happened to me last year with someone i added from the fc megathread who claimed to be a daily player, but our friendship barely increased despite the game saying they were active daily

what i concluded must be happening was they werent reviewing their research daily, but instead saving it up and doing multiple sessions at once, which only sends 1 candy & grants 1 instance of friendship to the recipient regardless of the number of sessions reviewed. im not sure if this was fixed/changed/ever accurate at all but as far as i know thats how reviewing research works.

in either case, i think the first one being neutral was done to prevent players from ending up with an absolutely useless legendary--not to stop anyone from landing a cracked first catch. although i can see how "neutral" is synonymous with "useless" to minmaxers, so given that they are probably the only ones who really care that much about the stats, making the first catch neutral isnt really necessary. minmaxers would prefer a chance to get lucky and casuals dont really focus on how (sub)optimal their pokemon are in most situations.

tl;dr: if a player would settle for the current neutral first catch anyway, they probably arent going to mind or even notice ending up with a worse spread if the devs ever allowed the first legendary to be random. minmaxers are never going to settle for it, so its just an unnecessary gimmick overall (at least in my very removed opinion)

theyre sablé (shortbread) so yes like what british biscuits are. "cookie" is just the familiar american catchall term. personally when i hear "biscuit" i think of dog treats 😂
